Tha Raw Report

Last week I wrote in depth on the best heel in professional wrestling right now, and the opening segment of “Raw” this week only furthered that point. Chris Jericho doesn’t even have to do anything. Now, his relentless attack on the legends is something, but in his interviews, he does nothing, which makes him even more heelish.

The crushing of the Rolex was a subtle touch that went miles and miles beyond what it would have been had anyone else done the same thing. All hail King Jericho. A true throwback to the days when “Raw” was raw.

“Raw” as a whole hasn’t been that bad lately. The attempt at humor from certain guys just needs to end. John Cena really has to stop going the comedy route. His “Get Well” card to Vickie wouldn’t have been that bad. It rhymed and everything, but what would have made the segment work? How about a throwback freestyle?

Now while on the topic of John Cena I’m going to veer off-track. Will you internet dirt sheet guys please, and I ask this sincerely, stop making this John Cena/Dwayne Johnson thing into a beef. It isn’t a beef. Cena has a problem with Johnson proclaiming his love for wrestling then bailing to go make movies, and rightly so.

He has not, at any point said anything degrading. He has made true, fact based statements. No personal digs, just truths. Let it go, nothing is going to happen, Dwayne Johnson isn’t going to come out in his Rock gear at the Kids Choice Awards and Rock Bottom Cena through the stage, and he isn’t going to come back for a match with Cena.

There will be no million dollar match between The Rock of yesterday and the Mock of today. It won’t happen, it will never happen, I’m sure someone on the creative team has dreamed it up, and I’m sure in most of our minds we’ve fantasy booked it, but that’s just it. It’s fantasy booking, nothing close to legitimate booking. It will never happen.

“Raw” has done a nice job of turning back the clock and highlighting moments of WrestleMania gone by. The WrestleMania 21 throwback package was great. “Raw” wasn’t at the top of it’s game at that time, but WrestleMania tends to go above and beyond, and maybe the whole show didn’t, but the video package did a nice highlighting job.

It was great how they did make sure to mention the “Rise of the Rated R Superstar” drawing to memory that it really hasn’t been that long since Edge really came into his own and became Edge. Another funny note from that is that Kurt Angle and Christy Hemme were both shown in the Goes Hollywood commercials.

I have a few slight problems with the show itself. No matter the result or the physical action, why would WWE even go to the trouble to promote a Randy Orton/Triple H in ring match? Don’t do that. We’re supposed to want to pay for it. Now though you’re giving it to us free? Come on now.

I know that it wasn't an actual wrestling match, but why even throw Orton's name in? Why not just have H facing Ted? That way it would have been even more heelish for what did happen. Orton just show up out of nowhere take out H, take out Steph and then kiss her in front of H. That would have been better, but thats just me.

Also the eight man tag team matches that continue to happen aren’t as bad. These are actually good and build towards the suspense of the MitB match. Sure you risk injuring someone with all the bodies in the ring, but that’s always a risk, and in this case, maybe it isn’t that bad of a risk.

The MitB match should be entertaining. There are enough high flyers to make it work, and enough big men to make it interesting on another level. I’m guessing the favorite is CM Punk since he’s already won a MitB. Kane and Henry also make interesting possible winners, but are at the same time pretty unlikely.

Finlay has experience as does Christian who participated in MitB numero uno. He would be a great choice to win, but apparently Vince doesn’t see him as a main eventer, so that’s not likely either. MVP also has experience, but I don’t think the US Champ will walk out the winner.

The guy who really needs the rub of winning, and a shot at big gold is Shelton Benjamin. This makes me think back to everyone who says how he botches moves, and I even remember someone bringing up that if you watched close enough he almost botched a spot in MitB. This will be Benjamin’s fourth MitB, and it’s time he takes the briefcase.

Overall I won’t say “Raw” was bad, not bad at all. I also want to say for a second, I’m really happy for Nick Nemeth. His name isn’t all that great now, but hey, he’s Dolph Ziggler and even though his winning record isn’t stellar he’s finding himself in a decent spot. He also gave a few nice shots and took a few too in the Extreme Rules match.

Is it ok for me to say that I am really, really upset that Santino Marella isn't going to get the chance to be Ms. WrestleMania? The promo alone should have allowed him entrance into the match. The facial expressions of Beth Phoenix were also high on the list of reasons why this should have happened. Oh well, it's really just a shameless way for me to put over Santino. Sue me.

What I’m interested in this week though, is what Tha Nation of O thought about the week and the build for WrestleMania. To make things interesting though, answer this, do you think the declining ratings trend will continue, or with Mania on the horizon will people start to tune in again just to catch up? Also, is anyone going to watch Leno tonight to see Cena?

I think some of the match build ups are great. The Jericho/ Legends feud is shaping up, but I kinda wish they had found somebody to go against him in an one on one match. It just has that Cyber Sunday feel to it. The Triple H/ Orton build has kinda got me confused. Orton has been the one knocking most of the meetings out of the park. It just feels like Orton's not gonna get the win and I don't dig that. Could really give a shit about Edge/ Show/ Cena. It just seems like they don't know how to make that match compelling without throwing Vickie and her loose vag in there. Chavo should just retire, by the way.

Zyrone, we were cool, but now, you've mentioned Vickie's loose vag, and now I think I want to shoot myself. I'm on suicide watch now.

Who is Chavo? The guy that used to wrestle? Or that loser/extra that pushes Vickie in her wheelchair.

At least somebody is giving honest opinions, whether or not I agree with them. I disagree strongly with the Santino thing, but that really is neither here nor there.

B&C, if you're on Suicide Watch, does that mean that you're checking out TNA "iMPACT!", every Thursday night on Spike TV, featuring Suicide, one of the stars of the TNA "iMPACT!" video game?

Please whoever you are stop. For God's sake stop. Don't do that anymore. Don't be Suicide.

This is an article based on Raw, so I'm going to make an educated guess that you don't like Raw or otherwise would much prefer, well, nevermind. Let's keep the attention focused on the article, and Raw.

I thought the angles to start and end the show were excellent. After seemingly losing focus over the past few weeks, both programs (Jericho-legends and Orton-HHH) are back on track.

Orton is the best heel going right now, hands down. The final segment last night proved it. The crowd was in suspense the whole time, wondering what he'd do next.

The Jericho segment was great too. Good ol' Flair, always willing to bleed to get an angle over.

Why does Flair bleed everytime he gets near the ring in the past llike 2 years

I just realized how important it is to be a good heel by watching both of the Y2J and Orton segments, i think that is what has been missing for a while in the wwe. There are always people who try to be heel but never go to the extremes like what Orton and jericho have been doing. What they need to do now is bring back managers atleast for heels and hopefully they are starting that trend and will not mess up with Tyson Kidd.

o and another thing what is going on with the ECW belt at mania, how is there no match set up yet. And why do so many people not have a spot, they should throw together a battle royal to set up the #1 contender like last year and make it a real match this time.

and dont tell me about time issues for mania, it starts at 7 and never makes it to 11 like it should if u air all the matches like it is set up and dont have dark matches show them on tv and give them exposure on ppv.

I was at Raw last night so I thought I'd share a few things from it. First off how sad is the women's title right now? So sad that Melina was actually the dark match of the night, can't get much worse than that. Second, Ric Flair is amazing, I got goose bumps when he came out. Wasn't sure if he was going to be there but watching him get his ass kicked right in front of me (i had floor seats, right behind the announcers table) It just reminded me of how much better he is than practically everyone wrestling today. Other than that, the only other cool thing was Orton and HHH. Someone wrote above that the crowd was in suspense and I have to say they were correct. There were lots of wtf's and is he? Nah, YA! It went on for a good while. The BEST part of the night though was that they promoted the main event of the night to be DX and Cena vs Legacy. If you hate all the little Cena lovers then this would've been gold for you because there was nothing funnier than after the show ended and walking out, seeing little kids ask their dad "when's Cena coming out?" and stuff like that. There were about 7000 little kids sad. Normally I'd feel bad for the kids but come on, they're Cena lovers and how can you feel bad for that. It did kind of suck that HBK wasn't there though but that's why they put card subject to change in the fine print. Overall I give the show a B, I would've given it an A but there was very little actual wrestling and no HBK.

For the MiTB. My 1st pick was MVP, but he now has the US Championship, so I figured they did that for a reason? Hopefully to open the door for Shelton to win the case. I mean 4 MiTB in a row?? Give the guy a chance...he has athleticism pouring out of him like crazy. Hopefully WM 25 will be Golden....for Shelton that is...

Hopefully, after Mania there won't be no stopping him, now, onto my next point, I don't really have one, just a shameless plug of his music.
