Words From Stro: Pena, Maggs, and Luchadores

Ed: The following column was written by The Stro formerly The Maestro in World Championship Wrestling

Hi everybody! Hope you all are enjoying the month of October. The month has started off pretty good for me as I have been busy doing events as well as even grand marshalling the 2007 Fireman's Day parade in Magnolia, North Carolina.

I would like to thank Jerry and everyone of the Magnolia Fire Department for having me for this years parade. Now on with the "Words From Stro".

My thoughts and condolences go out to the family and friends of the recently passed AAA wrestling promoter Antonio Pena. A lot of great talent went through this promotion including yours truly at one time when I was tag team partners with Jake "The Snake" Roberts. Had some classic matches there against Perro Aguayo, Octagon, Canek, Cybernetico, etc.

Speaking of Jake, I recently had dinner with him a few weeks ago in Southport, North Carolina as him along with some of his fishing buddies from Jacksonville, Florida were down sportsfishing. Was nice to catch up with "The Snake" and reminisce about our road stories.

Lafletcha, mexican star who was trained by one of the Villanos, has some great up and coming talent set to be starting in the industry soon. Majeste is a power-style luchadore with good mat skills. El' Scorpio is very crafty and skilled, and Celtic Dragon who is a good mat wrestler and aerialist. Be on the lookout for these great talents soon.

I was saddened to hear about the passing of former WCW wrestler Joey Maggs. I met Joey a while back with the company as he was always a likeable guy. My thoughts and condolences for out to his family and friends.

It really is surreal to see Kurt Angle sign on with NWA-TNA. The potential matches with Samoa Joe, A.J. Styles, Chris Daniels, Sting, etc. should be exciting for any fan. Looking forward to seeing his debut there.

I caught the Shamrock/Ortiz 3 bout. Knowing from sparring with him in the past, Shamrock is one tough athlete. I am looking forward to seeing the upcoming Ortiz/Chuck "Iceman" Liddell fight as I am an "Iceman" fan.

It was great to see Chris Benoit make his return to the WWE recently. Have enjoyed his return matches with William Regal,Shelton Benjamin, and Ken Kennedy. It would be great to see the World title around his waist once again.

I have not gotten a chance to read Eric Bischoff's new book "Controversy creates Cash" book. I do intend to as it should be a very interesting read. Coming from myself who was there during that point in time, it should be interesting to get his views and opinions on the happenings on WCW, WWE, and the Monday Night Wars.

"Was in a six man tag team match in Dallas, Texas teaming with Black Bart and Wild Bill Irwin along with manager Skandar Akbar against Sam Houston, Lance Von Erich, and Jake Roberts. The match itself had a lot of action with each of us making quick tags. I then get tagged in with Jake. I made fun of him and gave him the "crying baby" look to which he was laughing so hard he dropped on my foot holding my leg. I am trying to take in Irwin and Bart, but Jake is hanging on to my leg sitting on my foot laughing. Finally I made the tag and we are were in the ring except Jake who rolled out still laughing."
