If you ask the question, could they have not brawled on the outside to save that for HHH and Orton because it suited their match better?...then YES.
Then again, after watching the clip. I now STILL say NO. Taking the match to the outside helped for a moment where HBK almost won the match by countout. This match was ALL about ending the Taker's streak. Brawling on the outside helped add the intrigue due to the ways in which Taker COULD have lost.

I don’t care who is in the main as long as it entertains me. That’s it. If they had the MITB match last, I would be happy as long as it made me “O!”
I don't agree that Taker/ Michaels should've done less in their match. Steamboat/Savage in Wrestlemania 3 was deep in the card and they totally out-shined Hogan/Giant. If Steamboat/Savage would have done less in their match people wouldn't be calling it one of the best matches 22 years later. I agree that the 3 way did bring everyone down alot. Actually I was watching it with about 100 people at a restaurant and after the 3 way about a quarter of them left. I also think the cheesy stipulation for HHH was also a let down. Make it a no holds barred. Biggest match on the card after a guy watches his woman get violated and he can't let his frustration out.
Did Steamboat and Macho do too much at WM3? No way. And Macho was in the Main for WM4. That's how your supposed to become a main eventer, by earning your way up.
Rather than asking if Taker and Micheals did too much, we should be asking if H and Orton did enough. Also, it was obvious at the end of the match that the fued hadn't culminated, and would continue to the next ppv. This hould not happen at WM. Main events at that show should be the culmination of a fued.
How many O-sters have been listening long enough to catch that the "cream your ass back" was an allusion to (I'm sure Casur knows the exact episode number) a show in year one or two where Dan-e-o was NO-ing for people who have crusty toes/feet and show them off in sandals. "cream your heel back guy!".

Savage / Steamboat could NOT in any way take away from the most anticipated match in fed history - and biggest draw ever ... Hogan / Andre.
The two matches are such polar opposited that there was no chance for the two to take from each other. There was no fear of Hogan / Andre doing anything similar to Steamboat / Savage or vice versa.
In 2009, too much of the roster is alike. The same types of things you see in one match at Mania 25, you could see in every other match ... everyone's a good worker (minus the few obvious exceptions)

Sudoku, I know the episode you're talking about, I know around the time it was at on the calendar, I just don't have the number. I remember some fat jobber came in studio with a Cena bobblehead and got heeled on for the bobblehead and for coming in wearing sandals. It was the week after One Night Stand in 2007. Donnie had the best line in that episode, when he grabbed the bobblehead, started playing with it, and yelled into the mic "Hey! Talk about my match!"

I agree with PA and Dan-e-oh Taker and Michaels did enough and had no reason to pull back anything to help give the mains something extra for the end. Honestly I hate these triple threat world titles matches they've been doing the last few years. They got it right once at WM20 but then have treated these matches as filler since. Triple H and Orton should have been better. The match was just Triple H coming back hard from everything Orton gave him, and the ending of the match was weak. It had nothing to do with the amount of thihgs done by Taker and Michaels it was just a poorly put together match.

That's my point. It should be the main eventers' jobs to up the ante from the previous matches, both in terms of build and the actual match. If they aren't capable, they should lose some credibility as main eventers.
HHH and Orton's match did so in terms of build, but when it came to the match they just didn't deliver a good enough match to justify the main event spot. I understand the old-school thought that a title match should main a show, but This could've been a rare exception, for 2 reasons...
1. You're talking about two of the GOATs going against eachother for the first time in a long time, with Taker's streak on the line
2. This one's most important, and I wish you guys mentioned it on the show. Neither of the title matches ended their respective feuds. Both feuds linger into the next PPV, at least. A Wrestlemania main event should be a culmination to a long-building feud. I feel cheated as a fan when it doesn't work out that way, and think it should've played into the decision when choosing which match main evented this particular show.
