Nickolye's SmackDown! Recap

CM Punk makes his way down to the ring, along with Luke Gallows. Gallows is wearing a Punk t-shirt while carrying Punk's Slammy to the ring with him. Punk: "By a show of hands, who here has made New Year's resolutions? You don't boo that, just raise your hand. How many people have broken your resolutions? How many of you foolishly told yourselves you were going to stop drinking?

New Year's resolutions are about making yourself a better person. I've never made them because I'm already better. I can help you. I can save you. Take what I've done to Luke, I can do for you. Tonight we're going to have a pledge. Stand up right now.

Everybody at home put your hand to the screen. Repeat after me: I, am tired, of wasting my life being a loser. I am tired of treating my body like a sewer. I am tired of not having the strength to just say no. In 2010 I will adhere to the straight-edge lifestyle. I will not smoke, I will drink, I will not do drugs. It's obvious to me you people don't know how to follow direction. Do not make me beat this into you.

I can and I will beat up everybody in this arena if that's what it takes to get through to you. My mind is clear unlike yours. You're probably still hung-over from the holidays. Next week I will save a lost soul from the audience, because I have heart. City by city, day by day, person by person my message will grow and spread.

You will realize I am not a threat, and the youth will come together as one straight-edge society. I will start it all off tonight by setting the winning time in Beat the Clock Challenge, and then at the Royal Rumble I will become 4-time straight-edge World Heavyweight Champion and I will destroy the Undertaker."

We come back with a promo for the January 4th episode of Monday Night Raw when Bret Hart makes his return, Kofi Kingston battles Randy Orton one more time, and DX defend the tag titles against Jeri-Show again in a rematch.

Backstage Chris Jericho is walking with a purpose to the ring for his part of the challenge for the break.

Jericho has a mic before he has his match. He says he is bigger than SmackDown, then goes on to say he and Big Show will defeat DX to be tag team champions again. "Not only will I be the face of SmackDown I'll also be the face of Raw. I'll be the face of ECW, Superstars, live events, pay-per-views and the entire company. My New Year's resolution will be to win every championship in the WWE.

And that will happen tonight when I defeat Rey Mysterio then beat the Undertaker to be the World Champion for the sixth time. So all of you lolly-gagging dullards need to learn I will be the omnipotent epicenter of the entire WWE Universe." Jericho argues with the ref then walks over to Rey, and Mysterio rolls him up for the win WITH 1 SECOND LEFT! WOW, great match!

WINNER w/ new time to beat: Rey Mysterio at 7:19.

Just another fantastic match between these two. Jericho and Mysterio really work well with each other in the ring. CM Punk holds his head in the locker room as Gallows looks on because Punk time has been beaten. There's still one more match in the challenge as Batista faces R-Truth and they now have a new time to beat, which is Mysterio's 7:19. Commercial break. We come back and see Mysterio sitting ringside waiting to observe the next match to see if anyone will beat his time.

* Beat the Clock Challenge: R-Truth vs. Batista

"New Jersey... WHAT'S UP? (What's up!)" Now we all know since Mysterio is sitting ringside watching Batista come out we know R-Truth has no chance of winning due to the rivalry of Rey and Dave. Batista gets in the ring and spots Rey at ringside. He flexes at the turnbuckle as we go to yet ANOTHER commercial break. Oh well, this should be the last since there is no point in having a break within seven minutes of a match.

The bell rings and Batista powers Truth to a corner. He punches him, whips him to the opposite corner and clotheslines him. He delivers shoulders to Truth midsection, then Truth moves out the way for a school boy. He hits a legdrop to the back of Batista's head for a two-count. Batista runs him over and stomps on him. He delivers a suplex for a two-count.

Batista goes for a powerslam but Truth escapes. Truth cartwheels away and does his split when he usually ducks a clothesline... but Batista didn't budge so he kicked Truth while he was in his split! Batista sets up for the powerbomb but Truth jumps out and sends Batista to the floor. He connects with the suicide dive, rolls him back in and Batista rams his shoulder into the ringpost while he's on the apron. Truth falls back to the floor so Batista sends him into the steel steps.

He drives Truth's shoulder to the post again and casually stomps on him. Under 3 minutes remain as Truth starts his comeback with punches and a dropkick. Truth runs into a spinning sidewalk slam for a near-fall. Batista goes to a corner, sets up for the spear but Truth countered it with a DDT. Truth hits the spinning axekick for a two-count. 90 seconds remain as Batista runs into to boots, then into the middle turnbuckle. Truth gets to the turnbuckle and Batista dodges the missile dropkick. SPEAR! Batista stares at Mysterio as he saunters around the ring. 30 seconds remain and he hits the Spinebuster.

20 seconds, and Batista hits the Batista Bomb with 10 seconds left. He makes the cover... and Rey pulls the referee out the ring to secure his time! 4... 3... 2... 1... BUZZER~! TIME'S UP! The time runs out and Rey runs up the ramp. Batista is fuming in the ring and he looks ready to explode as Rey celebrates at the top of the ramp! We replay the ending to see Mysterio's debauchery.

Uh-oh, here comes Vickie Guerrero. "Excuse me. Excuse me! Rey, Rey, Rey. I am so sorry. You see, here at SmackDown we all follow the rules. And it's clear as day that you just cheated Batista. You see, since we couldn't determine who was going to be Undertaker's opponent at the Royal Rumble event - and as official consultant - I'm advising you to take on Batista one-on-one next week to determine the true #1 contender." So next week we get another #1 Contender's Match between Rey Mysterio and Dave Batista.

I have a feeling it will either be Batista or it turns into a triple threat match at Royal Rumble. So that is how we end this week's show, and I'm not too excited about this episode because the Beat the Clock Challenge ended up worthless with no clear winner. Oh well, we'll see how the next couple of weeks shape up for the Royal Rumble.
