Title Changes And Squashes Hightlight Raw

Coming off the heels of a weak pay-per-view, "Raw" was a strong show mostly due to the hot match between Edge and RVD. In the first "Money In The Bank" qualifying match, Edge scored the win over RVD with the help of Randy Orton. Easily better than any match from No Way Out, Edge is now heading to WrestleMania in the "Money In The Bank" match.

Personally, I think Edge is above the level of competing in such a match. I would have rather seen Edge be the one to represent Vince McMahon at WrestleMania. However that honor is going to Umaga.

Umaga is not only in the most high-profile match at WrestleMania, he's taking the Intercontinental Title with him.

Umaga completely squashed Jeff Hardy to become the new Intercontinental Champion. Hardy got less offense in than Mike Stevens did on Notorious T.I.D. in their match from LLW's "Fallout" this past Saturday night in Hamilton, Ontario. Amazing how Umaga is the same wrestler that was released by WWE just a few years ago. It's incredible what a simple gimmick change can do to a man's career.

WWE currently has the worst crop of backstage interviewers ever. Kristall Marshall was absolutely horrible at No Way Out and Todd Grisham did no better tonight. He looks uncomfortable, out of place, and has no command of the camera. To make matters worse, the new nameless guy they have sucks just as bad. The best talent currently in this role is Jeremy Borash, who I don't see making his way to WWE any time soon.

My recommendation, Michael Hayes. The former Free Bird has done the job in the past and would be an outstanding person to replace Grisham as backstage interviewer. Hayes might even be a good candidate to replace Jerry Lawler as color man on "Raw". Lawler's best years are well behind him and a new voice would be a refreshing change on "Raw."

The Highlanders might be making their way back to the Ontario independent circuit after getting totally squashed in a handicap match against Khali. This is the same team that competed with The Spirit Squad for the Tag Team Titles in September. A squash of this nature leads me to believe this duo might not last much longer. Let's hope The Highlanders can be moved to "SmackDown!" where their characters could shine on a more gimmick oriented show.

Melina is the new Women's Champion after beating Mickie James. This would be the perfect time for Nattie Neidhart to debut and have a match with Melina at WrestleMania, but it looks as though Ashley will be getting that spot. It seems as though there's a tradition of having the Playboy model compete at WrestleMania. Nice message to send the women in the back. Bare it all for Playboy and get a match at WrestleMania.

The dynamic between Cena and Michaels is really starting to get interesting. They had their fun tonight, plugging their new DVD's in a comedic segment. As entertaining as they are, comedy doesn't sell pay-per-view. I'm guessing we see another title change next week when Cena and HBK lose the tag titles to Rated RKO. The HBK character is really hot right now and keeping Cena a babyface over the next five weeks won't be easy.

I was on another site yesterday where people were bitching about the announced RVD / Edge match and how obvious it was that RVD would win.

I smartened them up, and let em know there was NO CHANCE, No Chance in hell that Edge would lose this one.

I'm glad to see Umaga finally take a title. I wish it was Cena's though. My only concern is he's going to lose the match and probably the title at Wrestlemania against whoever he faces. No way is Trump shaving his head. Hair matches are almost always won by babyface.

I think the Cena/Micheals fued is great. I liked it when Shawn was teasing Cena in the ring. Humor doesnt sell PPV but it makes weekly shows interesting.
Good luck everyone in the fantasy. Im wrestling4life. Everyone is doing good.

The Cena / HBK hard sell DX / Marine thing was fucking painful. Cena is not funny and that hardsell gimmick makes me forget how great HBK is.

I don't know which RAW Fronte was watching, but from where I was sitting, it was an ordinary episode. Pointless loss for Hardy. Pointless win for Umaga cause like Jack said, he's gonna lose it at Mania.
So two weeks ago Flair rips Carlito a new one. Now they're teaming up? i'm still hoping for a heel turn from Carlito and a match for the two at Mania.
Edge/RVD was a tremendous match like Fronte said. Easily better than anything on the night before.
How low have the Highlanders fallen, they don't even get their entrance shown.
Man I should have switched up my fantasy team, but completely forgot. Oh well, still at sixth so no beef there.

Well, I think that the most positive thing to come out of last night's RAW episode is the induction of "Mr. Perfect" Curt Henning into the 2007 WWE Hall of Fame. Man, watching those vignettes last night sure brought back some awesome memories of a great wrestler whom I truly miss watching. Congrats to Curt and the Henning family! Well deserved.

The current booking confounds me. For a short time it made sense to me that HBK & Cena would win the Tag Belts from Rated RKO, as it appeared that Rated RKO were heading for Splitsville, and the angle where the champion and the uneasy alliance angle had been previously done with Mankind/Austin and Michaels/Austin. Now it appears that Orton & Edge will regain the titles next week. Either way, they are obviously not in any position to be defended at Mania. Edge is already in the MITB Ladder Match, where Orton is likely to end up as well. Michaels & Cena are one on one for the title.

The best case scenario would see a three way match involving these two teams and an X factor like the newly formed team of Carlito & Flair or an established team like Cryme Tyme, WGTT, or Cade and Murdoch. When either Orton & Edge or Michaels & Cena explode, that team is able to capitalize and take the tag team titles so they can be a featured part of the grandaddy of them all.

It also appears that this is yet another year where the IC title will not be featured, as Umaga defeated Hardy last night and is not likely to lose any matches before Mania. What makes this even worse is the speculation that Lashley will be Trump's pick, meaning that the ECW title will also be held up at Mania.

So currently, we have the WWE tag titles, WWE Intercontinental title, and ECW World title in limbo for Wrestlemania.

We have thrown out intriguing matches like Edge vs. Orton or Carlito vs. Flair, unless it is decided to do the exact same angle with Batista/Taker, Michaels/Cena, Orton/Edge, Carlito/Flair.

Before Now Way Out, if I were booking WrestleMania, I would have the following:

World Heavyweight Championship:
Batista (c) vs. Undertaker

WWE Championship
Cena (c) vs. Shawn Michaels

MITB Ladder Match
RVD vs. CM Punk vs. Jeff Hardy vs. Johnny Nitro vs. MVP vs. Ken Kennedy

Battle of the Billionaires
Umaga vs. Hogan (I know he's on bad terms, but it just makes sense. I would squash the beef.)

Rated RKO Explodes
Randy Orton vs. Edge

Intercontinental Title
Carlito (c) vs. Ric Flair

Cruiserweight Title
Gregory Helms (c) vs. Rey Mysterio

ECW World Title
Lashley (c) vs. Snitsky

WWE Tag Team Titles - Tag Team Turmoil
Cade & Murdoch (c) vs. Cryme Tyme vs. Highlanders vs. World's Greatest Tag Team

Women's Title
Melina (c) vs. Mickie James

US Title
Chris Benoit (c) vs. Finlay vs. Kane vs. King Booker

World Tag Team Titles
London & Kendrick w/ Ashley (c) vs. Deuce & Domino w/ Cherry

ECW Originals vs. New Breed
Burke, Cor Von, Thorn, Striker vs. Dreamer, Sandman, Sabu, Mahoney

Gimmick Match
Matt Hardy vs. Joey Mercury

Dark Match 20-man Battle Royal: Duggan, Dykstra, Khali, Masters, Crazy, Venis, Viscera, Boogeyman, Daivari, Funaki, Chavo, The Miz, Shannon Moore, Jamie Noble, Regal, Scotty 2 Hotty, Sylvan, Jimmy Wang Yang, Rene Dupree, Little Guido.

Lashley is most likely going to be Trumps pick. If thats the case I don't see the title being defended. If not then I'll agree Black Lesnar vs. Snitsky. But if so, the ECW and IC titles will not be defeneded. Shows how much those really mean.
