Couture Is Tha Man - Again.

As the entire round table predicted on this week's episode of 'Rated O Radio', Tim Sylvia was completely dominated by Randy Couture.

By the time it was all said and done, The 43-year old "Natural" had given his comeback story a Hollywood-perfect finish by regaining the UFC Heavyweight title by unanimous decision.

Remember, up until two months ago, Couture was retired from active competition. He announced on a special edition of Inside The UFC that he was coming back to challenge the Maineiac for his title.

Couture is incredible. Forget the fact that he's 43 and in the best shape of his life. Think for a second that he won the UFC Heavyweight tile almost 10 years ago, then won the Light Heavyweight strap before retiring and turning this trick.

The man is an MMA machine.

In his fight with Sylvia last night he dominated every facet of the fight. He was dominant on the ground (almost sinking a rear naked choke in the first) and took the stand up to his much bigger opponent through out. The only time Sylvia seemed to do any damage was in the 2nd when he threw some stiff shots from his closed guard. Even still, Couture weathered and found a decisive win.

In other fights:

I'd like someone to please revoke Jason MacDonald's status as a Canadian citizen. Sure, Rich Franklin came in to this fight prepared and put a beating on "The Athlete" but the stupid bitch called an audible and lost by verbal tap out BETWEEN ROUNDS. Dude, if you can't handle strikes, go back to competitive Volley ball.

Matt Hughes managed to survive three rounds against Chris Lytle. I really don't think that Hughes earned his unanimous decision though. Split at best. Lytle sunk in a guillotine early and looked like he might force the former champ to tap. They traded shots in the 2nd and 3rd and the bell did save Lytle at the end of round 2. Not a bad fight, but I think I was far more impressed with Lytle than Hughes.

Other Quick Results:

Renato "Babalu" Sobral got his ass knocked out by Jason Lambert at 3:36 of Round Two.

Martin Kampmann defeated Drew McFedries via submission (arm triangle) at 4:06 of Round One.

Matt Hamill (the deaf wrestler from The Ultimate Fighter) defeated Rex Holman via TKO (strikes) at 4:00 of Round One.

Jon Fitch beat Luigi Fioravanti via submission (rear naked choke) at 3:05 of Round Two.

Gleison Tibau beat Jason Dent via unanimous decision (30-27x3).

Jamie Varner made Jason Gilliam tap to a rear naked choke at 1:34 of Round One.

The Sharks in Vegas made a killing putting their money on Couture (who was coming in as the underdog).

I can't believe we were all wrong about Macdonald, I think Franklin may have regained the form he had Pre-Louiseau.

Maybe I'm overstepping my bounds here, but I find it interesting that the "underdog" has prevailed yet again in a big money UFC fight. Much like in the WWE...maybe there was some truth to the Hulksters words?

Hahaha

i wouldn't go that far DJB. I think what happened was the odds makers in Vegas found a way to make some big money off this fight.

Anyone who knows anything about MMA knew that Couture was going to win last night, but if you're an outsider looking in who wants to place a bet, you think to yourself there's no way a 43 year old 5'10" guy is beating a 6'8" in his prime.

The only thing that was worked last night was the odd-makers making Couture the underdog.

You got me fuckin frank, I don't really know that much about MMA, but you're right, I sure as hell wouldn't pick the older smaller guy over the younger bigger guy. Especially since I've heard nothing about the bigger guy except that he's a damn monster, and is unstoppable.

D.J.B I can't believe you can try to say that you believe that UFC is a work... I sorry but if you watched that fight with Couture and Sylvia you could see that Sylvia tried everything in the book to beat Couture, but Couture has study Sylvia like a book, and stayed true to his word that he, like he said he found the holes in Sylvia's game and took advatage of them such as Sylvia being slow, and that pretty much once you take away Sylvia's punching ablilty he has pretty much nothing. Couture was the underdog to people who don't know the business because like Fonte said who could believe a 43 year old man could beat a 30 year old in his Prime but all of us who watch MMA like crazy know that Couture was serious about coming back and he was going to beat Sylvia down. And if you are talking about other underdogs in UFC pay-per-view main events, I would like to know which ones you are talking about because the last couple of PPV surely didn't shock me like George St. Pierre vs Matt Hughes at UFC 65, sure people where saying Matt Hughes was at his prime and that he wasn't going to be beat but they also said that G.S.P was the same so MMA'ers knew that G.S.P had a huge chance over Matt Hughes. UFC 66 Liddell vs Ortiz now this was didn't have a chance we all saw how Liddell knock the shit out of Ortiz the first time and we all knew it was going to be different the second time. So that wasn't a shock at all, only people who weren't known to MMA would think that Ortiz would win because he looks all bad with his mouth but his has no action when it came to this match.
The only one that I could say had to be somewhat of an upset was the Middleweight fight at UFC 64, Anderson Silva vs Rich Franklin, I believe that in this fight even thought Silva is a amazing fighter we all taught that Franklin would come out on top because he was so dominate at the time but he suffered a lost. But I would't be surpise after his fight at UFC 68 against McDonald that he beat Silva for the title in a rematch because Damn didn't he look strong in that match.

Thats my rant!
Peace Brother!
