Career Homicide

What do they want from me? That’s a question that I ask myself when I hear a wrestler talk about fans. Of course, the usually wrestler is pissed off and talking shit about US fans in a bad way. This time it was Homicide “superstar” of TNA wrestling. He was quoted as saying:

“I love the UK, it will be my 10th time going out there and we got some great fans out there who appreciate wrestling. America is a joke when it comes to wrestling fans. I’m going to say it out loud.”

Really? Is that how you really feel? There is so much shit I can run with based on that one sentence.

He says he has been in the UK ten times. Of course they are going to behave differently. They don’t see you often. He’s not HBK. He isn’t going to receive a rousing ovation every time he steps into the ring. Fans of any sport tend to want stars more when they aren’t constantly in their faces. I think Homicide is okay. Not anything I would miss if he left the sport. He’ll be the answer to a trivia question in a year or two. When a wrestler says shit like this they just come off sounding bitter. He wrestles every week in the US in a spot that is America’s armpit. How could you base a fans reaction off of the Impact Zone? When speaking of “marks he had this to say.

“…not like the ones in the United States. Over here they deserve to get shanked. The UK fans are really great, they’re respectful. If you are a smart mark, be respectful.”

So am I to believe he expects nothing but praise for his and every wrestler’s work? Just sit there and shut up? Fuck off. Anyone that says that I should be stabbed, sorry, “shanked”, for believing what I believe needs to have their fucking shit pushed in. Why is it that wrestling fans are like the toilet bowl of sports fans? If you’re jocking a wrestler they’re your best friend. But call out a botched move online and watch how fast they turn on you. Two faced. That’s the perfect term to describe most angry wrestlers.

“We got good wrestling fans and we got smart marks who are bunch of idiots and dorks sitting at a computer and thinking they are better than a wrestler or a booker.”
And? What industry doesn’t have its detractors? So far in every article I have written I have tried to stay positive. It’s hard enough to be a fan of wrestling and stay positive without some broke down jackass calling you a “mark”, “smark”, or whatever new phrase catches on. Ask me, I think Homicide is a mark for himself. He bashes the internet fans who just happen to be the people who made him. He was in ROH doing his thing and getting over based on what fans online said about him. Bet he had no problem then. Samoa Joe, A.J Styles, and Low-Ki owe their careers to the fucking internet. If I hadn’t read about Homicide before seeing him on TNA I would’ve wondered “Who the hell is this midget?” Homicide is just there to me. Nothing to write home about. There are only three good things about him: Hernandez, Salina’s right tit, and Salina’s left tit. He has no original offense. A regular ass look. And zero personality. Yeah, we can blame TNA for that but they don’t tell him to go out there and make me not interested in him.

The fucked up thing is that Homicide will go to the next Impact! Taping and frown and act all hard and the fans will cheer for him like gluttons for punishment. I’ll just change the channel. Homicide doesn’t make me watch wrestling. Actually the opposite of his type of performer does. If anyone is a mark it’s him. He is a mark for himself. Dude, get over yourself, shut the fuck up, and wrestle. Leave the talking to us the fans, marks, smarks, and writers. When you’re gone we’ll still be here wondering “Who the fuck was that guy that used to roll with Konnan?” In ten years when people are wondering if there’ll ever be a LAX reunion show he’d better hope they remember who he is. I will because unlike the popular belief this wrestling fan has a long term memory. But in the scheme of things, he’ll mean as much to the business as Sonjay Dutt.

I doubt he's talking about the Impact Zone fans, because you never hear chants of "You f'd up" or anything smark related there (not even from live reports). So he has to be speaking of the fans of ROH/indy circuit. Now, I won't agree or disagree about his view of US fans, but I will say that a lot of them are the reason wrestling sucks to an extent, or at least being a fan of it does. Sure there are detractors in all sports, but only in wrestling will you find bashing of a wrestler/promotion without any credible facts to back up the argument. Like people who bash anything outside of their favorite promotion, obviously not understanding that unlike any other sport, wrestling needs as many alternatives as possible

I know for a fact that I enjoyed wrestling a lot more before I started going to sites on the internet (wasn't as knowledgeable as to what happen behind the scenes, but enjoyed what happen on screen more, I'll take that trade-off, ignorance is bliss, right?). Because when it comes to wrestling online, I feel like 90% of what you find is bashing, and 10% is constructive criticisms. If you listened to The O Show Radio Show this week, you heard BDD getting on Dan-E-O for complaining about the wrestlers on Raw wearing a T-shirt of the brand they represented. That type of stuff makes Homicide's argument seem really credible.

Is Homicide right about all US fans? No. But is Homicide on the right track about a large group of wrestling fans in general? Hell yes. We can do without the spoilers to the shows that don't air live, we can do without the "You f'd up" chants, and we can definitely do without this idea that one promotion is better than another, because wrestling is the one sport where fans should be happy to have multiple alternatives, as oppose to one major product (i.e. MLB, NFL, NHL, NBA).

Everyon knows Uk fans are big marks for wrestling. Im from uk and I prefere guys who work rather than a guy who can do 50 high spots i've seen before. Guys like Bobby Roode work their ass off where as sonjay dutt comes in and fans think he's cool because he does stunts which if he F'D up he could end his own career. To be honest Im not sure whether he's saying what he really thinks or whether he's sucking up to uk fans so they'll say, "Wow he thinks us UK fans are better than the ones in the US. Lets go to a TNA event and cheer him."

I think he's doing a halfassed form of future damage control. When he eventually leaves TNA he'll either go to the indy promotions or head to the UK. And then sit around praying for The E to notice him. How many people have we seen do that? Homicide is just an aggressive Sonjay. I mean, dude wrestles in the most southern part of the US and has the nerve to talk shit. It's just silly. He's not that big a star. He cant afford to shit on anyone.

I've read and heard bigger guys talk shit about fans. He just happened to get my goat because...it's Homicide! Who is he?! When was the last time anyone mentioned him when discussing the future of wrestling? When was the last time anyone said they'd stop watching wrestling if he retired? He gets over because of Hernandez, Selinas, and Eddie's fucking ghost.

It always amazes me when an athlete works so hard to shoot themselves in the foot. Homicide is a good worker, but I'll completely agree with Dante and say that he's nothing special. Hernandez is a completely different story as far as I'm concerned and is one of the main reasons for LAX's and homicides success... the other being Konnan before he left the company and was the voice of LAX.

It's just sad that some guys are Like Tim Hardaway and don't know when to shut the fuck up.
