Mothers Of Wrestling

With today being Mother's Day, we here at Tha O Show send our best wishes to all Tha O-Mommas of Tha O-ster nation. Some mothers have played a key role in the lives of many professional wrestlers and have been the matriarchs of some of the legendary families that have defined this industry.

For Canadians, there was no mother more crucial to the success of professional wrestling in Canada then Helen Hart. Helen was the matriarch of Canada's wrestling dynasty as she was the mother of Bret, Owen, Bruce, Smith, Keith, Ross, Wayne, and Dean. Helen's grandchildren including Harry Smith, Teddy Hart, and Nattie Neidhart are now carrying on the family's legacy.

Helen helped her husband Stu run Stampede Wrestling for years and was instrumental in the promotion's success. Helen may be most famous however for her brief appearances on WWF(E) television. The most infamous appearance Helen made came in 1994 at the Survivor Series where she threw in the towel to save her son Bret as he was trapped in the "cross-face chicken wing" of Bob Backlund for over 10 minutes. The towel toss, forced upon Helen by her son Owen, cost Bret the WWF Title. Helen left us in 2001 at the age of 76, but will forever be remembered as a key figure in Canadian professional wrestling.

Though few can argue that Stephanie McMahon is the most powerful woman in professional wrestling, her mother Linda is the one who started it all. As the Chief Executive Officer of WWE, Linda is seen more during investor conference calls today as opposed to her television role. Though Linda has stood mainly in the shadows of her husband Vince, she has been a major part of WWE since its inception. With Linda nearing the age of 60 and recently becoming a grandmother for the second time, I think it's safe to say that Stephanie will assume her mother's role sooner rather than later.

She is without a doubt one of the most infamous mothers in the history of professional wrestling. Judy Bagwell. Yes, the mother of Buff Bagwell who briefly appeared on WCW television deserves to be mentioned with other famous wrestling mothers. Judy was famous in WCW as she often called in sick on behalf of her son. That's right, Buff would get his mother to call in sick for him. I guess some guy's just never really grow up.

Have a great day and be good to your mothers.
