Bound For Glory: Red Hot, Finished Flat

Tonight's TNA pay per view was pretty freakin' solid. It started with an outstanding X-Division Gauntlet match and went from there...

Samoa Joe was awesome as usual, even in his understated role. Jake "The Snake" Roberts got us to pop by DDT'ing Raven. Eric Young retained his job by shutting the doors on Larry Land. Christian Cage turned Rhino's home town crowd against him and continued his rise to the top. The LAX are back on top of the tag scene in TNA after a sick Six Sides of Steel Match. Senshi and Sabin tore the house down with a 4 and a half star X-Division match that saw Sabin claim his third title. Not to mention, Kurt Angle was there...

Sounds like an AWESOME show right? It was. Until the main event.

It all started with Sting's entrance. TNA promised a transformation. All we got was Sting's NWO Wolfpac ring gear, a Liberace lookin robe and his white and black face paint with a couple streaks of red. Big deal right? Well Mike Tenay marked out like it meant something. (Quick sidebar - Tenay and West were ESPECIALLY horrible tonight... Kevin Nash on commentary during the Gauntlet was gold).

The main event itself wasn't a horrible match. It was okay. But to me, that's a problem. You just had a whole bunch of REALLY good matches. Not one mediocre match in the bunch. Then comes the main event.... the match that sells the show. The match everything builds towards. And it was just... okay.

It felt really slow, and plodding. The most exciting part was when guest enforcer Kurt Angle Olympic slammed the ref, preventing him from counting out both opponents. I don't remember why they were both out - but I'm pretty sure they were both just tired and needed a nap.

Angle then became the ref for the remainder of the match, and called for the bell when Jarrett tapped to the Scorpion Death Lock (or Sharpshooter to you Hitman marks).

Yes folks.. Sting is the new NWA champion. Ho hum.

Quick results:

- Austin Starr won the X-Division gauntlet match.
- Samoa Joe defeated Abyss, Raven and Runt in the Monster's Ball
- Team 3D won the four corners tag team challenge defeating The James Gang, The Naturals and AMW
- Eric Young pinned Larry Zybysco after using Larry's brass knuckle-like foreign object
- Chris Sabin defeated Senshi to win the X-Division championship for the third time
- Christian Cage defeated Rhino in a street fight that was only on the streets for about 3 minutes. Solid hardcore match.
- The LAX defeated Daniels and Styles to win the tag team titles for the second time. AWESOME match full of sick spots.
- Sting defeated Jeff Jarrett to win the NWA World title.

Damn Bigdaddy you jumped the gun, I was hoping to review this one from the motor city. I had a blast their representing thaoshow in spirit. I gotta tell you though, the hometown fans didn't turn on Rhyno--- Before the PPV we had a nationality roll-call and the best seats in the house were bought out by the canucks. The first five rows was little Toronto. Us Michiganders (myself included) had the cheap seats.

Last night was the first TNA PPV I had ever seen, and I am definitely hooked now. I thought at first that Angle wasn't going to play much of a role in the championship match, but about halfway through, after he hit the ref with the Olympic Slam (side note: I'm glad they're calling it this again), I marked out and figured he would play some role in who won. As much as no-selling bothers me, I was glad to see Sting no-sell the guitar shot; it's about time one of Jarrett's matches wasn't decided by flimsy balsa wood. Also marked out when Jarrett hit the ankle lock, and when Sting shoved the bat at Angle; both times, I thought Angle was going to go berserk. I suppose having Angle involved did add a dimension to the match that made it more entertaining than it would have been otherwise.

As for the rest of the event, it was amazing. Even the shortest match of the night entertaining. Young was hilarious as always in his backstage promo, and those chants of "Don't fire Eric!" are amazingly catchy. Best match of the night was no doubt Six Sides of Steel. The three man powerbomb/suplex followed up by AJ's cross body has my vote for "O" of the year. Hernandez going up to the top of the cage was an "O" moment waiting to happen; it would have been had he stuck the missed landing better(anyone else have visions of Sid run through their head when he landed like that?).

Overall, very "O" show.

Baron... were you rockin an O show shirt or a sign????

I had the crudest O show sign you could have imagined. Black sharpy on White posterboard. I was hoping like all get-out that they'd have shown it. I was sure I got it on during the opening few minutes, but it was hard to tell if the swinging camera was facing you or opposite you.

I think too many people expect WAY TOO MUCH!!! The BFG ppv was spectacular... even with Zach Gowen and the midget it was still better than any single branded WWE ppv we've seen in a long time... Sting's liberace coat was the first jacket he ever had... so it does have some old school value... i understand criticism comes with the territory but dont rain on everyones parade... just say it was a great PPV... TNA is going to push pro wrestling in a better direction... this PPV was a definite sign of it... and leave it at that...

I can't say much for the first few matches as I was at work, but I was able to come into the PPV at the beginning of the Monster's Ball match.

I thought the Senshi/Sabin match was the best of the event (from the matches I got to see).

Christian was gold during the "non" 8-Mile Street Fight. Especially the ending...seeing all the debris piled up on top of Rhino reminded me of Public Enemy being buried underneath dozens and dozens of chairs while in ECW.

LAX/Daniels & Styles was sick. Hernandez missing the dive from the top of the cage was sick...the way he landed didn't look too good either.

Best pop of the night, at least for me was seeing (thanks to the marvels of recording the PPV onto dvd) James Storm saying that AMW was the new "border patrol" and that he was sorry about your damn luck towards LAX. Guess there's a face turn in store for AMW.

I think you are pretty off on the Sting thing. He wasn't wearing his Wolfpac gear, he was combining the old look Sting with the Crow Sting.

To me, the look is something different and could work. I thought Sting looked pretty good in the ring. Jarrett wasn't exactly tearing it up. But, the match was never destined to be a 5 star classic. It was good for what it was, and to follow up Six Sides of Steel?? LOL. Good luck.

TNA put on a solid show. I think we should be satisfied with what was there.
