The Year Of Upsets In UFC Continues...

2007 has been the single greatest year of upsets in UFC history. Just ask Georges St. Pierre. Ask Mirko Cro Cop. Tonight, you could ask Keith Jardine or Chuck Liddell.

If you missed last night's PPV, then you missed the crowning of a new champion, the end of an era and the rise of a new star.

Quinton "Rampage" Jackson is one of only three men to have ever beaten Chuck Liddell. Last night, he became the only man to beat "The Iceman" twice, knocking him out in shocking fashion just a minute and a half into the first round. Rampage caught Liddell with a right hook that he STILL hasn't seen. Liddell went down and had "Big" John McCarthy stop the fight a few straight punches later. Your winner, and the NEW Light Heavyweight Champion of the world...Quinton Jackson.

Some of the people I watched the event with questioned if Liddell had been robbed, as the fight seemed to be stopped quickly - but the truth is, Liddell ate several straight shots from Jackson, and Liddell's body went limp and flat. McCarthy did the right thing.

When asked about the fight afterwards. Liddell showed tremendous class, simply saying "I got caught. It happens".

In other action:

"The Dean of Mean" Keith Jardine was cutting promos where he said he should be in a title fight and not facing a guy having his first UFC fight. He made it very clear that he was pissed off that he had to fight newcomer, Houston Alexander. He was pissed off he had to fight him...now he's going to be beggin' for a rematch cuz Jardine was knocked out cold in just 48 seconds!!!

Another kid made his UFC debut last night. It was Jeremy Stephens, but like Din Thomas said during the pre fight interview "Sorry about your damn luck". Stephens, fighting on his 21st birthday did a great job surviving a rear naked choke in the first before losing to an arm bar at the end of the second round. Stephens was pissed cuz he didn't tap, but as Thonas said "He had to tap, or I was gonna rip his arm out and take it home".

Karo Parisyan beat Josh Burkman by unanimous decision.

If the pattern of UFC upsets continues, then at UFC 72, Tito Ortiz will be knocked out by Rashad Evans...during the weigh in.

Expect Evans to destroy Mr. Jenna. With all the upsets and the money that these supposed upsets brings in, there has to be a work involved somewhere. No way this is all 100% legit.

Great PPV overall last night. I have to disagree with Kingdom, after what I saw last night, I think Rampage will be extremely marketable as a champion. He was very entertaining in all of the lead up to the fight and then goes out and delivers when it matters the most.

I thought the best KO of the night was Houston's K.O of Jardine, it was sick!

Yup yup, I called it on Tha O Show last week. Rampage baby. Rampage. The Jardine/Alexander match was awesome. That was just great to see a new guy come in with such an awesome killer instinct. The Leben/Kalib match was fight of the night, and the Alexander knockout of Jardine was definately KO of the night.

All in all a pretty awesome show.
