Killa Kev's UFC 107 Recap

Paul "the Headhunter" Buentello (27-10-0, 255 lbs) vs. Stefan "Skyscraper" Struve (18-3-0, 247 lbs)

Stevan Struve lives up to his moniker "Skyscreaper". He's a lean 6'11" tall 21 year-old fighter from the Netherlands with a background in Muay-Thai Kickboxing.

Buentello is a Texas resident who is a veteran fighter with heavy hands and 17 wins by submission. Buentello outweighs Struve by a few pounds, but Struve also has an 83" reach that Buentello will have to fight through, not to mention those long kickboxing legs.

Dan Murgliatta is our referee for the match as we start Round One. Struve thros a kick immediately to intimidate, but Buentello tryes to punch his way through Struve, backing him up to the cage a few times. Struve throws a right leg kick that Buentello catches and pushes Struve to the cage. Struve leaps up and wraps his legs around Buentello to pull guard, then drops and lands a CLEAN uppercut on Buentello, but doesn't look to have been effective. Struve puts Buentello on the cage, grapples, and takes him down, flipping him over and taking the back for the body triangle, trying to lay it in just 90 seconds into the fight. Buentello is keeping on his hands and knees, preventing the full submission. Struve resorts to throwing hammerfists to the side of the head and the face, then reaches under and tries to apply a choke.

Not succeeding with 2:40 left, Struve tees away with mor epunches, Buentello covers up trying to block punches, not really able to go anywhere. Buentello throws a barrel-full of punches on Struve's head to close out Round One, but this was almost all Struve here, 10-9 easily.

Round Two starts with Buentello sticking and moving with good punches, Struve returns with ticks, but gets knocked on his ass after a kick, Buentello moves in, throws a few bombs, and then demands that Struve stand up. Struve throws a kick AND a punch on one leg at the same time! Odd combo! struve puts Buentello up on the cage, but Struve is already looking gassed. 3:45 left in the round, Struve is throwing a few punches, but Buentello takes the back, then moves around to the frong and clinches, then goes into a bearhung. We replay the failed knee strike and see Struve buckle with the punch from Buentello right on the button! We then show the punching exchange that was completely awesome. I'm willing to go with Buentello 10-9 here. We take a time out as Struve's mouthpiece has a piece of his tooth stuck in it!

Round Three starts with both men tapping gloves, then taking their time to warm up, Buentello witha punch, Struve with a gentle knee to keep distance. Buentello isn't blocking it but he doesn't look any worse for the wear, either. 2:00 left, Buentello moves in to minimize the impact of Struve's kicks. Struve continues to chop at the leg, now Buentello is starting to show some signs of wear, and is now starting to reach down to block the kicl.
