Conway Released

Somehow it flew under the radar that Rob Conway was released by the WWE on Friday morning.

On the January 1st 2007 edition of "Raw" Conway was fired by Vince McMahon after a strong of losses, culminating in a 20 second pinfall defeat to then-Intercontinental champion, Jeff Hardy.

We thought this firing was part of a gimmick to repackage Conway and advance his character. In actuality, they probably forgot he was still on the active roster and then figured... screw it. Let him go.

Conway was a long time smark favourite during his indy run and his time in OVW, where he twice captured the Heavyweight title. He was also a 10 time co-hold of the OVW Southern Tag staps with Nick Dinsmore (aka Eugene).

Conway did win three WWE tag title with Sylvain Grenier as a member of the new La Resistance.

Conway, aged 32, signed his inital WWE developmental deal in 2000 - and now sees his seven year WWE career come to a close.

At least his kayfabe exit was entertaining. Nothing like a good McMahon firing.

I marked out for The Conway Rag. Not since Homer Simpson changed his name to Max Power had the world heard such a great theme song.
