In fact, they were the actual very first words to come out of my mouth when I heard...excuse me...read the news.
The first match officially scheduled for Survivor Series is Team DX (made up of Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Jeff Hardy, Matt Hardy and CM Punk) VS. Team RKO (Edge, Randy Orton, Johnny Nitro, Gregory Helms and Mike Knox).
It must be said again: Holy shit!
This revelation is incredible on so many levels, I don't know where to start. But here goes...
First off, being the old-school WWF cat that I am, I LOVE the idea of returning Survivor Series back to its orginal format of having 5 on 5 elimination matches. Considering that WWE was a huge wealth of talent divided amongst three separate brands, it only makes sense to utilize all of these workers in a unique way that would otherwise never happen. Survivor Series is the PERFECT event to have "Raw", "SmackDown!" and ECW mix and mingle. Or better yet...tear the roof off!
Secondly, as if WWE read Big Daddy Donnie's article about how he would book Cyber Sunday, our favourite wrestling organization is actually going to do some booking that is truly intriguing. This one match alone mixes four separate rivalries into one match.
Of course, DX, Edge and Orton will captain their respective teams and continue their program...but you also have the IC title storyline in there...not to mention the reuniting of the Hardy brothers. You have Matt and Gregory Helms' feud in the mix...not to mention some ECW action.
I just mentioned in my Cyber Sunday 'work' article that people like The Sandman could use some more TV time not necessarily specific to ECW. I don't think putting "Raw" and "SmackDown!" guys on ECW will really help that brand get over. I think putting ECW guys in WWE arenas will draw more attention to them. Having ECW stars in a Survivor Series match involving WWE Superstars is brilliant! The possibilities here are endless.
Just because I've marked out so hard at this announcement, I'm even loving the fact that WWE has made it official that for the first time in history, ALL Survivor Series matchups will be announced online with one match promised to be announced on a daily basis. Talk about promoting your website!
I sincerely hope that I'm not jumping the gun and that the rest of the card is similar to this first announced match. 5 on 5's all night baby! Mix up all the brands. Make us proud. I've practically forgotten all about this week's shitty "Raw".
All hail the return of the REAL Survivor Series!

Here Here...
I loved the original Survivor Series concept ... and think of this.. there is a whole GENERATION of wrestling fans that don't know anything about the original format for this show. The name of the PPV means nothing to them... no more than "No Mercy" or "Unforgiven".
My fav Survivor Series - other than the one I attended in Montreal when Bret got screwed - was when Team Visionaries, led by Rick Martel won their survivor series match without one man being eliminated.
Back then, Surviving members of the team moved on to a final main event match ... Heels versus Babys... freakin' awesome.
Survivor Series matches being announced online is awesome, because if they use the gimmick the way it was intended these matches DO NOT need to be storyline driven........
CM Punk has no history with Edge or Orton ... but I guarantee you they'll have awesome moments when they're in there together!
Announced today:
John Cena, Kane, RVD, Bobby Lashley & Sabu VS. Big Show, MVP, Finlay, Umaga & Test!
This is gonna be the best Survivor Series in years.
Let's say this much for Hunter... ever since his return, just prior to wrestlemania, he has not been the egomaniacal booker the IWC has him made out to be.
He has more pinfall loses in the last year that he did the 3 previous.
He's not afraid to put someone over if it's good for business.
Personally, I think this could be the night DX splits.
The gimmick has once again run it's course, and Shawn needs to take time off... maybe some in-ring confusion gets the two on each others case, causing one to be eliminated. That guy then helps the heel team eliminate the remaining DX soldier, leaving the young guns to shine.
