Lesnar Wins In MMA Debut

Last night, the K1/Elite XC Dynamite!! USA card (couldn't someone think of a better name?) finally went down.

The show featured countless scrubs and tomato cans and really only came down to two fights and one "hmmm, that might be interesting".

Former WWE Heavyweight Champion and NCAA Heavyweight wrestling champion, Brock Lesnar was scheduled to take on Hong Man-Choi. For whatever reason you believe, Hong Man-Choi backed out, leaving Lesnar with Min Soo Kim, who was neither a scrub nor a tomato can. Even both those terms put him over way too much.

Lesnar dominated Min Soo Kim, and the little bitch tapped out from strikes to the head. He didn't even cover up, just tapped out. Is this a credit to Lesnar's overwhelming striking power, or does it speak more to the quality of opponent? The match was over 1:09 into the first freaking round. Thanks for your 40 bucks folks.

The other big match of interest was a rematch between a couple of icons in the sport. Royce Gracie and Kazushi Sakuraba. This should have been the main event, not the Lesnar fight. The last time these two knuckled up was seven years ago. Gracie's team threw in the towel, fearing for Royce's safety.

Royce was looking to choke Sakuraba out. That didn't happen, but he did earn himself a win by unanimous decision.

As far as the "hmmm, that might be interesting" story of the night: former NFL wide receiver Johnny Morton was making his MMA debut. Morton is 35 years old. He was a first round draft pick of the Detroit Lions in 1994, and was in the league until the 49ers cut him loose in 2006.

38 seconds into the fight, Morton was knocked out worse than a Corner or Defensive End ever could have done to him. Bernard Ackah delivered some sick strikes, dropping Morton to the mat. He layed motionless for what seemed like forever, and was eventually neck-braced and stretchered out.

Our friends at Sherdog.com tell us that Morton was indefinitely suspended after being carried out because he refused to take the post-fight anti-doping test. The California State Athletic Commission has denied Morton the $100,000 purse he was supposed to receive.

For a fight that only lasted a minute, I was impressed at the few skills Brock was able to show. He passed guard very easily, was very quick on his feet, and showed that he could ground & pound.

But then again, he did fight a guy who had a 2-5 record going in and the silver medalist in the 1996 Olympics (Hidehiko Yoshida being the gold) in Judo.

Where does Brock go from here? K-1 definetly doesn't have a lot of top heavyweights...I wouldn't be surprised to see Brock fight someone from either Pride or the UFC before the end of the year.

he will fight an actual tomato can then move on to someone bigger. eventually he will lose, take his ball and go home

Let's see...there's not that many GREAT heavyweights currently in MMA.

Randy Couture, Fedor Emelianenko, Mirko Cro-Cop (yes, still one of the best even though he got KTFO by Gonzaga), Brandon Vera, Josh Barnett, and Mark Hunt.

There's no way in hell Brock could compete with those guys, but given enough time in a cage and/or ring and more training with the Gracies, you could possibly add his name to that list.

he hasnt even trained with a gracie
