Tuesday Night Turmoil: Riddle Me This

WWE has no doubt stepped it up in recent weeks, but not even Barry Bonds can bat 1000 with all the HGH and gas in the world. Some things make you wonder and others make you sit back and enjoy the show. WWE is pretty good at getting both those reactions out of their shows. Sometimes though the wondering isn’t the cliff-hanger wondering.

The ECW talent initiative or whatever Teddy Long called it continues. While I know ECW is nothing more than FCW with an HD set, I'd rather not have them make it an oversaturated roster of new guys to go over on Armando Estrada. I also don’t think there is any reason to continue the feud between Hornswoggle and Finlay and MnM. I just don’t see anyone taking Hornswoggle seriously.

I have tons of respect for the work the Hornswoggle does and can do, but with the DX super soaker angle from ’98 I’m just wondering who is going to take that seriously. He’s a grown man who happens to be a midget, he’s not ten. I guess the E is trying to subliminally plant the Attitude Era back into our heads with Super Soakers. Watch out for a Zamboni and a Corvette getting filled with cement too.

The upcoming Great American Bash is going with a new theme. The Bash in the title is filled with a comic style background which made my tag team partner Christopher Casur think of the ultra-campy 1960’s Adam West and Burt Ward Batman series. I completely understand that, so in the spirit of that, I have a few Frank Gorshin style riddles for you.

What was once stale but is now only bland? Braden Walker! I hate to be this way because I had high hopes for Chris Harris, but what in God’s name is that noise he comes out to? That’s not music that’s nails on a chalkboard. Also, in a company that has produced some of the most elaborate ring gear in wrestling history he is sent to the ring wearing that. Whoever is responsible for that should be fired no questions asked.

Chris Harris is talented. He’s not a five star worker, but I certainly could see him excelling in WWE. I know that Vince has a history of not pushing what he didn’t create, but from the knock-knock joke when he showed up all the way to the botched finish made me want to turn the channel. That was bad, and I can’t solely blame Braden Walker.

Riddle #2, what’s red, white, blue and green all over? Tony Atlas’ ring introduction skills. Come on Mr. U.S.A instead of being the Black Superman you were the black Mike Adamle. Saba Simba may have done better, but either way Silsville Texas doesn’t exist, but Silsbee does. Also did we need to hear two versions of Mark Henry’s twelve year old title? Strongest man in the world, world’s strongest man, Mark Henry, but I did love that he announced Henry as the winner even though he wasn’t.

There were however several positives to ECW this week. The Matt Hardy piece was well done and it just adds to the fact that he is or is going to be one of their centerpieces. He’ll continue his work on “SmackDown” as long as he’s US Champ, but I do see him getting a run with the ECW Championship.

Evan Bourne needs to be on TV. I hate the name and wish Vince didn’t need to own everything so I could talk about Matt Sydal without some ridiculous kayfabe name, but dude can go. He has spot-monkey flashes, but he is also a talented worker. His shooting star press is one of the best in the business and I’m glad that they lifted the ban on the move.

Even though I poked fun at Tony Atlas earlier, I do think that what happened in the main event can go somewhere. I didn’t see it coming though the opportunity was obviously there. This could have been a one shot for Tony, but it’s doubtful with the heel turn and the fact that he has a book coming out. I wouldn’t mind seeing Henry and Atlas paired together for an extended amount of time.

With new faces and old faces all in the mix you have the potential for something very good. You incorporate legends that an older audience would tune in to see, they also by default see the new faces and could very well become intrigued by what they see and keep watching even when those old faces depart again.

I’m not saying Mark Henry and Tony Atlas will be some kind of cash cow and ratings booster, but if they keep going down that road and throwing different things into the mix people will take notice and they’ll keep watching just to see what happens next.

Tha Results…
*Finlay def. the Miz
*Braden Walker def. Armando Estrada
*Evan Bourne def. Nunzio
*Mark Henry/Tommy Dreamer ended in Double-Countout

The ECW talent initiative by Teddy Long i think will end with the return of D-Lo Brown

yesssir!! cant wait for the retrn of D-Lo. He worked a dark match Moonday w/ London vs Tema Priceless. Heard that D-Lo got a pretty good pop!

I dont think they'll use the new talent thing to bring in D-Lo. It wouldnt work, because most of the fans are already familiar with him. I think this is more of a vehicle to pull in guys that've been training in FCW and are ready to move up. I'm actually a bit surprised that the used it on Chris Harris, but i suppose most fed fans arent familiar with him from his TNA work. Lets just hope that next week's guy is Cabanarama.

Also, I read somewhere that Ron Killings was getting primed for a main event push on Smackdown already, so his debut is probably also going to be bigger than the new talent initiative.

Considering Atlas Ortiz changed his name to Ricky Ortiz, I could see Tony Atlas sticking around for a while.

Where the hell is Elijah Burke?

Hardy is bound to drop the US title soon, back to Smackdown, I see him challenging Henry at Summerslam.

I'd like to see a TV title or something similar on ECW. I know many people think there are too many titles within WWE as is, especially two tag and women's titles. Think back to the old NWA days,
Six-man tag title
World TV Title
National tv title
Brass Knuckles Championship
Women's tag team title
World midget championship
Independent World Hvywt title
Intercontinental tag team
North American Tag
US Tag
not to mention all the regional titles

I doubt D'Lo to be the newest member of the roster. He and Paul London worked as a tag team on the "Raw" dark match. Could become a full time thing.

I agree Ecw needs a secondary title. They have a ton of guys who aren't in the title picture so bring in a title for them to fight over. It can either be the old Ecw Tv title or unhitch the Euro belt from the IC belt and bring it back. Then you would have the IC belt on raw the Euro belt on Ecw and US on smackdown once Hardy drops it for better things.

I agree ECW needs another title. It could keep a World Champion and he could defend rarely on television and always on PPV's so why not bring back the ECW TV title? It's got history and most people remember it. Talk about RVD's 23 months with it people will take notice.

If they were to bring back the ECW TV Title, Dreamer would be an excellent way to get the title over. A mid-size reign followed by a Delaney heel turn would be sweet.
