Hughes exacts his revenge

Last night, the live crowd at the Arrowhead Pond Arena in Anaheim, California, as well as millions watching on pay per view, were treated to a classic.

What a great story.

The last time Matt Hughes lost a fight, was on January 31st 2004. It was UFC 46. The man who beat him, was BJ Penn.

Fast forward to September 23rd 2006, and Penn is once again standing across the Octagon from Hughes. This time, things went a little differently.

Hughes was a victim of a tap out late in the first round in their first fight. Last night, the current reigning and defending Welterweight Champion pounded Penn's face into pudding until the referee stopped the fight.

At 3:53 of the third round, Hughes silenced all his critics.

He has defeated everyone the UFC has thrown at him.

He beat Frank Trigg (twice), Toronto's own Carlos Newton (twice), Sean Sherk, Georges St. Pierre and even the legendary Royce Gracie.

Once his groin injury heels, GSP will get his second crack at the champ, and Hughes will undoubtedly be ready for him.

Other results from last night's show:

  • Tyson Griffin def. David Lee via Rear Naked Choke at 1:50 of Round 1.
  • Jorge Gurgel def. Danny Abbadi via Split Decision after 3 Rounds.
  • Eddie Sanchez def. Mario Neto via KO (punch) at 0:21 of Round 2.
  • Roger Huerta def. Jason Dent via Unanimous Decision after 3 Rounds.
  • Joe Lauzon def. Jens Pulver via TKO (punch) at 0:48 of Round 1.
  • Rashad Evans def. Jason Lambert via KO (strikes) at 2:22 of Round 2.
  • Melvin Guillard def. Gabe Ruediger via KO (punch) at 1:01 of Round 2.
  • Mike Swick def. David Loiseau via Unanimous Decision after 3 Rounds.

are you fucken kidding???
boxing is a dead sport. the only people who like boxing are my dads age and older.

boxing has plenty in common with wrestling cuz it's totally fixed. it has nothing in common with mma.

mma may not have lots in common, but certainly has similar audience groups.
