Tha Raw Report

I can't believe that I'm going to say what I'm about to say. John Cena's promo last night was better than Edge's. I never thought I would see the day where that would happen, but somehow it did. Somehow John Cena managed to get through a promo without making 3rd grade jokes or without starting to yell for no apparent reason. He calmly congratulated the Rated R Superstar, then immediately challenged him to a rematch, all without being overly cheese. Edge, conversely, cut the exact same promo that I've seen him cut at least twice before.

Everything, from the stream of "You were wrong, wrong, wrong!" to going to the outside and taunting a young fan to coming back into the ring and flopping while still chanting "wrong, wrong, wrong!", had been done before. A guy who is as good on the stick as him should never cut the exact same promo twice. Never.

So, with John Cena vs. Edge seemingly set for WrestleMania, that leaves the other champion, Triple H, who made an appearance last night at the end of "Raw" after Randy Orton punted Shane McMahon and gave Stephanie a stiff-looking RKO out of nowhere. This all was on the heels of a quasi-rematch between Orton and Shane, a match that I again thought should have been a squash, especially considering how they put over Shane's injuries throughout the night.

A Randy Orton vs. Triple H storyline can go places. Aside from when Randy was first kicked out of Evolution, they've never had a prolonged one-on-one feud, and that's a program that could be money. Orton still hates Evolution, he made that very clear during his program with Batista, one that's still somewhat fresh in the fans' minds, so they can easily build off of that. I wouldn't be surprised if Orton injuring Batista somehow works its way into a promo or two.

Speaking of repetitive promos, what is Chris Jericho doing? Last week, Jericho blew Flair off, accusing him of simply pandering to the fans (isn't that irony on a WWE broadcast, an accusation of pandering to the fans), and then this week, when Roddy Piper comes out, he tells him the same thing! Is that his kneejerk response for this program? Anybody who tries to get into a promo battle with him will be told that they're pandering? I normally hate drinking Donnie-Aid, but Jericho gets on my nerves a little more every week. And shave that goatee, you look ridiculous.

Shawn Michaels and JBL are going to fight next week for the right to face The Undertaker at WrestleMania. Why? As great of a match as either of those might be, I doubt either of these men would be the one who creative allows to snap 'Taker's streak. Give the match to somebody else and have these JBL and HBK square off at 'Mania. Big ups to the Michaels promo, by the way. Man, I've had some bosses in the past that I've wanted to do that to.

I thought Terry Funk was already in the Hall Of Fame. Oh, well. Shows how much attention I pay to it. Fuck Rey Mysterio. Either do something meaningful with Kane or cut him, a company in financial trouble should not have a guy on the roster if they use him simply as spontaneous filler every week.

Is William Regal sick or what? I had heard he was, but he still keeps appearing on TV. If he's so sick that he can't work, forget having him in small spots; don't have him on TV at all. Let him go home and get better. The last thing you want is for something bad to happen to a worker, especially one with a history of drug use such as Regal.

Last but not least, Santino is hilarious, every single week. I really hope this does lead to a diva stable, especially in the wake of three face divas coming out at the end of the Melina/Beth Phoenix match to take out Rosa Mendez and Santino. If you're going to try and make women's wrestling important, that would be a good way to do it.

Tha Results:
*Melina def. Beth Phoenix to retain Women's Championship
*Rey Mysterio def. Mike Knox
*Kane def. Jamie Noble
*Cody Rhodes, Ted DiBiase & William Regal def. CM Punk & Cryme Tyme

C'Mon Casur, tell me you haven't heard Flair cut the same promo a time or two. I was entertained by both Edge and Cena last night, actually I think everyone on the show (minus Kane) done great jobs. Way to rally together and make the first Raw leading to WM a damn good one.

Sometimes you have to reiterate your point, especially in wrestling. Jericho and Piper was another great segment; I'm not sure yet where it's going, but Jericho is sticking to his point and making it clear.

Takers streak goes 20-0, never broken. Why break it? Orton is the only guy I could see WWE having enough faith in to deserve it.

Agree with you slightly about Cena /Edge,but i got a kick out of him taunting the kid. The Jericho Piper segment was aggravating. Piper was great on the stick. Better than i have seen him in a while but there was NO suspense. You knew where it was going so fuck that.HBK/JBL segment was hype! Loved HBK's finger poking bit, That was GOLD! Winner vs Taker at Mania? Bullshit! Give the spot to a worker who needs the rub.
Somebody,PLEASE tell me why Kane and Cryme Tyme are still on television? Cryme Tyme's gimmick is beyond LAME and as for Kane...RUINED FORVER!!!!! Santino is GOLD,nuff said. Shane/Orton=NICE! But this shit should have been a squash and logically it makes no sense to have Shane hang with the company's top heel in a new holds barred street fight. It does nothing for Orton. The ending was outstanding but i have to wonder how they are going to explain HHH suddenly after all these years of Kayfabe now acknowledging his legit marriage to the bosses daughter. His character is now officaly fucked and they can not logically ever do the DX bit ever again if his character is married to the Boss's daughter.Creative is simply not ...well creative enough to write themselves out of the corner they just placed themselves in. Besides,HHH in the Main event at Mania equals me not buying the me not watching.Leave it up to the fed to waste what could have been a golden opportunity to really make Mania 25 special.

Damn Casur, I think Kane would like to keep his job. If you gave everybody with a shitty angle a pink slip...well the 3 shows probably would have 9 wrestlers. Give me an angle that would work for Kane....can't be in a tag team cause he fucks over every one of them. Can't be a IC champ cause people rather see him chase a belt than defend one......Only one I see for him is to back to his roots, run ins and no matches for a few months..

And who says HHH is fucked for the reveal? Shit, this is wrestling, they can recon this shit to make him still be Chynna boyfriend if they wanted to....

We have seen a geriatric woman give birth to a hand...
A man come out an eat a pound of worms...
& grown men kissing their boss' ass to keep there job.....they can do anything they want...

And let Santino win the MITB match in WM 25......just to see him for 10 months carrying a briefcase, taunting champions that he could beat...just not tonight!

Wait. Are you telling me that with a two hour show there were only four matches? Insane.

How can Rey get into this feud with Knox when he isnt even done with Kane? This makes no sense. I like Knox and his new look. I just wish he were on SD instead. Raw isnt the show for him.

Poor Noble. Wait. isnt he on ECW? Didnt he just give Tyson Suchandsuch the look last week?

Regal should stay home and rest. He looks tired. They are just beating him down now.

And they have mentioned HHH and Steph being together. Offhand I can think of when HHH had a kid and put a pic up of Steph's baby with his face. When he told her a while ago he'd see her when he got home. Its not breaking kayfabe or anything. Its just not discussed on the show often.

I wanna see Orton kicked someone in the head every week.

by Evitman,
is one of the best sugestion i've heard, but unfortunatley the WWE wont do it, they'll give MIB to someone like CM Puke or Rey Mastreo

I might have been wrong about Casur(there might be a chance for him yet)he almost put Cena over(what happened did hell freeze over,or is it because bigdaddy has come around in regards to Cena as we heard on tha O show last week (LOL))

Evitman-
It's not that he has a shitty angle. He has no angle. They don't know what they're doing with him week in and week out, evidenced by him freely switching between heel and face regularly and almost weekly. Move him back to ECW or SmackDown!, clearly define him as a heel or face, and have him be a legit monster again, because he's getting lost on Raw.

Birdie-
Thanks for the compliment, I think. I haven't listened to last week's O Show yet, honestly. I just got a chance to finally listen to the Cherry Bomb episode yesterday, for that matter. So the put-over has to do with him not doing the things that for months I've said bother me. Cena has charisma, he showed it all the time early in his WWE career, but when he tries to be too cartoonish by being corny or by yelling, he kills it.

See, the problem I had with Cena's promo is primarily the end. A calm, threatening "I'll hurt you" completely misses the mark from him, because it doesn't strike me as threatening at all. Maybe it's because of his daft promos in the past, his purile jokes and the fact that he dresses like a ten year old, but even being the Fed's "superman" doesn't make him seem threatening anymore. I actually thought Edge oversold it by looking hesitant and nervous the whole time. Would have been way better if he was nervous for a couple of seconds, then put a fake sense of bravado and confidence out.

And I think this is actually the third time we've had the "wrong!" promo. But you know what? It's still good, and it was the perfect kind of promo for the situation. And above all, it was damn entertaining. Hell, Santino has been doing the same basic promo variation for God knows how long, and he's still ace. Getting me one of those Ferrari shirts in April.

Yeah, all the Shane stuff should have all been total squash. Or at least it could have shown Shane being determined without him getting much offense in. I'd have been totally cool with him, say, fighting his way off of a stretcher as he's carted off to an Ambulance and limping back down the ramp only to have his head bashed in again. Instead of him having an actual chance, the angle should have been based more around him knowing he's going to get kicked to fuck but having to do it for family honor and the like. Like an execution-style squash. Woulda been really hard-hitting.

Speaking of hard hitting, I loved Roddy's promo. It was one of those rare, magical promos that come from 'real' facts, in this case the fact that he has been through a lot of shit, like his cancer recently. That and his genuine delivery just made it. At first I thought I was shoot hot at Jerri for the blatant kick, but looking back I think it was perfect kayfabe heat. Gotta say though, Rourke's out, right? So they seem to be using him as a plot device for this HoF Vs. Y2J thing. Problem is, as always, it seems like a blatant shill, but more blatant because of how they don't seem to be doing the original angle anymore.

As a related aside,I really, really, really wish the Fed would drop their 'ranks', by which I mean "Divas", "Legends" and, to a lesser extent (though no less in contempt), "Superstars". The only problem I had with Rod's whole promo was when he, in the middle of all this heartfelt stuff, goes, "you wanna call out the other Legends"? Their titles of S-Stars, Divas and Legends are WAY over the top in their wording, and cheapen them as a result. Like when Beth says stuff like, "the most dominant diva in the WWE". It just screams, "Go Go Power Rangers! I am Captain Planet! Thunderbirds are go!" And don't get me started on TNA's "knockouts" title, something that sounds more like a title Lesnar would be up for.

It seems that for the past few years everyone seems convinced that a Streak-break is imminent. Personally I think it really should stay in place. In a time when there's like three million PPVs a year, it's one of the few things (the only thing?) that keeps Wrestlemania still feeling special. There's also very little chance that it will pay off as much as it should, it'll just be another Flair retirement angle again, but with very little buildup. Loads of people complained about that.
It's true that neither HBK nor JBL will break the streak, and we all know that, (though I think maybe a few people, with Flair/HBK in mind, might not be QUITE so sure), but I think it will get the job done: A massively entertaining, well-worked, PPV quality match between Taker and someone high enough on the card to at least provide a legitimate threat so, like at WM21 with Orton.

The announcement of Terry and Dory's HoF induction is awesome, made me grin /almost/ as much as when they announced Perfect. Now you /have/ to wonder if this means we'll get to see Jericho Vs. Chainsaw Charlie...

Cutting Kane because of creative is pretty damn unfair. He's a solid worker, great veteran and, while he doesn't draw like the current main eventers, I think he's reached that part of his veteran career where people attending like events feel it means something to see him live, just like how I assume most of that crowd felt when Roddy showed up.

I can definitely see Santino heading a women's stable, and referring himself as the Hef of the WWE or something. Only problem with it is there's really nobody to feud with in the women's division. I suppose they could mix it up and have them feud with a few face women and midcarders like Noble while Santino puts over that "these women, they are the man enough" to do so. Shame Victoria's gone, really. Beth, Vic and Nattie in that stable would be ace. And of course the angle could play out where he's clearlyintimidated by them and totally not running the thing like he thinks he is.

That leads me on to one of my biggest beefs with wrestling in the last however many years, and that's the lack of stables. Oh, sure, theres the MEM, but TNA are killing that dead, and the Front Line doesn't actually exist. You might say Legacy, but it, currently, really is Orton and his tag team henchmen. If you ask me, the perfect stable template is the DX Army template: Main eventer, midcarder, tag team, woman. I guess the Spirit Squad were a stable, but they really were just a big tag team.

In closing, seems pretty obvious that H (who really is the definition of someone who doesn't even need a belt) is gonna stay on Raw to sort Orton out, while Edge will stay on SD. Then again, there was the Cena Edge confrontation, though that might just be up until their rematch. Interesting.

I wanted to say something about SD here, but screw it, I'll wait 'til Friday.

Jesus, I wrote a bit more than I meant to today. Next time on Robbie's Angle: Selling and Why It Sucks (featuring Rey Mastrio).

Well to answer a few questions here. WWE will be in my town March 23rd and the main event is Cena and DX vs Legacy. So it's looking like it'll be HHH vs Orton (no suprise) but it also shows that they are going to have no problem going ahead with DX apparently. Just thought i'd throw that out there
