Everyone’s talking about it. No, not that hot ass picture of Lufisto (she has officially beaten Victoria as the hottest female wrestler). I’m talking about The Deadman, Big Evil, The Phenom, The American Badass, The Undertaker. This coming WrestleMania once again his streak is being threatened. It kinda appears that they are slapping this thing together this year. And that bugs me. I refuse to sit here like most fans and debate whether or not his streak will be broken. You know why? Because I watched "SmackDown!" last week.
That went down as one of the most shocking loss in wrestling history for me. Not 123 Kid vs. Razor Ramon shocking or Jeff Hardy becoming the champ shocking. This was Barry Horowitz beating Skip from the Bodydonnas shocking. This shit should not have happened. Why?
Because he was beaten by a power slam.
Okay, there’s more to it than the power slam. Now, I get the whole “he’s big, Russian, and crazy” shit. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But he’s also the guy that couldn’t pin Matt Hardy a few months back. I know that they didn’t wanna throw away his undefeated streak on free TV. I get that. But pinning The Deadman clean?
I don’t like that one damned bit. This was one time I wouldn’t have bitched about a run in, DQ, or stoppage due to blood loss. In a few weeks it will be WrestleMania and The Undertaker should not be suffering any losses. Let alone clean ones on free TV. It’s just not right.
Undertaker has had some real stinkers of feuds during his WrestleMania streak. I remember Giant Gonzalez, A-Train/Big Show, and Mark Henry. Now, I’m not knocking those guys. They were good in their own rights. Also, I’m not knocking Kozlov. He’s good for what he is. But seeing as how Taker has only so much gas in his tank I don’t think one of his last WrestlMania’s should be with someone in a slapped together feud. It needs to mean something special. A match with him and HBK would be awesome but its not something I think would be beneficial to either of them. Who I think would have been good for this?
Matt Hardy. That’s right, I said it. Matt Hardy. Why? Because everything he said about his brother is true. Matt has always been the stable one and got screwed over because of it. While he was on "SmackDown!" fighting for Cruiserweight straps his brother Jeff was getting pep talks from HBK and fighting The Undertaker. Matt had his girlfriend get fucked by another wrestler and was rewarded with a pink slip. Matt had to bust a chair over his brothers head and let the guy that fucked his girl win the belt just to get a little more airtime. The fuck?!
A match between heel Matt and The Undertaker would make money. That is a match I would see. Would he break Taker’s streak? Not likely. But the possibility and the unpredictability of a heel Matt Hardy would make me wonder “What if…?” just like when Taker fought Orton at WrestleMania 21. I thought Orton had that shit in the can. That’s what is missing. A sense of something awesome and unforeseen happening. Matt Hardy beating The Deadman is the awesome, unforeseen thing. Too bad it won't happen.
This year.

I honestly think that Koslov beating the Undertaker the way he did works. How many times have we seen Taker go for Ol' School and see the dude just stand there and wait to get hit? It was a good move to take Taker out. A minor slip by the Deadman completely reasonable, Koslov takes advantage. Just like a MMA fight. Matt Hardy versus Taker at Mania, I'm not sure. I really think the streak breaker storyline should be something that has a hell of a build up and an instant push. Just my opinion.
Nice column. I agree with everything you said. I was stunned when Taker got pinned and wondered why in the world they didn't do a DQ. They have no problem doing that for Edge pretty much every week, so why not do it for Taker, especially when we found out yesterday that HBK would beat Kozlov. I guess I could have lived with it more if Kozlov would've won so that way they could promote the fact that he beat Taker once and was undefeated. Now though, what purpose did it serve? Taker was made to look weak enough to lose to a slam and now Kozlov is going to be pushed aside it looks like. I am happy that it's HBK versus Taker because I love them both, but the way they made the match happen left something to be desired. As far as who I would like to see take on Taker, I was thinking more about Morrison. I'm not sure how much longer they can keep him down as a tag guy and it's obvious he's going to move up eventually, so why no have it happen at the biggest stage of them all? Would Morrison win? Of course not, but it doesn't matter who is facing Taker, they're going to lose. No way will they ruin his streak, not even for HBK. So why not let Morrison take Taker to the limit and have him showcase his talent for the world to see and send him on his way up for the singles career that he deserves. Just my thought, I'm sure a lot of people would disagree, but I see that this spot against Taker should be to elevate someone younger, not to have someone that's already a hall of famer lose to him. Although HBK and Taker will be fun to watch. =)
Zyrone, I swear Kamala pulled him from the top before. We have seen Taker not be beaten by a group, after being put through a table, and kicked to hell. But all of a sudden a power slam does the trick?
TimTS, I dont want people to think that HBK/Taker wouldn't be cool. I would love to see that match. I just have a problem with a slapped together match featuring the two. If Kozlov had not beaten Taker last week then at least there would've been some "Ooh, what's gonna happen?" going into 'Mania. That's all moot now that HBK will face Taker.
I mentioned Matt Hardy because he has been with that company for over 10 years and has gotten dicked so often. He deserves a chance to shine his ass off! I mentioned it happening next year because at least there would be time to beuild something towards it. But what does Taker or HBK get out of this other than a good match that could be seen on TV?
Morrison is another good choice but I would go with Matt just because I think he could pull off a awesome ass match whereas with Morrison I wouldn't believe for a moment he could beat The Deadman.
Kozlov went over the Undertaker so when HBK did beat him, it can be promoted as such. Look, on paper, HBK vs. The Undertaker in their home state for WM 25, is money. Adding that HBK just beat the unbeatable, puts a little more intrigue with the booking.
However, if I wanted to add a little bit on the top, something that nobody has ever done before, I would do this:
Beat the Streak or Retire.
Now how many more buys, how much more publicity would you get out of WM 25, if it goes down with either the match that Undertaker's streak is broken, or the last match of "Mr. Wrestlemania"?
And I am really sorry, but Matt Hardy's WM 25 angle has been set ever since his brother won the strap. I don't care if they had Christian. The thing is, will they be seeing each other one on one or each other in the MITB match? I say, let them build it till Summer Slam, hell let them build it till next WM.
Some things deserve a build, and brothers hating each other for over a year, to finally fight at a WM, is better than this 2 month bullshit. Look at the Owen/Brett build for WM X.
Title alone makes this the best article in O Show history.
I like the idea of letting the Matt/Jeff angle build until next year. You could even do that by having them both in the MitB this year. Next year though, to make it mo money, and even mo betta have it for a World Championship. Not ECW, but a real one. WWE or World. Triple H can't have his nose over them, he should be doing something else. Have Orton locked into one next year with Edge as a challenger, or someone else, but have Matt and Jeff going at it for one...or why not have them kick off the show with the winner going on to face Yokuzuna later in the night? Or at least one of the brand champions.
That idea sounds so good, but I swear having them kick off the show and then wrestle the champ later...I've heard it before, or have I seen it? I don't know, what I do know is that it's time to fill this bowl back up.
