Save Us Double J!!

I can’t even believe I thought it. Last year the idea crossed my mind and I blamed it on the heat, my lack of eating properly, or the shit floating around in the sky. But last year as I watched Impact! the thought came to me that I never thought would: TNA needs Jeff Jarrett.

The reasons for it aren’t simple. In TNA there are far too many guys that walk the line between heel and face. One week you’re supposed to cheer and the next you’re wondering why he’s acting the way he does. With Jarrett there was no line. You hated him.

You hated his obnoxious music, you hated the fact that he owned a part of the company, you hated that he held the title for so damned long. But what happened when he lost it? Nothing.

No one has been able to hold the strap the way he did. Former champs like Christian, Rhyno (or is it Rhino?), Sting, and Ron Killings are just answers to trivia (perhaps trivial) questions.

Even though we begged for Jarrett to lose that belt, once he did the company was missing something very important: a true heel.

Jarrett is like HHH in that even when he is a face he works like a heel. When he saves someone you wait for him to smash them over the head with his guitar. No one gets the response Jarrett does no matter how hard they try. They filled the ring with garbage when he won matches. They chanted for him to be fired when he spoke.

That kind of heat is fucking incredible. No matter how hard guys like Orton, Edge, or Angle try the fans will not chant for them to be fired. Some went so far as to be happy when Jarrett’s wife died. That’s a new kind of heat. That isn’t X-Pac Heat. That’s Jeff Heat.

Right now TNA needs Jarrett more than ever. For too long the show has had moments where it seemed that it would shine but fell flat on its face. Teasing Jarrett for too long will have a bad effect. As soon as we see a guitar we know who it is. We know Honky Tonk Man isn’t coming out to wrestle in the Impact! zone.

Jarrett made me feel good about watching Impact! for all the right reasons. I didn’t hate all the backstage politic bullshit that went down. I don’t care about that. I wanted to see him get his ass kicked.

That made me feel the way i did when I was little and would watch a Mr. Perfect, Razor Ramon, or Big Bossman match. Even though I liked the dude I still wanted him to lose because of the way he won.

Bringing back Jarrett back will also add some solidity to the heavyweight title. It seems to bounce around the same guys and once they get it they don’t know what to do with it. I want Double J to come back and get that strap in less than a month. I want him to hold it for a year. I want him to cheat his way back into the hearts of fans.

This is me begging TNA: Please save us Double J!!!

It's true. I'd hated Jeff all the way through since 1997 'til his original hiatus in Impact. And that's when I realised that, Jesus, Impact needed Jeff. When he returned as a face... okay, that wasn't fantastic as a whole, since he's a natural heel, but that first appearance as "the 5th man", with the longer hair and casual dress as opposed to the usual white attire and such, worked really well and felt really refreshing, for one night at least.

True though, he does need to be a heel. I have a feeling that he's long past all the belt-hogging people accused him of, and with that out of the way he has the potential to be an outrageously successful heel, more so than before.
