Friday Night Fallout: Opening Day Jitters?

Maybe it was just homes in my area, but last night "SmackDown" made it's long awaited debut on MyNetworkTV. It just didn't happen as planned. There was no "SmackDown" on television until 8:14EST. There was also a long blackout and the re-airing of the same commercial three times and we cut immediately back Santino Marella and Shelton Benjamin. From what I saw of "SmackDown" though it wasn't that bad.

"SmackDown" is without a doubt number two of the four shows on television right now involving wrestling, (this is of course NOT including Hulk Hogan's new wrestling reality show on CMT.) "SmackDown" has legit stars, and has had decent storylines as of late. Tonight with their big debut on MyNetworkTV was star studded to say the least.

How can you hate Champion vs. Champion matchups that don't end up burying someone? You can't, but then again you have to have that tingling feeling in your stomach that a Triple H champion vs. champion match will include the burial of a champion. Listen to this lineup and tell me it doesn't just sound good. Santino vs. Shelton. Primo-Carlito-Punk vs. DiBiase-Rhodes-Manu. Beth Phoenix getting to woman handle butterfly champion Michelle McCool. Jericho vs. H vs. Matt Hardy. That's PPV caliber.

I will however say this. It is somewhat difficult for me to write this article. Not my migraines, and food poisoning I got this week. It's the pain I'm feeling knowing that OJ Simpson was found guilty on all counts. Serious pain people. My ribs are hurting from laughing so hard. A dumbass is a dumbass is a dumbass. OJ Simpson is the Ultimate Warrior of the NFL.

Other than the interruptions I've mentioned already I thought the show was good, and better than the last "Raw" I watched, and that was several weeks ago. I missed the first week of MNF, but since then, I've been a devoted MNF follower. I missed "SmackDown" also lately due to shitty working hours and I haven't followed too closely online either, so apparently a question I had a few weeks ago is still the same.

Is Kozlov in place for a run or shot at the title or is he just going to attack people? Triple H went over in the triple threat champion match, and for once it doesn't bother me, because this was "SmackDown" debuting on MNTV so their champion needed to look better. Then after that the freakish Russian guy busts onto the screen and takes out their champion.

This brings up another question. Jeff Hardy won the elimination match earlier, but why have a guy not in the match take out the champ when the #1 contender isn't even out there. Doesn't that confuse both of the fans tuning in to MNTV to watch "SmackDown" for the first time? Maybe not, but you really need to think things out a little more.

I was happy to see Michelle McCool lose, but I was even happier to see an actual female worker not named Nattie or Victoria get a win on "SmackDown." Beth Phoenix is sick, and while she would arguably be a better fit in TNA she does a nice job in WWE. Plus most guys out there are thinking they'd like to give it a go. Sorry former O Show guest Mr. Beth Phoenix.

I'm going to get this out there. The Chicago Cubs are choking but nothing is going to change. The Detroit Lions are giving us more of the same, but something change and they fired Matt Millen finally. I know there's a loyal reader and listener of Tha O Show from Y-Town reading this, and I know he's happy about the Millen firing. Congrats bredren. Now the WWE should take a hint and fire the "Raw" General Manager/President whatever. I don't mean Mike Adamle, I mean Gerwitz and his group.

Bring in some new guys and turn the ship around. 2.7, and two weeks of 3.1 on "Raw" isn't good, especially considering that there is a high possibility that "SmackDown" will get close this week. If there is a shakeup at the top of the card (belt wise) I can see "SmackDown" surpassing "Raw" and officially making "Raw" the number three show. Numerically, not just in the opinions of every single fan out there.

I believe "SmackDown" really staked their claim as the second best show on WWE TV, and while reports say those within the E know this, it doesn't look like it considering that no changes have been made yet. ECW is the Steelers of the Steel Curtain era, "SmackDown" is an NHL team with Gretzky in his prime and "Raw," well "Raw" is the Detroit Lions, Chicago Cubs, San Diego sports teams, and pre-Manny Red Sox. It's just cursed. All Hail King ECW and Prince "SmackDown!"

Quick results...
*Jeff Hardy, Batista, Rey Mysterio & Finlay def. JBL, Kane, MVP & The Brian Kendrick
*Santino Marella def. Shelton Benjamin
*Mark Henry & The Great Khali def. Chavo Guerrero – Handicap Match
*Carlito & Primo & CM Punk def. Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase & Manu
*Beth Phoenix def. Michelle McCool
*Triple H def. Matt Hardy and Chris Jericho

from using my wwe experties on logic, im guessing the russian kozlov is going to be involved someway or another during the no mercy, hhh v hardy match because it will be put in mid-card anywho what with the ladder match n all n it will let hhh keep the belt and hardy say well i never got a proper title shot

ALSO, can i just add that gregory helms promos are awesome, im just saying!

My shitty DirecTV local package made me miss Gregory Helms promos? Now I'm pissed.

I didn't even see them, but I will agree and say that, Yes they were awesome.

Ten bucks says Kozlov does a run in and costs Jeff the title. That's cutting edge, unpredictable entertainment right there.

(And I own an H shirt.)

Well...well...well...MVP jobs out yet again!!! Shocker right? Bah!

K-Kwik's rapping through the crowd towards the ring distracts "Goldilocks" just enough for him to get pinned by Santino??? Damn, I love Marella but that was pretty lame-assed if you ask me.

Why is it that Cody Rhodes pretty much gets the taste slapped out of his mouth almost every week? People should know that there are 2 other second-generation boys in that group! I don't think that Shemp from the 3 Stooges ever got slapped around so much like that before!

Primo Colon, the master of the dropkick! How many did he deliver in that one match... like 5 or 6 of them??

And once again, the super-human Triple H goes over not 1, but 2 champions in Jericho and Matt Hardy!!! WTF???

Word bredren, you have no idea how hype-alaz I am over Millen being gone. I feel so liberated! Problem is our season is already over unless Stanton can come back and start over Kitna. He's like Brett Favre two years ago, except without the leadership and crazy plays. Just the insane amounts of interceptions.

Anyways. Smackdown was pretty solid. I was actually excited for this episode and it came through. Def ppv standard, too bad it'll over shadow No Mercy.

Yeah, I can def see Kozlov interfering. Makes Jeff and HHH still look strong, and him even stronger. Guarantee it leads to a 3 way for the strap though.
