The PPV opens with a preview of the Team Smackdown v. Team Raw main event, showing the members who represent each crew going into the PPV, with DX as the Raw captains while Jericho and Kane are SmackDown's. "Tonight they've got to put their personal issues aside for the greater good. Tonight these superstars unite in the quest for a singular goal...
...And now Smackdown vs. Raw 2010 presents WWE Bragging Rights." Apparently the winning team gets.. A TROPHY! I kid you not. HERE DA CHEAT, HAVE A TROPHY!! The broadcast booth is Lawler, Cole & Grisham. It's time for our opening contest!
* The Miz {C} v. John Morrison {C} (Non-Title Match)
Cole reminds us that both men are former friends and tag team champions as the always arrogant Miz makes his way to the ring. Before Morrison can make his entrance, we get a video package putting over the feud between both men, including their one time only reunion of The Dirt Sheet.
Poor Marty Janetty. Half of this video package is putting over which of the two men DOESN'T want to be him. Afterwards Lawler says this of Miz: "I couldn't warm up to him if I was cremated with him, but I'll still cheer for him!" Miz stares at Morrison with disdain as he makes his way to the ring, fur robes and all. Apparently Team Raw and Team SD are hanging out backstage watching monitors. Someone in the crowd has a MIZZY JANETTY sign. Bell rings and we're underway!
Morrison is in control early and Miz has to get a rope break to save himself. Morrison gets a takedown right away and goes after the left arm. Miz tries to counter Morrison into an armdrag, but Morrison hits a fireman's carry and a near fall. Another one count is just a few seconds later. Miz gets fed up and steps through the ropes to the floor, to a chorus of boos. GRISHAM RULES. He appears to be the ONLY person in WWE who remembers that Miz and Morrison faced each other the three hour draft special.
Even if he was fed that line on the headset, it still rules that he got to say it. Morrison gets the standing SSP once Miz gets back in the ring and another near fall. Miz finally starts rolling, tosses Morrison out to the floor, then strikes a pose mid-ring and mouths his catchphrase to the annoyance of the crowd. Morrison and Miz counter each other's moves when he gets back in the ring, until it's Morrison's turn to throw Miz out and follow up on the outside before tossing him back in to get a two count.
And yet again Miz throws Morrison out! Back and forth, forth and back. They are making this match just about as even Steven as they can. Miz hits a side slam for two and starts trying to stretch out his arms and shoulders. Morrison leaps up and muele kicks him away, but Miz hits a splash into the corner and a high knee from the floor to a prone Morrison on the apron for two.
Miz puts Morrison in a chinlock once he gets back in and I've got the sneaking feeling this match will be going home soon. Morrison tries to sneak in a roll-up for two and another near fall to boot. Miz comes back with kicks, Morrison returns the favor with punches, we get the old BOO and YAY from the crowd. Morrison hits a leg lariat for 2 but misses with a running knee that Miz nearly counters into a cradle pin. Morrison ducks Miz and hits a springboard kick to the head but Miz gets his left boot on the ropes at 2.999.
Miz is dragged into position for Starship Pain, he wisely rolls out of the ring, but Morrison still nails him with a corkscrew plancha to the floor. He throws him back in for a near fall. Morrison sets Miz up top but Mizzard of Odd fights him off and jumps off with a double axe handle. Miz sets up in the corner for the Skull Crushing Finale but Morrison blocks it, hits a russian leg sweep, and STARSHIP PAIN IS BLOCKED. Miz chops the leg then rolls up Morrison for three! WINNER: HIS NAME IS THE MIZ AND HE IS AWESOME!
Afterwards we get another look at the Smackdown team being changed on Friday. Cody Rhodes is backstage bragging Raw will make a clean sweep, and R-Truth gets in his face about it and calls him SNOOTY RHODES and telling him the only reason he's on Raw is because of his daddy, and the only reason he's a winner is because Orton carries him. THAT'S THE TRUTH AND THE TRUTH HURTS.
Big Show arrives and says he can see that Truth learned a lot from Jericho, including how to be smug, but Show will let actions speak louder than words and he says to take that message (and your punk-ass blue t-shirt) back to your own lockerroom. We get a DX Survivor Series commercial before our next match!
* 3 on 3 Diva Tag Match - McCool, Natalya & Phoenix v. Kelly, Kim & Melina
For those keeping score, the heel team billed first is the diva Smackdown team, while the babyface team out last represents Raw. Our first two women in the ring are Beth Phoenix and Gail Kim as the opening bell rings.
Glamazon starts beating her up, Kim fires up for a comeback, Glamazon catches her crossbody off the ropes but Kim counters into a near fall. McCool makes a blind tag and Beth seems none too happy about it. Natalya pats her on the back when she gets the worst of her fight with Kim and that counts as a tag. Natalya misses her in the corner, slaps her in the face, but gets attacked through the ropes for a near fall.
Kelly tags in and sticks a boot to Natalya's throat a la Stacy Keibler. Kelly gets a headspin, but then has her boobs dropped across the ropes before Natalya takes her to the heel corner and hits her with knees. The ref warns her about breaking clean and her teammates double team Kelly, who is now officially the face-in-peril as they exchange quick tags.
Kelly finally gets the hot tag to Melina at 8:32, and unfortunately Melina hasn't forgotten how to scream her head off. Suddenly the match turns into a clusterfuck with both teams trying to interfere. Beth Phoenix regains control after a near fall, gets faceplanted, and suddenly all six women are in the ring as the heels make the save. Beth catches Melina in the corner as she tries to leap over her, gives her an IMPLANT BUSTER and the ref counts three. WINNERS: NATALYA, GLAMAZON AND MCCOOL.
The Smackdown team exchange high-fives in the lockerroom, happy that the score has been tied up at 1 apiece. Apparently the first show to score two victories gets the trophy, so the finish was somewhat predictable after all - Raw won the opener so Smackdown had to win the second team match. Backstage Triple H tries to give a pep talk to Team Raw, and Swagger says he doesn't need to hear it.
Hunter says too bad - individually nobody on this team should be able to get along - after all they've been giving Mark Henry crap since he nearly had a baby with Mae Young. Hunter can't stop there though - he reminds Big Show they shoved Vince McMahon's head up his ass, and Kofi Kingston they exposed him as a phony Jamaican. Kingston takes exception. Shawn says the point is nobody on the team likes DX, but they'll still be able to replace Swagger with the first guy who walks in the room. Hornswoggle comes in wearing DX gear.
"Okay, maybe not the first." An angry Hornswoggle gives them a crotch chop. Hunter tells him to change clothes and wash his face! DX pulls the team in for a one-two-three ARE YOU READY and Shawn says if anybody's not down with Raw winning he's got two words for ya - the crowd in the arena provides the SUCK IT punchline.
Is the fatal four-way next? Well we are getting a video package for it with Undertaker reminding everyone they'll step into HIS yard tonight. Punk says he's the champion these people deserve and need. Undertaker says too bad, you'll personally hand me your soul tonight.
Rey Mysterio says he may be the underdog, but he'll be the best dog in the fight. Undertaker commends his courage but says he'll show no mercy. Batista says he's not afraid of the Undertaker, and Taker says that's too bad for you because you'll die just like the rest and one-by-one the opposition shall all REST IN PEACE.
* Undertaker {C} v. Batista, Mysterio & CM Punk (Heavyweight Championship Fatal 4-Way)
Batista comes out first and Mysterio comes out second! Tell me you didn't see that coming. WWE's straight edge superstar arrives third, smiles at the top of the ramp and loudly yells IT'S CLOBBERING TIME before making his way to the ring. He poses on the ropes and grins at Batista as Big Dave tries to stare a hole through him. Punk crouches down in the corner and that leaves only one man to arrive. GONG. GONG. Cue up the spooky purple lights and the clouds of smoke, after all, it's perfect for Halloween - a pro wrestler/zombie mortician who personally vows to take people to Hell!
Lawler: "Through the smoke and the fog, a Dead Man cometh!" Undertaker pulls his hat down and rolls his eyes back at 8:49 EST, and Punk cautiously makes his way up the steps outside the ring afterwards. Tony Chimel does the World Heavyweight Championship big match intro for all three challengers + the champion. Thank Cthulhu it's not Lauren Mayhew!
Punk tries to work Undertaker over with kicks early in the match after the bell. Taker simply responds by dumping him over the ropes to the floor, where Mysterio charges and gives him a press to the mats.
Back in the ring Mysterio tries to dump Taker to the floor with a series of moves but one big boot leaves little Rey Rey laid out on the apron. Taker catches up to Batista and goes OLD SCHOOL to leave him face down, then goes back to work on Rey. Punk finally gets up and gives Taker a nut shot, then throws Mysterio clean out of the ring. Punk climbs the ropes but gets a headbutt for his troubles.
Nevertheless Punk recovers and gets a superplex, although Mysterio nearly steals the pin! He gets thrown out and Batista duels with Punk as Undertaker gets back to his feet. Batista shakes the ropes and gets a big boot for HIS troubles. Mysterio tries to jump on Taker's head, Taker prepares to give him a Last Ride, and Big Dave makes the save.
Neither man can decide who gets to pin him, Mysterio nearly gets a chokeslam, and the two end up doing a combo 619 and spinebuster for a near fall before Punk breaks it up. Punk hits Rey with the Go 2 Sleep and Batista breaks it up! Undertaker tries to pull Big Dave into Hell's Gate but Punk breaks it up. There's no shortage of teased finishes in this match, including a Last Ride from Taker on Punk that Big Dave has to DIVE across the ring to break up!
Undertaker gets up woozy and he and Dave get into a slugfest, which Undertaker finally wins and turns into a chokeslam before Punk breaks up the pin. Todd Grisham: "CM Punk is playing defense perfectly!" Lawler: "I think that's four times Punk broke up a three count."
Taker throws Punk out to the floor, slashes his throat as he looks at Batista, picks him up for a tombstone, but Batista counters out of it into a Batista Bomb! Mysterio shoves Dave off the three count. Dave shoves Mysterio off the three count! "You're supposed to be my friend man! What the hell?" Big Dave shoves Mysterio face first into the ropes and he takes a bump to the floor. Taker hits another chokeslam, and Dave kicks out at 2.9!
Taker goes for a third chokeslam, Dave blocks it, and there's a double clothesline. Punk tries to steal a pin on both Dave and Taker in that order, and each kicks out before 3. Everybody gets tossed out of the ring except Taker and Dave, Taker hits a Tombstone on Batista, and ONE TWO THREE YOUR WINNER AND STILL WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION: THE UNDERTAKER.
Taker leaves with his title, turns to look back at the ring, holds the title belt in the air with his back to the crowd and departs. Mysterio is checking on Batista in the ring as Undertaker's smoke rolls through the building. Josh Mathews gets in the ring to interview both men. Mysterio: "I don't think either of us could have worked harder. Dave, I'm sorry man. We were close. Batista was close. I was close. It didn't work out tonight man." Mathews: "At what point do you feel the match slipped away?" Mysterio: "Every man for himself, we didn't do it tonight, there will be another day."
Mathews asks Batista how he's feeling. "How do I feel?" He chuckles. "What do you think Rey, were we close? What do you guys think, were we close? I don't think we were close. I think I was close. You know what else? I think I'm tired of coming this close. You know what else? I think I'm tired of my best friend stabbing me in the back. You think I'm playing? Rey, I'm not playing. I'm gonna rip your head off." Dave drops the mic and CLOTHESLINES REY HARD. Dave unloads with a boot that sends Rey flying to the floor. The crowd boos.
Dave picks him up with both hands wrapped around his neck, pushing him into the ring apron. "I was closer than I've ever been. You were supposed to be my friend!!!' Mysterio begs Dave not to do this. DAVE WHIPS HIM INTO THE BARRICADE, THEN CHARGES AT HIM ORTON STYLE TO PUNT HIM IN THE HEAD. This is a heavy heel turn, and should be since it was long overdue.
Mysterio lays on the ground writhing in pain as Dave walks out with the crowd chanting YOU SUCK. He turns his head to look back only for a moment, then leaves satisfied with his actions. We get a replay of Mysterio being dismantled followed by a DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME promo. Afterwards WWE polls the fans outside the venue, who choose which side they think is going to win.
* Team Raw vs. Team Smackdown 7-on-7 for Bragging Rights & Da Big Trophy!
DX comes out first for their squad. Show, Rhodes, Swagger, Henry and Kingston all come out as one group next, all wearing red Team Raw t-shirts. Jericho comes out first for Team SD, followed shortly by his co-captain Kane. Hardy, Finlay, Truth and Hart Dynasty all come out as one with blue shirts for Smackdown.
The ref holds up the trophy, calls for the bell, and we start with Truth and Rhodes slugging it out in the center of the ring. It isn't long before Big Show and Kane are tagged in to do the same. Kane gets the best of it until Show knocks him down with a shoulder tackle and hits a leg drop for 2. Swagger and Hardy are the next two in. Hardy's attack is so vicious that Swagger loses his team t-shirt. They spill out to the floor and the members of each team nearly get in a gang fight on the floor. The ref sends them back to their corners as Hardy and Swagger get back in the ring.
Swagger works over Matt's left arm and shoulder for another near fall then brings him to the Raw corner to tag Mark Henry in, who works on the same arm. Shawn is tagged in and posts Matt in the corner as the crowd chants H-B-K, then unloads on him with chops. Matt finally manages to tag out to Finlay, who starts to get snug with Michaels. Jericho tags in and he's all over Shawn, mocking the crowd all the while. He beats down HBK to the point he's comfortable tagging in Kane, then screams at the ref for making a slow count when Kane goes for the pin. Kane keeps him in the Smackdown corner so DH Smith can tag in and wrap a beefy bicep around Shawn's neck. Tyson Kidd wants some too - that was a mistake!
HBK gets free and tags out to Hunter, who starts stacking up Team Smackdown like cordwood with spinebusters, until Kane breaks it up with a chokeslam of his own. Kidd drapes an arm over Hunter, who kicks out at 2.95. Jericho gets the tag and gives Hunter a bulldog. Lionsault misses! Hunter tags out to Kingston, who hits a springboard elbow and is all over him. Lawler says the beating Kingston offers would only be better if Jericho was full of candy. Jericho counters into a Walls attempt, and Kingston nearly counters into a roll-up. Trouble in Paradise is broken up before three and both teams just start calling their own spots. Oklahoma bomb by Swagger on Finlay.
Big boot by Kane. Spear by Big Show! VINTAGE BRAGGING RIGHTS says Cole. Show prepares to help Kingston fly onto Jericho... then CHOKESLAMS HIS OWN TEAMMATE. You knew that was coming. Hunter acts stunned. SHOW KNOCKS HIM OUT WITH A PUNCH and walks to the back. Jericho crawls on top of Kingston and the ref counts three. TEAM SMACKDOWN WINS BRAGGING RIGHTS AND THE TROPHY!!
The entire team hit the ring to celebrate Jericho's pin. The announce team describe his act as TREASON but nobody should have been shocked that Show would help Jericho get the win. Jericho celebrates like he's holding up the Stanley Cup (he even kisses it) as all the Smackdown members shake hands, hug and exchange high-fives. Grisham is pleased as punch and Lawler is so disgusted he threatens to knock him out. We go to a commercial for Smackdown vs. Raw 2010. We see the Army National Guard in the crowd when we return.
Cole says they should be sent to the back to arrest Smackdown for theft. Cena looks concerned backstage as we prepare for the ONE HOUR ANYTHING GOES IRON MAN MATCH with a video package putting over Cena and Orton as "THE rivalry" of WWE. Backstage Rhodes blames Kingston for their loss, Kingston tells him it's Big Show's fault, Rhodes says he's still the one who got pinned so own up to your shame. Kingston says to get out of his face and Rhodes blasts him into the equipment backstage and leaves him laying.
* Randy Orton {C} v. John Cena (60 Minutes & No Limits w/ Extra Stipulations - Cena Leaves Raw If He Loses, Orton Gets No More Rematches If He Loses)
Orton comes out first to hear the voices in his head. Orton takes his time sauntering around the ring being cocky and holding up the belt to kill a few more minutes. John Cena finally makes his entrance at 9:44 EST. World title match introductions take up a couple more minutes, and a pinfall/submission tally is put up in the lower lefthand corner before the Iron Man Match finally gets underway. Here we go!
Cena works a headlock early. Orton gets to his feet and pushes Cena into the corner. Lawler says he's never been in a "most pins in an hour" match but he's been in several that went one hour just trying to GET one pinfall.
Cena is whipped to the turnbuckle hard and stomped on. Orton is loading up with punches in the opposite corner as we near the 4 minute mark. Cena plays possum though and catches Orton off guard with the STFU and ORTON TAPS IMMEDIATELY to put Cena up 1-0. A mandatory 30 seconds ticks off between falls before the ref calls for them to start again. Wisely Lawler sells the idea Orton tapped quickly to avoid taking damage so he could last for the rest of this long match.
Orton wraps a tanned and tattoed arm around Cena's head and works on taking away his air at the 7 minute mark. Cena goes top rope for a flying legdrop at 8:30. Instead of making the cover he does YOU CAN'T SEE ME and it costs him as Orton hits the RKO and we're TIED AT 1 APIECE.
50 more minutes to go? Shit. I need a sandwich. When I get back Orton's cracking Cena with a TV monitor from the announce table with 48:45 left. Cena kicks out. Orton grabs a mic like he's going to cut a promo in the ring, cracks Cena in the head with it instead, and Cena kicks out at 47:45 left. Cena is bleeding from one shot or the other, a trickle of blood leaking down the center of his head. The ref calls for time to check Cena's cut and stops the clock at 47:04. Cena HULKS UP and says screw checking the cut so the ref restarts the clock as Cena wails on Orton, throws him outside and slams him into the steel steps. Orton reverses him into the steps in the other corner and half of Cena's face is covered in blood. Cena kicks out at 46:15.
Orton keeps up the assult and near fall attempts before throwing him back in. 15 minutes gone and Cena is staggering around the ring as Orton targets each punch at Cena's cut. Orton pounds the mat like he's going to hit another RKO. Cena counters it and hits a flying shoulder tackle, and Cole screams VINTAGE JOHN CENA. Five knuckle shuffle and Attitude Adjustment? Apparently Orton countered it into a RKO. Both men's shoulders are down, the ref counts both pins, and the score changes to 2-ALL. Bizarre!
Doctors check both men, clear the ring, and Orton charges over to spear Cena in the corner but misses. Lawler says the doctors have glued Cena's cut shut. Cena sets up Orton on the top rope at the 19 minute mark and comes off with a SUPER Attitude Adjuster, but doesn't have the strength to cover immediately. He still gets the pin anyway though! CENA GOES UP 3-2 and LEGACY HIT THE RING to beat him up during the 30 second interval. "It's not ethical, but it's legal" quips Grisham, and he's right - this is an anything goes match!
DiBiase puts Cena on Dream Street, Legacy drag Orton on top of him for the pin and IT'S THREE ALL with 39:15 left. KINGSTON RUNS OUT WITH A CHAIR and chases Legacy away! 30 second go by with both men selling their injuries and getting up slow for a double clothesline spot putting each back down.
Cena gets pissed off when they both recover and says to heck with wrestling, let's slug it out, and they spill out of the ring and work their way across the entrance ramp, with each punch sending Orton reeling. Cena tries to toss him into the barricade and Orton counters, then kicks Cena in the head and covers him for 2. Orton slams Cena into some boxes of electrical equipment by the staging area.
Orton slams Cena into what is allegedly the control panel for the pyro, setting one off. Orton seems momentarily spooked but gets his wits about him and throws Cena THROUGH the lighting display on the top of the ramp, then covers him to take the pin AND ORTON IS UP 4-3. 34 minutes are left after the mandatory 30 second delay. Cena is trying to crawl back to his feet. Orton comes over to the pyro controls ag
ain, tests where the explosions are, then grabs a steel chair to smack Cena as he crawls across the stage. Orton drags him into position, goes back to the pyro control, throws a technician aside and says YOU DON'T TELL ME WHAT TO DO, DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM? The ref and official both try to stop him, so he starts pounding on all of the buttons. Cena apparently missed the actual explosions but the announce team sell he may have at least been blinded by the brightness of them. Orton drags a stunned Cena down the ramp and beats him pillar to post. Lawler reminds us Orton tries to actually end Cena's life.
Cena is whipped into the steps and the cut has been opened up again. Grisham: "Orton is insane. Look at him!" 30 minutes left. Orton throws the steel steps at Cena's skull and covers him for a near fall. Orton stomps on him as a camera at floor level tries to catch each single blow like he's stomping on the viewers. Orton grabs a steel chair and brings it over at 28:15 to go, then cracks it into Cena's back as he leans on the ringpost where the steps used to be. Cena kicks out again! Orton throws him back into the ring.
ORTON GETS ROLLED UP FOR AN INSIDE CRADLE TO TIE IT 4-ALL. 26:30 left when the mandatory 30 ends, although Orton beat up Cena for the first 10 seconds of it. Orton pulls a prone Cena halfway out of the ring. It looks like he might DDT Cena from the ring to the floor! Lawler: "Oh no." Oh yes! Orton does it and covers for three. 5-4 ORTON. 24:15 left after the 30 seconds.
Orton spends the next four minutes wailing on Cena, who basically just sucks it up and takes it until 20:30. Orton goes to unload on him and Cena hits him with one big punch, shocking himself as much as Orton, and Orton bails out of the ring to avoid another. Orton looks up at the ramp, sees 20 minutes left, and suddenly Cole and Lawler discuss whether Orton's going to play "prevent defense" with the time remaining to keep his 1 point lead. Cena follows him up the ramp and gets a boot in the gut. Orton circles him and looks up at the clock. Cena gets in one punch and Orton runs down to the ring.
Cena screams COME ON as a trickle of blood runs down his forehead. An angry Cena follows him down to the ring with 18:20 left. Orton pounds on him again, gets Cena on the ropes, but the DDT is countered into an Attitude Adjuster, which Orton escapes from by elbowing Cena in the forehead. Orton then LITERALLY escapes by jumping over the barricade and running away!
16:30 left as Cena and a ref catch up to him in the crowd, where the brawl continues in "The Igloo" a/k/a Carnegie Mellon Arena. Cena sends Orton stumbling and rolling down the entrance steps with a punch, and they wind up behind the souvenir seats at ringside. 15 minutes remain! Cena tosses Orton over the barricade and goes for a cover, but Orton kicks out at 2. Cena keeps trying to lay a whoopin' on him but can't keep him down for a three count.
Cena throws Orton THROUGH the ringside barricade at 12:30 to go! Cena drags the bottom half of the ring steps over to the announce table, takes two TV monitors out of said table, picks the steps up and CLONKS Orton in the head with it. Cena rebuilds the ring steps on the left side of the announcer's position, then he goes over to pick Randy pick up and carry him over his shoulders to the table. He walks up the steps, you know what's coming next... ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT THROUGH THE ANNOUNCE TABLE! 1-2-3 and WE'RE TIED AT 5 WITH 9:00 LEFT.
Cena waits in the ring for the mandatory 30 seconds then immediately runs over to cover Orton again, but Orton kicks out at 2.999 with 8:30 to go. Cena realizes he's got to kick it up a notch so he pulls a table out from under the ring! Cena gets it set up inside the squared circle and goes out to fetch Randy with 7 minutes remaining. Cena struggles to pick him up, struggles to get him in, and finally steps through the ropes with 6 minutes until it's over... or until overtime I should say if the score remains tied. Cena lays Orton out on the table, goes top rope for a leg drop and ORTON ROLLS OUT OF THE WAY.
Lawler is smug and basically says I told you so after having warned us moments before Cena was making a big mistake. 4:20 and counting says Lawler. Oh really? (I wonder if Cancer just rolled one up.) We get a BOO and YAY slugfest as both men are on their knees. They fight back up to their feet and Cena's getting the better of it with 3 minutes left, but when Cena starts running the ropes to attack Orton, Randy ducks and the ref gets clonked. ORTON HITS THE RKO. No ref to count it!
Orton signals for Charles Robinson to run down. CENA KICKS OUT AT 2. Orton ATTACKS LIL' NAITCH. Two minutes left! Suddenly with no refs left and 90 seconds to go, Orton decides to go for the punt and MISSES as Cena recovers, and Cena immediately goes for the STFU. Orton hangs on for all he's worth! ORTON TAPS WITH FIVE SECONDS LEFT AND CENA WINS 6-5.
Well, I told Mr. Poulin there was no way Cena was leaving Raw, but they sure did a hell of a job trying to convince us he might be. PPV ends at 10:52 EST. G'night everyone!
