Drop The Toe Hold!

I want it back. Some promotions are bold enough to allow their wrestlers to do it. Sometimes they do it through tables. Sometimes on the arena floor.

Yes, my fellow O-ster’s, I’m talking about the Piledriver. After a series in injuries suffered by wrestlers the move was officially banned in the WWE except for special cases (The Undertaker because you know that ain’t taking shit from him).

Back in the day you couldn’t even clothesline anyone over the top rope in the NWA. Of course we all know that goofy ass rule is gone. Funny how something like a piledriver can not be allowed but flying from the top of a cage is gladly accepted. Fighting a match in a ring surrounded by fire?

Okay. TLC match? Groovy. Money In The Bank matches? Fine. Being out through barbed wire wrapped table? Sure. But put another man’s head between your legs and sit down? Oh, no, no, no. You might hurt somebody!

Why is it that the simplest moves are the ones that get you? I’ve been DDT’d and jumped from roofs but nothing fucked me up more than being Whoopie Cushioned by a jackass. I saw stars and went to sleep for a few hours. Think of some of the worst injuries you’ve seen in wrestling. I’m talking about worse as in visually and long term damage wise. Sid Justice’s (Psycho Sid) fucked his leg up doing a leg drop from the second rope. HHH tore his quads taking a step. Kevin Nash and Vince McMahon tore theirs just stepping through the ropes. Moose just recently broke her femur jumping.
Jumping from the tops of cages doesn’t kill anyone. Shooting Star Presses and 450 Splashes don’t kill anyone. Like the band Bush once said: “It’s the little things that kill.”

Years ago the WWE tried to stop the use of high flying moves in an effort to slow down (because it’s impossible to stop completely) injuries. One thing that’s funny (not ha-ha funny) is that when you make people overly cautious they tend to make mistakes. Guys started using more ground based moves in the WWE so when fools were flying off of six sided rings we all “ooh’d” and “aah’d” like a bunch of Smurfs. But even that got old after a while. But I need to be careful Bitching about moves will make them have guys talking more and more.

What I’m afraid of is more people getting hurt either being too careful or from trying to top the next guy (or as Donnie says “Get their shit in”) and hurting their opponent or themselves. Is there a safe solution to wrestler’s injuries? More time off perhaps? A better job security so that when they’re hurt they speak up? Tell me because I’m having a hard ass time trying to figure it out.

I too think it's all really strange. Take Jeff Hardy for example, this man has never, ever, suffered a serious injury (not even something to keep him out a week) as a result of wrestling, and we all see the things he does.

I don't think there is a solution (fan perspective) because as you pointed out, a lot of them happen so random. How can anyone explain how Jeff Hardy has never been injured?

Jeff is that crazy ass exception to the rule. He's one of the guys that will keep others trying crazy shit because "Well, Jeff doesn't get hurt so..." I'm actually trying to sit here and recall when he has ever bled and I can't. Then you have guys that get hurt when they move (The Shaminal and Mark "Oh!" Henry). It all makes no sense.

Hardy has been hurt ... that long absence he had from the fed - before TNA he was healing. And he's missed lots of house shows because of injuries.

He's also had time off due to suspensions to heal!

And remember most of his big bumps are very safe not dumb like the move Kaz did on PPV.

Seems like the injuries are caused by guys juicing and/or doing to much weight training instead of stretches and cardio. If you're just trained to lift, the little things will get you. Think NFL lineman.

Skitlez-
That's why any personal trainer who is worth his salt will include stretching and cardio into a workout plan.

Jeff Hardy has never had a serious injury as a result of prowrestling, he said so himself in the Twist of Faith DVD.

In fact, the only time he's actually broken a bone in his life was from motorcross.

Exactly Casur, but a lot don't. These guys just want to build show muscles, so they do 3 reps of 350 instead of 20 of 245. They look good but there muscles can't handle the stress.

This makes me remember something Booker T said a few years back. This was before he beat Batista's ass by the way. Booker was interviewed and he was talking about not being huge, and also being flexible. He mentioned by name Dave Batista. He said that Batista pie faced a guy and tore a muscle. He said that was the problem, these guys were all jacked up, but it was nothing but big muscles with no flexibility.
