Revisiting What Was Almost "My Last O"

It was one year ago this weekend, actually Feb 29th, that I nearly took my last breath.

Amongst all the bullshit and everything else, not a day passes where I don't think about that night. I'm still not sure how I walked away from that one...

The amount of things that happened to me over the past year, professionally and personally make me very thankful that I'm still here ... even if i'm just getting shit on by a bunch of people who don't know me very well. I'm very grateful to be able to continue on this path, and I'm grateful that I have all of you to share it with.

Below is the story I published on March 1st 2008, just hours after the accident. And if you're interested, Owie.ca recently conducted an interview with me. Check it.

God Bless you all.

On Friday night at around 11 PM, Tha O Show almost lost one of its founders.

I was driving from Toronto to Ottawa - which is about 4 or 5 hour drive. About an hour into the drive the roads started getting nasty. Snow was coming down like crazy and Highway 401 was more like an ice rink.

I had spoken to people in Ottawa and points in between that said the snow had subsided and roads were clear. I figured once I got through this little nasty stretch it'd be clear sailing.

But I never made it through that nasty stretch.

Just outside of the small town of Cobourg, the highway thinned to just two lanes. I was driving really slowly - maybe 45 or 50 KM an hour. While driving in the right lane, I hit a patch of black ice. It wasn't much, but enough to make my front tires veer to the left. I tried hard to turn it back the other way, but immediately to my left was a huge 18 wheeler transport truck.

I basically went right towards the truck, perpendicular to oncoming traffic. I saw the massive tire of the truck directly in front of me, just a millisecond before my entire life flashed before my eyes.

I'm not shitting any of you. I thought I was done.

The truck peeled through the front end of my car, as I ended up underneath it. Then I felt a push back, and the entire car went flying - spinning out of control in the opposite direction until I was up against the guard rail.

People behind me stopped to see if I was ok. The driver of the 18 wheeler - a guy about my age named Todd stopped his truck and came running back to check on me.

I felt like i had just been hit by a ton of bricks. I called 911 and stared at what used to be my full size sedan.

Todd waited with me and went above and beyond to try and put my mind at ease.

When the police showed up - the senior officer looked at me, surveyed the wreck and said, "Son you should go play the lottery. You're the luckiest guy I know. The way this looks to me, you should have been squashed flat".

The 18 wheeler didn't have a scratch on it.

After I was dropped off at a nearby hotel for the night, I sat awake for hours realizing how close I actually came to the end. How the hell am I not dead? Other than some soreness and bruises, I'm physically fine.

I'm not sure why I'm writing this for all of you - other than to simply say, I love my O Show family and want to remind you all of something you've heard a thousand times before. Respect and cherish every fucking moment. Cuz you never know.

I remember when this shit happened last year and in my selfish little world said to myself, "If something happened to Donnie I would be fucked out of entertainment every week!" Of course there's the bigger picture. I'm glad you didn't die, man. That would've sucked all kinds of scary uncle. You're a cool ass guy and I dont know what I'd do without you. Cue gay ass music...

Wow! You must have shit Evo all over the front of your car.

"Tha Dan-e-O Show"?......hhhhmmmm

It has a nice ring to it!

By the way, I love that Dan-e-o uses the same "Im so sexy" face in all his pictures. He must have worked on that in front of the mirror.
