Simmons and Slaughter Released

The latest victims of the WWE cost cutting are a pair of true veterans. The first black world champion in history, Ron Simmons and former WWF Champion, Sgt. Slaughter were both released yesterday.

Simmons has been working as an ambassador to the company, doing a lot of promotional work and making cameo appearances on TV. He was last seen on Raw during the presentations of the Slammy for "Damn!" moment of the year.

Slaughter is a WWE Hall Of Famer, and was considered by many within the lockeroom to be "untouchable" as far as layoffs go. Slaughter has been an agent with the company for the last decade and has years of service that predate that.

The WWE is not playing around when it comes to these cuts and has decided to reduce all duplication and only keep the best of the best in each role.

More talent and backstage cuts are expected this month.

It seems like the Fed is getting rid of all of the higher paid officals and agents.

Things must be bad if longtimers like Slaugher and Simmons are getting the ax.

Can you really blame them? I like R.S,but paying this dude 6 figures a year just to say "DAMN"really is really not "Good business". Now if they would only let go of some of the dead weight that populates Raw and smackdown week in and week out.then the world would be a much better place.

This reminds me... have the Fed EVER mentioned that Ron was a world champ? I can't remember them mentioning it once.

Robbie-
They mention it once in a while, usually when Simmons is putting somebody over. It got mentioned a few times when Santino was feuding with him.

What's the over/under on how long before Big Dick Johnson gets the ax?

a) that idea is horrible for a few reasons.

b) they already pretty much did that when Simmons retired from regular in-ring action. the Acolytes split, Bradshaw became JBL and Farooq was "fired". it didn't go over so well.
