Mike Shawn passed away on September 11th from a heart attack at the age of 53.
Many wrestling fans will remember him for his repulsive WWF character Bastion Booger, but the man behind that gimmick had a long history in the wrestling business.
Shaw started his career in Vancouver's All Star Wrestling under the name Klondike Mike. A yeat later he moved to a very deep roster in Stampede Wrestling as super heel Makhan Singh. He formed the stable Karachi Vice and had crazy feuds with Owen Hart and Brian Pillman.
Over the course of his career, Shaw moved to World Championship Wrestling as the crazed character Norman The Lunatic who evolved into a Maniac and a Trucker.
The WWF did what they often do, and turned him into an unmarketable laughing stock who many have mocked as one of the worst gimmicks of all time - the portly monk, Friar Ferguson. Public response to the character was very negative so they tweaked it to Bastion Bogger.
You may recall Booger had a brief feud with the late Bam Bam Bigelow where he fell in Bigelow`s manager, the recently departed Luna Vachon.
Shaw was much better than WWF fans probably realized. He was trained by the late great Walter "Killer" Kowalski.
Shaw was released by the WWE in 1994. He made his last television appearance in 2007 on the 15th anniversary of Raw.
Shaw is survived by his wife Kelly and their two children, son Joshua and daughter Amanda.
