"The Midnight Special" RJ City opened the show by giving his own intro and calling out Notorious TID. TID won the ensuing battle fo words and RJ jumped him to kick off the first match...
1) "The Midnight Special" RJ City def Notorious TID [5 min]
The jaw jacking session prior to the match lasted one minute longer then the bell to bell action did. Solid little bout that saw RJ do whatever he could to slow the assault of the much larger TID. Every time RJ was on the receiving end of things he'd scream and wail "I'm sorry" or beg for mercy. Naturally TID didn't give him any and RJ ate a few serious high impact moves before pulling out a surprise pinfall be covering TID after catching him with a boot to the face on a charge in the corner. RJ used his feet on the ropes for leverage to get the pin and the fans were almost as irate as TID was. The Notorious one grabbed RJ after the bell and destroyed him with a Muscle Buster.
2) Hornet w/ Amy Victory def "Secta de Uno" Rico Montana w/ Holly Hilton and Masayuki Kono [7 min]
The match started as a singles contest between Hornet and Rico (whose entrance music was performed live by Hip Hop artist Dan-e-o) but 2 minutes into it All Japan star Kono joined the match to make it a 3-way. The first couple minutes of the 3-way action played out as a series of 1 on 1 combinations as all 3 combattants found moments to take a breather while the other two scapped it out.
Hornet's speed and aerial abilities served him well against against both his much bigger opponents but it was Rico's explosive power that dominated once all 3 began battling at once. Montana almost drove Kono through the mat with a DDT then caught Hornet's 'rana attempt and turned it into a Spinning Powerbomb right onto Kono. Rico mounted the ropes to pose and flaunt his dominance to the fans and Hornet recovered enough to pin Kono and get the win behind Rico's back.
Darko's Desk:
A table and a couple chairs were brought into the ring for the first ever Darko's Desk segment. The host, Anthony Darko, dressed in Giant Tiger's finest street wear came to the ring with a coffe mug and sat at the table where he smugly introduced his first guest "Dangerboy" Derek Wylde. Darko asked a couple quick questions that he never gave Wilde a chance to answer and then asked him how it felt to lie to all the fans about his so-called retirement.
Wilde was hot but before he could answer Darko introduced his next guest, Kris Chambers. Chambers got in the ring and told Wilde he didn't care how many times Dangerboy retired because Chambers was the man now. The man companies built their promotion around. Wilde grabbed the mic and said he was the man who brought Chambers into the business and called him "my biggest failure". Chambers attacked Wilde and he and Darko stomped and kicked Dangerboy until Tyson Dux ran out to make the save.
3) VIP (Sebastian Suave & Alexander the Great) def Crazzy Steve & Physco Mike [11 min]
Lots of comedy before the bell as Steve & Mike got their hands on VIP's ring jackets, aping and mocking the bad guys. Great little tag bout once they got going. Sauve & Alexander showed great intensity and nailed some great double-team maneuvers despite the totally unorthadox and random attack and defense moves of Mike & Steve.
Psycho Mike was isolated and beat upon by VIP for a good part of the match but Crazzy Steve eventually found his way legally back into the action and the last few moments were a wild all out brawl. Mike missed a crossbody over the top to the floor which left Crazzy Steve alone against the two villians. Alexander used a gut-wrench pickup to set Steve up for a wicked neckbreaker from Suave before pinning him to win the match. Steve & Mike chased Suave & Alexander from the ring after the match. (Suave's new beard looks great and adds considerably to his badass persona)
4) George "Dynamite" Terzis def Pepper Parks [13 min]
Fantastic match up that saw both guys unleash some very snug holds and blistering strikes. When the action spilled outside the ropes it was George's leg strikes that dominated the brief ringside brawl. Both guys bent the rules but it was Pepper who used cheats the most. The crowd was solidly behind Terzis and exploded in cheers when he forced Parks to tap out to an armlock. Lots of fans called this one the Match of the Night.
Intermission:
Lots of stars mingled with fans, signing autographs etc. TID was out greeting fans when RJ City snuck out and stole his barbed-wire wrapped kendo stick. TID chased RJ around the venue and out onto the street as fans laughed and cheered.
5) The M.O.B. Al Barone def Xtremo [8 min]
Barone cut a promo prior to the match. Speaking in italian then translating into english, Barone told the tale of his parents coming to Canada in 1959 with nothing but a suitcase and that he, Al Barone, their first born son, had grown to become the Man Of Business who fought all over the world. Having heard of the Elite Wrestling Alliance he had come to Toronto to see for himself how tough the competition was. Barone is a hulking brute of a man, towering over Xtremo and outweighing him by close to 100 lbs (if not more.) Xtremo fought valiantly but couldn't overcome the relentless power attack and brutal cheats of the Canadian/Italian M.O.B. Barone pinned Xtremo after a Samoan Drop.
6) The Flatliners (Matt Burns & Asylum) def The Cody Cousins (Cody 45 & Cody Deaner) [13 min]
Deaner & 45 were out to the ring first, resplendant in their trailor park finest. Fans greeted them with cheers until Deaner got on the mic and started talking about how he was a television superstar now and had realized the the wrestling fans of Toronto were the dumbest, smelliest people he'd ever seen. Deaner finally got around to calling out the Flatliners who came to the ring while Dan-e-o sang their entrance song.
This was a wild match from start to finish that had some great interaction between the Flats and the fans as the crowd called for the "triple stack" and the Flats tried to figure out exactly which of their moves that term described. They eventually captured Deaner with an elevated set-up into a powerbomb and then crushed Cody 45 with Death From Above for the win.
7) "Textbook" Tyson Dux def Kris Chambers [20 min]
A great main event that saw both guys go all out to get the win. Dux seemed to like a slower pace when he was in control and forced Chambers to counter-wrestle out of a number of on the mat holds and submission attempts. Stevens contered Dux's technical attack with cheats and a speedy striking offense on and above the mat. (One Chambers dropkick was spectacular in height, speed and accuracy.) As the action grew even more intense near the end of the bout, referee Dave Linton was inadvertantly superkicked by Chambers and fell unconcious to the canvas as both Dux and Chambers both fell exhausted.
Suddenly Dangerboy Derek Wilde ran to the ring and gave Chambers a DVD. A random ring crew guy dragged a discombobulated ref Linton from the ring as Chris the Ref ran out to count Tyson's cover on Chambers. Somehow Kris was able to kick out at 2 and then surprised Dux with a superkick for a near fall of his own. Dux pulled Chambers from the ropes for a Kryptonite Crunch for a 2 then had to escape to quick pin attempts himself - the first after a sneak roll-up and the second after eating a big boot to the face. Chambers mounted the corner ropes and jumped from the top with an Ax Handle but Dux met him with a big punch to the gut then nailed his Brainbuster for the win.
After the match, a tape by Johnny Devine was played wherein Devine stated that Dux had never defeated him and he was coming to EWA to beat Tyson again. Dux admitted that he had never beaten Devine but seemed more amused at Devine's "Joker" impression than concern about the former TNA superstar's threats taped threats.
So...after their infamous first show, changes to the creative team, the new "Elite" name change, a lengthy break before this second show, an eleventh hour venue change and a shitty spring storm and a potential suicide jumper snarling traffic across Toronto just prior to the event (and causing a delayed start) EWA delivered a show stacked with great matches. Not a stinker in the bunch. Not even close to a stinker. Everyone worked their asses off and provided a show filled with talent and action that eclipsed most PPV events in terms of excitement value for your buck.
EWA's next event is July 11th at the Factory.
