I've been an outspoken advocate of the high number of face vs. face feuds that WWE has been using over the past few years. They're okay every once in a while, but not nearly as much as WWE likes to utilize them. However, in the case of Jeff Hardy vs. Triple H, I'm fine with it.
The reason that I'm fine with it is because even though they're both faces, Triple H still acts like a heel a lot of the time, and Jeff Hardy may be the biggest face in the company right now. DJB routinely says in his ECW articles that people love Matt Hardy. Well, I can tell you without having to copy and paste the same paragraph every week that Jeff Hardy is at that same level when it comes to fan base. So, essentially, it's face vs. face on paper, but watching "SmackDown!", it feels more like a face vs. heel feud.
Speaking of heel vs. heel, it's nice to see Brian Kendrick still getting some shine. "SmackDown!" needed main eveneters, and they needed heels. The pushing of Brian Kendrick helps solve both of those problems. The same goes for MVP, although it's been obvious for quite some time that he's going to be a main eventer sooner or later.
"SmackDown!" has two solid workers in Nattie and Victoria. Michelle is getting better, but still isn't to the level where I buy into her as a champion. The point I'm getting at is that the Butterfly division doesn't make sense, and they'd be better off to just have the Women's Champion appear on both shows, preferrably with her boyfriend in tow. Santino Marella twice a week? OOOOOOOOOO!
Poor Ron Killings. Same music, same look, same everything, except for the name. If Chris Benoit doesn't go nuts and kill his family, guarantee he'd be on TV as Ron Killings right now. That being said, he's still over (sorry, Dan), and he's hopefully going to get an extended feud against Shelton Benjamin. Both of these guys are good workers, so I'm looking forward to this. I'm not nuts about Shelton pussing out last night when Truth came down, though. Makes him look weakalaz.
I said for months that if they were going to have Kozlov run over everybody on "SmackDown!", they damn well better do something with him. Well, I guess the WWE sometimes would do good to listen to me, huh? Kozlov looks legit in the ring, and I think that if they use him properly, he could be a main event heel on "SmackDown!" for years to come. Props to WWE for waiting until this guy was ready, and then packaging and using him properly.
Chavo Guerrero beat Jimmy Wang Yang. The cowboy seems to be floating about in limbo ever since the Cruiserweight Championship was dissolved, which is a shame, because he's now falling into Scotty 2 Hotty and Funaki territory in terms of being used seldom and only in a jobber role. Chavo, meanwhile, does nothing for me. Bring back Kerwin White already!
The Undertaker storyline, I'm done with. Vickie needs to be off of my TV. You want a Big Show/Undertaker feud, that's fine, I'm down with that, but forget about the whole Vickie thing, because she's still awful on mic, and there's gotta be someone within that company who can do a better job as GM.
Finally, the brothers Colon won the tag team championships last night. They're working well as a team, and I again gotta give props to WWE for doing what made the most sense. They're entertaining to watch as a tag team, probably because they do have a lot of experience tagging in the past, and I think they're a great addition to a somewhat weak tag team division. Carlito's looking a lot like Ricky Ortiz with the baggy pants though. Also, does anybody else notice that Zack Ryder looks a LOT like Edge circa 2000? The hair, the mannerisms, the attire...it's kind of weird.
Tha results:
*Triple H & Jeff Hardy def. Montel Vontavious Porter & The Brian Kendrick
*Maria & Brie Bella def. Natalya & Victoria
*The Great Khali vs. Vladimir Kozlov-No Contest
*Chavo Guerrero def. Jimmy Wang Yang
*Carlito & Primo def. Curt Hawkins & Zack Ryder to win WWE Tag Team Championship
