Umaga Dead

WWE.com has confirmed that former WWE star Umaga (real name Eddie Fatu) passed away today.

Umaga was found this morning by his wife with blood coming from his nose and he was struggling to breathe. He was immediately rushed to hospital, and was pronounced brain dead soon there after. A short time ago, Umaga was taken off of life support.

Umaga, a former WWE Intercontinental Champion, was shockingly released by the WWE on June 8th 2009. He had just completed the Hulkamania tour of Australia, which ended a week ago.

Umaga was a member of the famed Samoan wrestling family and was trained by his Hall Of Fame uncles, Afa and Sika.

As stated many times on Tha O Show radio program, Umaga has long been one of our personal favourite performers and a stand up individual.

This is just unfortunate. And I have to say out of randomness.Deaths always come out of left field, but him though? Most guys you would see this coming to. Eddie had so many years left in him, never got to see his old age or watch his kids grow old.The number of deats in wrestling increases each year but its getting to be ridiculous and at the same time sad.

I just read online that he had a second heart attack at age 36. I'm 34 and this has me scared. What are these guys doing to their bodies that they have so highly disproportionate numbers of deaths of relatively young men? I feel for the family and hope this will change some minds of those younger peformers, but like other incidents in the past I don't see this being an impetus for change.

As fans we are spoiled by these performers with no off-season, demanding bigger and greaters risks for our entertainment. This may bring out the old cannards of a union in WWE, more off time, etc., but in the end pro wrestling is entertainment more than sport and no sporting rules will ever supercede the maxim of entertainment - The Show Must Go On.

My condolences to all his friends and family.
