Bash Aftermath

No shortage of news for a Monday afternoon following The Great American Bash.

Members of the Smackdown roster are dropping like flies. This past week Mark Henry went down with an injury, while both The Great Khali and Bobby Lashley were deactivated due to liver problems. Add a third member to team elevated enzymes. Super Crazy was scheduled to face Gregory Helns for the cruiserweight title, but has been deactivated with liver trouble.

As if that's not bad enough, Kid Kash has been indefinately suspended after failing a drug test.

Because the roster has suddenly become thinner than Tha O Show's profit margins, David Finlay is about to be turned babyface. You can expect Little Bastard to play a major role in the switch.

Ken Kennedy did NOT blade last night. He was split open very badly after "The Animal" smashed his head into the corner of the steel ring steps.

When he was examined in the locker room following the match, he was found to have a severe laceration of the scalp that exposed his cranium. WWE physician, Dr. Ferdinand Rios said that Kennedy needed more than 20 stitches to close the wound. Mr. Kennedy is not expected to miss any ring time.

One final note... Dan-e-o, you may want to sit down for this: Your girl, Kristal Marshall was injured last night in the bra and panties match and sent to hospital. There is no word at this time on the seriousness of the injury or even what it is exactly. More on this as it becomes available.

What the hell is up with this? Bye, bye Smackdown hello Velocity

The indefinet suspension of Kid Kash really suprises me. I guess this means a new "tag team" will have to be formed if the team of London/Kendrick is to be believed.

Finlay being turned face? Please tell me the Little Bastard will have something to do with this.

Props to Mr. Kennedy for taking it the hard way. I was going to make a joke about Batista becoming Mark Henry...oh wait, I guess I just did.

Well as far as his nonecw title defenses I am kind of interested in the concept of an extreme kane.

Big Daddy Donnie said...

Batista = propped up, non dues paying, greener that grass, gassed up, uncharasimatic gorilla, completely incapable of cutting a promo.

You talkin to me?
ugh.

Big Daddy Donnie said...

Batista was supposed to be take Lesnar's spot. Batista isn't a fraction of the wrestler / entertainer Lesnar was / could be again.

signguy, thats the best idea right now. The brand extension used to be required when the WWE bought out ECW and WCW contracts and had more talent than God. They needed the two brands. But now after they let some grade a players slip to TNA, fired some, let some get injured or drugged up, and let a whole lot fade into obscurity - its time to remerge them. Make a tighter, more congruent show with two times the HHH. There wouldnt be a need to promote ppv's on ECW, you'd be able to showcase talent against a variety of opponents, and with larger reserves of talent the WWE could afford to take chances, have a more vibrant tag division. The only problem is if RAW and SMACKDOWN merged... say GOODBYE to the cruiserweights

Now while we're on the topic of fixing Smackdown I figured I might as well give my thoughts on how to turn the dying brand around.

1st: SMACKDOWN IS JERICHO
The number one thing smackdown is devoid of, is charismatic figures. The ring is left without electricity as these characters banter about who is going to defeat who in the next wrestling match. SNORE. Chris Jericho would be a godsend to this promotion bringing catchphrases, flair, and imagination to an otherwise dead promotion. Not to mention Jericho would provide the perfect foil for King Booker and his court. Give Jericho an offer he can't refuse... JUST FOR THE LOVE OF GOD GET HIM BACK!

2nd: MRRRRRR KENNEDY
Kennedy is a constantly wired, confusing, and electric individual. This guy is the total package, all he needs is to avoid the temptation of being pushed too fast and find a few good rivals (easier said than done on smackdown) He could easily be the next heel Rock if they let him. With his deranged expressions and confounding lines, he should always be on screen, harassing other wrestlers, interviewers, announcers, hotdog venders, and the fans themselves...........................................................................kennedy

3rd: One oaf per hour!
Ever wonder why Smackdown seems to plod along at such a slow pace? Look at the roster. WWE has Batista, Lashley, Henry, Khali, Taker, and Vito-- and barring Taker they all get air time. Sometimes one after the other. If you intend on forcing lumbering giants down our throats please, make them run or something. Or here's a thought, put a good speaker, humorous segment, or fast paced match in between to break up the monotony of it all.

4th: Paul Birchill and Tatanka
For crying out loud we could watch a Pirate fight an Indian and they aren't doing it?!?!? FOR SHAME!
5th: He's going to the top rope... wait, wait, no he's not!
If you're going to have a cruiserweight division have it. If not then let these guys go to TNA where they belong. I'm tired of the cruiserweights imitating the bigger stars... PUNCH... PUNCH... PUNCH... PUNCH... (back and forth punching with one overpowering the other) PUNCH... PUNCH... PUNCH... wrestling move... PIN ATTEMPT... KICK OUT AT 3... PUNCH ect ect ect.
Let them amaze us with their acrobatics and high flying maneuvers. And showcase it. Make the Cruiserweight title something important, rather than some every other week freak show. Right now theres 5 maybe 6 cruiserweights and at least half are in tag teams. Get some more small guys and let them show there stuff... or quit holding them back.
6th: Pick up some names
Name wrestlers are dropping like flies and TNA's roster is beginning to look like a hall-of-fame in the making. It's time to swallow some of your pride and pick up a few recognizable names regardless of experience to freshen up a dead roster, here's a few options
D-Lo Brown - sure he caused drozdovs career to end, but the guy is still useful and can have a good match with types like supercrazy and kennedy.
Mike Awesome - For weeks Smackdown has used ECW to promote it's storylines... well wouldn't it be interesting to create a little heat with Awesome on the roster. Also this time make him useful, powerful, and not let him job to Funaki k?
Kanyon - who bettah?
Steve Blackman
probably wouldnt work with a martial artist on the show but damn they gotta do something
Maven
see above
Sean O'Haire
His dark persona could have worked, and he gets good pops wherever he goes. He's got the look and could potentially have good rivalries with the Undertaker and Boogeyman. They say Khali is the greatest of Undertaker's foes, but the Undertaker's best enemies arent ones who can outmuscle him, theyre ones who can outthink him and O'Haire has that possibility. Give him a NEW ministry of darkness with Mortis and Gangrel and you've got something going
A Von Erich
I don't care who, just get one. There's like a million of those guys running around!
Lance Storm
Sure in a place with little or no charisma, why add Lance Storm? Well he adds IN RING capabilities and can put on a good match with ANYONE!
Sorry bout the rant, anyone else with some thoughts on how to save Smackdown?

I don't know how anyone can be suprised at Kid Kash's suspension. I was suprised at his signing. Kash is, was, and will always be a lockerroom cancer anywhere he goes.

And the dude came out as a piss poor Kid Rock ripoff.

Newsflash, Kid Rock and Kid Kash both suck. Fire the douchebag, and find someone new to be a pitbull with Noble.

Big Daddy Donnie said...

I agree with Tom on Kash. I was SHOCKED they signed him. Guy's been trouble everywhere he's been. The Shea Hillenbrand of wrestling.

WW - there are other Von Erichs. Kevin is the only one of Fritz's boys... but there are offspring. None of which I'm afraid are ready for the business.

Baron: In one sentence you want to limit the oafs and in the next sentence you want O'Haire back!! If Darkside reads this he's gonna smack me. O'Haire HAD some potential, but I saw him work an indy show about a year ago and he was trying to be Test, Batista, Big Show light.

Funny, you complain about the oafs, and another one just debuted for Smackdown - Sylvester Terkay.... (Jerry Jarrett's boy).

I'm down for bringing back D'Lo because I like him - but he's not going to make any money for smackdown.

Who is going to WANT to wrestle Mike Awesome?? Unless he's doin the standard insanse Mike Awesome shit (like stiffly killing guys) he's useless. He was so handcuffed in his last WWE run because they didn't want him to work like a cruiser, they didn't want him to be stiff and nobody wanted to work him.

Tom's right on Kash, he IS just a Kid Rock wannabe. And Kid Rock is terrible. How many people can get away with singing (and i use that term loosly) about having a truck with a gold plow, a 40 foot danzy (sp?), and dated a supermodel then in another song say that "i aint seen mine" in reference to not getting what he deserved. Well he's right, but only in an ironic way.

Thats terribly disappointing about O'Haire. I mean he used to be at the large end of the medium sized guys (ppl whom I'd consider large anyways) but he seemed quick in the ring. Not the typical, "im going to dominate you with sheer power in every match" schtick that we're used to seeing.

And youre right about Awesome, no one would want to wrestle him and he's just another oaf if you dont let him do insane matches, which smackdown WONT do.

But smackdown DOES need established names. Anyone come to mind?

Tim Haught said...

Smackdown's answer isn't to bring in talent from outside the WWE.

There are no names left with any value that are worth their asking price.

As much as I love D-Lo Brown, and as much potential as I think Matt Morgan might have had, neither of these two will turn your brand around.

Yet you got Orton, Edge, and the McMahons competing for TV time on the same show.

Cena, Hogan, HBK, and Triple H, competing for time.

Why?

Why can't the WWE roster's be restructered. What makes Raw the place to be.

To be honest, for a long time, I have preferred Smackdown to Raw, because at least it's not the same old shit all the time.

Still, Booker T, Rey Misterio, and Batista are the only full time big name talents on the brand.

Orton's discipline problems take him off Smackdown, on Raw, and in a feud with the greatest babyface champion of all time. BIG PUNISHMENT.

Let JBL and Taker hold wrestler court on that cocky son of a gun.

WWE dropped the ball on a lot of midcard talent that could be picking up some slack right now. Val Venis, Rob Conway, the Bashams, and Rene Dupree all should be doing more for the company. They shouldn't be enhancement talent, because they have the look, and the ability.

Well, WWE decided that they would go straight out the box with their developmental guys. In most cases, guys haven't been ready to step up. The ones who have haven't really become superstars on the level of Triple H, Rock, Austin, or Hogan. They are more around the level of Jericho, Benoit, Booker T and Guererro. Don't get me wrong, they are damned important, but not the giant cash cow Vince is looking for.

All WWE needs to do is effectively spread talent on their roster and push them appropriately.

DX being together hurts taking Shawn to Smackdown, but he seems like a great fit. Edge being the champ hurts, and Edge doesn't fit, so ship Orton back over there to continue his feud with Hogan.

Flair and Foley don't need to hash it out on Monday Nights per say.

If Johnny Nitro is coming to Raw because Melina's vag is too risque for UPN, send Shelton over to Smackdown.

What about Cade and Murdoch or the Spirit Squad making tag wrestling interesting on one brand, rather than having tag wrestling weak across two brands.

All Smackdown fans have to look forward to at the moment are default pushes for Psychosis and Vito.

Have a draft lottery...

The way WWE uses talent these days is like WCW in 97. I wouldn't be suprised if they have Leaping Lanny under contract, but don't know it.

Team Tom youre right on that, Raw does have an abundance of talent and Smackdown could afford more time to spread around. And I used to like Smackdown more too, back when Taker wrestled more often, when Hogan, Lesnar, and Angle were all on the show with Guerrero, Booker T, Edge, and a much more likable heel Cena.

Big Daddy Donnie said...

There's ONE "marquee name" out there that would give Smackdown's ratings a shot in the ass, and would make a lot of money for the brand.

Lesnar.

I know smarks and marks alike soured on him when he bounced, but remember - in 2003, MANY within the industry were sayin he was on his way to a hall of fame career and being known as a breakthrough wrestler. A muscleman that could actually WRESTLE, bump, work in a few high spots, tons of athleticism.... let's face it - Lesnar had it all. I saw some video of him on YouTube from IWGP late last year and he looks as good as ever.

Problem is: Brock hates Vince. Vince hates Brock. Stranger things have happened though.

Anonymous said...

Yes...there is more than one Von Erich left. Like Big Daddy said, Kevin is the only one of Fritz's bloodline left. But I hear that for $20, Kevin will let you become a "Von Erich".

Here's an idea for Smackdown...take some of the big draws from RAW and put them over there. Smackdown, even at full capacity, lacks big names.

Brock coming back isn't too far off. Simon Inoki just stripped the title from him because of some incident (that i'm still trying to find out) in Japan. But yes. Brock hates Vince, vice versa, stranger things have happened. Like Vince buying WCW, Steve Austin and Eric Bischoff working an angle together without it ending with Austin in jail for murder, and seeing Ric Flair wrestling for the ECW world title.

watch, those guys would be FAR better suited for WWECW than smackdown, and I dont think Lesnar is going to work. When Lesnar was successful, he faced CENA, ANGLE, BIG SHOW, HOGAN, & TAKER... tell me, which of them is wrestling regularly on that show now? How many guys are on that show who can convincingly compete against a man of his speed, agility, size, and strength. Anyone? I mean sure, sure, you can have him take on Batista. Get ready for Lesnar/Goldberg II.

Thats why I think they need a guy like Jericho. Sure he wouldn't mean big money, but entertainment value would be up immensely, and he can sell a match with ANYONE!

If you need some indy wrestlers to bring up, I do have some suggestions though theyre kind of obscure. Keep in mind most would work better in ECW:

1: Eddie Venom - young up and comer who fought in a 3-way dance with Rhyno and Monty Brown

2: Truth Martini - Great highflyer who trained Zach Gowen. Okay Okay, if that turns you off he also trained Alex Shelly. (whom I used to play basketball with btw)

3: Slyk Wagner Brown - TOTAL PACKAGE ALL AROUND... could improve ANY promotion

4: Doug Williams
5: Mike Modest
6: Jimmy Rave
7: Dragon Kid
8: Nigel McGuiness
9: Ace Steel
10: Even Colder Mike Austin

I received word yesterday, that the WWE is considering a contract offer to Teddy Hart to beef up Smackdown...........

More on this as it comes..

Anonymous said...

If that is indeed true...Teddy Hart's stay in the WWE will be about as long as AJ Styles' run in WCW...just long enough for a cup of coffee.

Teddy Hart is an obnoxious son of a bitch who should've been beat a little bit harder in the dungeon while Stu (God bless his soul) was still alive & kickin it. He's got talent. But he's also got his head so far up his ass, he makes Randy Orton look like a boy scout.

I like it! Good job. Go on.
