Extreme Edition

Get rid of the mentality that ECW sucks. Stop complaining that the name is a disrespect to the original ECW. Sure, maybe Tuesday nights are treated as the minor leagues of WWE, but speaking as a guy who lives in a town with a minor league team, just because it's not considered the pros doesn't mean it's not just as good, if not better.

ECW has put out a solid showing consistently for quite some time now. New superstars are getting a chance to shine, feuds are being built, and ECW is putting out a strong case to be the A show on WWE right now.

Mark Henry as the champion, as I said before, is something I'm down with. Sure, I'd be willing to bet that the decision to put the belt on him had racial overtones to it, but he's done a great job as a monster heel champion. Much like Awesome Kong, he's believable as a monster, which lends credibility to his title run. That new belt is ugly as shit, though.

Colin Delaney showed that he had more personality than just being left squashed on the mat last night. Big up to Skitlez who mentioned in a comment on "Tha Raw Report" that WWE should begin to bring stables back, as it seems that with Tony Atlas and Colin Delaney in tow, they're doing just that. Hopefully a name will be given to the collection faction before too long so that I don't have to call them "The World's Strongest Man, The World's Most Redundant Man, and The World's Skinniest Man".

Of course, after Delaney berated Dreamer, he immediately faced him in a match, which Dreamer won. Given the main event, this was probably a one-off, so I have no beef with Dreamer going over, and in lieu of the fact that Atlas and Henry didn't help Delaney during the match, I'm sure this will lead to some sort of angle where Delaney tries to prove himself to Henry, much like the Scott Steiner/Petey Williams angle in TNA from earlier this year.

Evan Bourne is the man. WWE has too many titles as it is, but some O-sters have suggested the inception of a new title, specifically on ECW, akin to a Television Championship. If that happened, Bourne is a guy I'd like to see in the forefront of that picture, but as I've said before, I'm not too concerned about creating new titles, as I'm sure that with the talent and charisma this guy has, he'll be used in ECW's main event picture before too long.

I have no way to cleverly transition into this, but that'll happen now and then. Bring back Kerwin White! Chavo Guerrero is stale and bland, at least the White character gave him something to work with in terms of a gimmick, because right now he's got nothing to make him appealing. And yes, a golf cart would fix that.

I alluded earlier to the main event, which was a Fatal Four Way featuring Finlay, John Morrison, The Miz, and Matt Hardy, in which the winner earned a title shot at SummerSlam. I think this was good booking on their part, as three of these guys are great workers who could plausibly carry the ball on Tuesday nights. And there was also The Miz, who chicks and Dan-e-o apparently dig.

In all fairness to JBL's favorite "jackass with a Terry Taylor starter kit", he held his own in the match, specifically in terms of teasing tension between he and John Morrison. I know they've been doing that on and off for several months now, but it's still good to see that they can tell that story. When they eventually split as a team, I'd rather see them go off separate ways and stay heels, but I definitely want to see Miz remain a heel, because nobody bought him as a face back in 2006.

With Matt Hardy having lost the United States Championship this past Sunday, many people thought it would be only a matter of time before he found himself in this position. It happened much quicker than I thought it would, but that's not a bad thing. Hardy is remarkably over, and is a legitimate, proven draw. He'll do just fine in the main event on Tuesday nights, and although I don't think he goes over at SummerSlam, I do see him holding the belt eventually.

Tha Results:
*Tommy Dreamer def. Colin Delaney
*Evan Bourne def. James Curtis
*Matt Hardy def. John Morrison, The Miz, and Finlay to become Number One Contender for ECW Championship

It was a good show, I was actually digging James Curtis, he looks like he could be useful in various angles. I also like the new title a lot more than the original ECW title, which looked like mid-card title. And the fact that it's silver, not gold, shows that ECW is the 3rd brand, rather than trying to hide that fact. I'm curious as to how the Matt vs Henry thing will play out, can Matt actually beat Mark Henry, will be something to see.

Matt Hardy has just been positioned beautifully. I will say for the record he will most likely NOT win at SummerSlam because Matt Hardy is the king of the old school title chase. Think back Randy Orton lost the WWE Intercontinental Championship at Vengeance to Edge in 2004 and at SummerSlam two months later he dropped Chris Benoit to become the World Heavyweight Champion. Matt Hardy lost the WWE United States Championship at the Great American Bash and two months later at Unforgiven he will win the ECW Championship. I know the World and ECW belts aren't equivalent, but the thing is he will be that show's #1 guy and as Tony Atlas says, he will be the Champiuh. It also puts Shelton Benjamin in a great position, but that's a piece for another show.

Delaney is fucked, the most coming between him and Henry is a brushoff next week leaving him a lonely, scrawny, no-heat heel. If he doesn't lose his job he'll be nothing more than a jobber for faces, and for god-sakes if he does keep his job he should buy some new gear.

That 4-way last night was better than 4 or 5 of the 7 matches at the GAB (and GAB was mostly solid in my eyes). Damn good performance from each of the guys, yes even the Miz.
