Time To Vote For “Tha Owards”

Tha O Show is proud to present the first annual edition of “Tha Owards” where you, the faithful O-sters, vote on who you think stood out in 2006.

What makes Tha O Show great is our readers. Tha O-sters (in our esteemed opinion) are the smartest and most passionate wrestling and MMA fans on the planet - and now its time for Tha O-sters to make their opinions count.

Each O-ster can vote once in each category. As always, we encourage you to post a comment with your opinions. However, all OFFICIAL votes will be tabulated via e-mail ONLY. Please send your votes for each category to thaoshow_frank@rogers.com or to bigdaddy@thaoshow.com. The deadline for all votes will be 5pm EST on December 30th, 2006.

If you only want to vote for certain categories and not others, that’s totally cool. However, you are only allowed One Vote, Per Category, Per O-ster.

Here are Tha categories for Tha Owards:

Wrestler of Tha Year

When casting your vote, it’s important to consider all the elements that make a great wrestler. This Oward should go to the man who brought it both in the ring and on the microphone. The winner does not necessarily have to have held a title in 2006 but they needed to show they were the most outstanding performer in the world of professional wrestling.

The list of potential winners is totally open as votes can be cast for anyone in any of the major wrestling companies all over the world.

Tag Team of Tha Year

A staple of professional wrestling, this Oward should go the duo that brought respectability to tag team wrestling and also made for excellent matches. 2006 was the hottest period for tag team wrestling in many years, so the potential winners are endless.

Worst Wrestler of Tha Year

This should be a favorite category among many O-sters. Who was horrible in every sense? Who is not worthy of a job in professional wrestling?

Match of Tha Year

In the spirit of Tha O Show, this match should be the one that made you say "O" over and over. Whether it was a match filled with plunder and props or a straight up presentation of wrestling purity, this Oward is open to any professional wrestling match that has taken place in 2006. Remember, this Oward goes to the most outstanding match you saw all year regardless of whether it popped a television rating or scored huge buys on pay-per-view.

Tha Best Talker of Tha Year

Who used the microphone to make you excited about a match? This Oward should go to the person that understands the true art of the promo and not necessarily crack jokes. Who used the gift of the gab to sell an angle, get over as a strong heel or face, or sell pay-per-view? This Oward is open to anyone from professional wrestling and MMA.

MMA Fighter of Tha Year

This, of course, is different from ‘Wrestler of Tha Year’ as this Oward should go to the most dominant MMA fighter in their respective weight class. The criteria for this Oward is solely based on fighting dominance and not necessarily one's ability to cut promos.

We want this to be completely open and not limit Tha O-sters to a list of nominees in each category. Tha winners will be announced January 1st, 2007.

Let the voting begin!

Just an idea...

I think it'd be dope for O-sters to also suggest Owards in other categories...

For example,

Storyline of Tha Year - which angle caught your attention the most or was the most interesting

Rookie of Tha Year - the best wrestler to debut in 2006

Female Superstar of Tha Year - speaks for itself

Might as well get in on the action...

Wrestler of Tha Year - Edge (don't know if the pic on the article influenced anyone, but it seems like he's gonna win - he's already been given the MVP honours by myself on this site)

Tag Team of Tha Year - Paul London & Brian Kendrick (JBL keeps trying to put them over - but he doesn't need to, these guys really are awesome to watch)

Worst Wrestler of Tha Year - John Cena (big surprise coming from me right? I'm voting for him cuz I just don't think he fulfills the role he's supposed to - he has NOT impressed me in his role as champion and only Batista - who was off for most of the year - sucks more as a champion).

Match of Tha Year - I'm going to go ahead and say Chris Benoit VS. William Regal at No Mercy (simply based on in-ring wrestling alone, these guys put on a clinic and it was TOTAL surprise match).

Tha Best Talker of Tha Year - Gotta be JBL. I've written before about how much I enjoy his commentary. He cracks me up at LEAST once a week and is very informative at the same time. I gotta give the devil his due.

MMA Fighter of Tha Year - Georges St.Pierre (Hey I can't only have one Canadian in my votes! - Well, Benoit counts as the second I guess)

How about

The O moment of the year

(the one segment, bump, or event, etc... in wrestling that really made you say O!)

Best gimmick match of the year

Biggest let-down of the year

Team-player oward

(to the underused, wrongly used, overly abused, etc wrestler that put up with it just for the "betterment" of the show)

Wrestler O' tha Year - Edge, theres no denying (Breaks tag team record whilst winning 2 world championships in the same year. Not to mention spearing Lita, I'll give him props for that as well!)

Talker O' tha Year - Foley (for his work with Flair and shoots on ECW)

Tag Team O' tha Year - LAX (dominant in a sea of great tag teams)

Worst Wrestler O' tha Year - The Great Khali (Chop over the head AND injuring cruiserweights, come on Vince!)

Match O' tha Year - Did Angle/Michaels occur this year? I forget so I'll go with Angle/Joe

Rookie O' tha Year - Ric Flai---
I'll go with Lashley. Sure he's yet another unstoppable roided up monster who can't talk (yawn). But unlike other "softspoken" bodybuilders, this kid has an impressive resume, some quickness lacking in other genetic freaks, and the beginnings of some wrestling chops. (No not ric flair chops you morons) Sure, Lesnar he 'aint, but few people get the belt in their first year, and even fewer beat the Big Show to do it. Wait, Ken Kennedy debuted this year didn't he? ...screw all that
MRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. KENNNNNEEEDDDDYYYYYYY!

Storyline O' Tha Year - As temping as the on-going drama between Chavo and Benoit is, I'll have to go with... uh... oh shit there hasnt been that many great storylines have there?

Female Superstar O' Tha Year - Trish Stratus, her career broke the glass ceiling proving once and for all that attractive women can be successful on television. Wait is that what this proved? Apparently Vince thinks so, hence the whole "Amy" debacle. But Trish is more than just a pretty face and perfect body, she is a talented, dedicated, and hard-working performer, perfectly capable in both the face and heel roles. She went out the way I want her, on top!

Under Tha Radar Award - Petey Williams

Breakthrough Star Of Tha Year - Johnny Nitro

Pay-Per-View of Tha Year - Turning Point (im biased cause I saw it from the 8th row!)

Gimmick Match O' Tha Year - I love the International X Cup, but thats more a series of matches than a singular match--- So I'll go with 4 way tag team ladder match (and not for the blood)

Biggest Let-Down O' Tha Year - Flair/Foley (Two legends with personal animosity and wrestling ability to spare duke it out for the first time and Foley gets intentionally disqualified? Come on, after weeks of incredible buildup and awesome shoots. Thought the I Quit Match was much better, some of the momentum was lost and it was still indecisive)

Team-Player Oward - William Regal (as always)

O Moment of the Year - Sabu DDT's Mysterio through a table

MMA Fighter - Chuck Liddell

Overrated Wrestler O Tha Year - So many to choose from: Cena, Umaga, Batista, Lashley, The Great Khali... god I cant pick. Well I'll arbitrarilly pick Umaga.

Biggest return of the year: DX

but that could also go for "Biggest Let-down"

is that TROGDOR in the background of that photo of edge and lita?

Anonymous said...

I wish that was Trogdor. Watching Cena get "burninated" in the background would have been the only thing to make that scene any better.
