Deeply Discussing Dexter: Tha 'Butler' Did It

Wrestling could learn a thing or two from "Dexter". It does an amazing job at entertaining its audience, telling a story and building characters. Find me an episode of Raw, ECW, SmackDown or Impact that has done even one of those well.

This week's episode wasn't the spotfest we saw last week but like Tid said a few weeks ago, "If every episode was a spotfest it wouldn't be called "Dexter", it'd be called ROH." More than that, these slow episodes are the ones you really have to watch over again because I guarantee you missed something important.

One thing I want to touch on and that really stood out this week is the way "Dexter" layers its stories and subplots. This, in my opinion is what keeps weekly television interesting (get out your pen and paper Vince.). From the long-running feud between Dexter and Trinity to the one off between Deb and Christine, stories in the show are constantly beginning and ending seamlessly every episode.

This week we find out that Trinity actually has four kills in his cycle and that he starts them with a 10 year old boy that represents himself. At first I just thought this was just unnecessary extra character development. But then I thought to myself, Dexter's run-in save at the end of the episode not only pissed Trinity off, it fucked up his cycle.

So Trinity has to start again. With another 10 year old boy. And he's pissed at Dexter... and Paul's parents are planning a trip to Disneyland with Astor and Cody. Dexter might have just saved another family's son only to lose his own stepson because this has to be the last straw with Arthur, there's no way he's going to let "Kyle Butler" keep getting one over on him without at least finding a little bit out about him. This is definitely getting intense as he gets closer to finding out who Dexter really is. As Jesse Ventura would say, "The race is on!"

As for Christine being the shooter, I too thought it reeked of obviousitosciousness. And as I said earlier, I really dug how they threw a flash KO with this angle. I was surprised that Deb got suspicious so early and was even more surprised when they had the blowoff at the end of the episode. I was definitely expecting a week or two in between but the way this went down sets up so much. I'm predicting a face turn where she -and not Dexter- is the one who kills her dad before he's able to lift Dexter's veil.

I can't believe there's only two episodes left of my favorite hour of the week. It seems like so many loose ends are still yet to be tied up. The Mitchell family's reaction to Arthur's inevitable death might not be what we expect. They surely didn't react the way I expected when "Kyle Butler" saved them on Thanksgiving, will they come back with the same look if Dexter finishes the job? Not to mention the possible implosion of Dexter's family.

Not only does he have to worry about killing Arthur Mitchell, not only does he have to worry about not getting caught, not only does he have to worry about Deb finding out that his mom boned his dad and that his brother is the guy who kidnapped her and tried to chop her into pieces; but now he has to worry about the fact that one of the kids in Cody's class saw him leave to go kill a guy and Masuka still has to tell Dex that Elliot next door is trying to plant seeds in Dexter's garden. With all that, the fact that Dexter got himself a new secret hideout and his last words to Harrison, "I promise you no one's ever gonna hurt you again. Especially me.", I have to wonder if this family isn't headed the way of the dodo.

Lastly, HUUUUGE fucking O to the trailer that followed "Dexter" hyping the next two episodes. This shit looks absolutely intense I'm marking already. If you haven't seen it or if you just want to watch it again and again like I have, here's the LINK.
