Friday Night Fallout

I made the claim Wednesday that ECW is the A show, and while it's hard to give "Raw" or "SmackDown!" the edge as to which one is 2nd it is clear that "SmackDown!" has Edge.

Edge is a main event player, and fits into the role quite comfortably. The comment was made a while back that Edge's acting ability is from years of following and loving the product and I couldn't agree more. With no appearances by Undertaker the Hell in a Cell is still the most anticipated match in months. What Edge has done to build to this match has the expectations for the match extremely high.

When Shelton Benjamin and Jeff Hardy opens your show, you know you're in good shape. The match itself was stellar and went about 23 minutes, and as was customary months ago, "SmackDown!" had a better opening match than "Raw" had main event. That tradition continued this week. The entire show was interesting, but there will always be certain things that make you shake your head.

Things like Kenny Dykstra. Not the interruption, just Kenny Dykstra altogether. He was supposedly one of the most talented members of the Spirit Squad, and the only one retained by the E, and he was subsequently kept off of TV for months after failing to even get a reaction on "SmackDown," even by Victoria's side. So immediately upon being brought back to TV he is placed again with Triple H and jobbed out. I haven't had it 100% confirmed by anyone, but word is still that Dykstra's attitude is what held, and or holds him back.

Vickie Guerrero has definitely stepped it up with her selling of Edge's turn. Though Edge went from heel to hell heel it still constitutes as a turn, if only because he did it so well. I hope Vickie continues on in this capacity, and even though some people don't like her, she still gets a reaction, and in wrestling that matters. There have been terrible workers and characters over the years, but now more than ever if they get a reaction they stay employed in some capacity.

The Brian Kendrick is entertaining and interesting and this week he addressed the crowd once again. This is a streak of several weeks where he's had a mic, and almost everyone said he'd need a mic to get over, and he has everything in place, and he could very well have a Shawn Michaels like career ahead of him, without the World championships, or maybe with one short one on "SmackDown" but I doubt it, though I wouldn't object to seeing it.

Colt Cabana, Matt Classic, and now Scotty Goldman. Scott Colton is an entertaining individual and it has shown through with all his characters. Even his ten or fifteen second split screen "introduction" was funny. It may not do much to advance his career, but at least he got mic time. When the day comes to give him a push I hope the E realizes that they have a guy who is very capable of running with it. The ass bump manuever by Goldman is one that will go down as history as one of the greatest moves ever.

Big Zeke appears to have the potential to be on his own when they choose to Shawn Michaels/Diesel Kendrick and Zeke. One thing though, did I see Big Zeke hit the pounce period? Poor Monty Brown. Though when a guy's that big that move works anywhere. Why give Zeke a last name though? Did he really need to be Zeke Jackson? Aren't Michael, Janet, Tito, Freddy, Jermaine, and Action (just to name a few) enough Jackson's?

Quickly I need to touch on something. Kennedy has been injured again. We don't know for sure how long he will be out, but Kennedy just needs to stay away from "SmackDown." He was injured on "SmackDown" days before he was going to defeat Undertaker to win the World Heavyweight Championship, and subsequently drafted to "Raw" where he remained injury free for the most part. Just a few weeks back to "SmackDown!" he's hurt again. His job can't be too secure while racking up the injuries on "SmackDown!"

Back to the Edge/Taker/Vickie/Familia storyline. With Triple H on "SmackDown!" it was predicted by several that Edge would fade to the background, and while he still may do that, since the Draft Edge has remained the focal point of the show. He main evented a PPV with Triple H, and this Sunday at SummerSlam he will most likely main event SummerSlam. If Triple H vs. Khali goes on after the Hell in a Cell something is seriously wrong with the way they are structuring the cards.

character over the past few weeks has amped up considerably. Since his Cutting Edge segment with Mick Foley his character has kept the show interesting and kept the fans guessing. Another point of interest is which Edge we'll get when SummerSlam is over, or after his Undertaker feud concludes. Will we get the womanizing Edge or the evil hell bent Edge? Down the road when they show tapes of how to work a heel gimmick, this guy will be in the top five no doubt about it.

Quick results...
*Jeff Hardy def. Shelton Benjamin via DQ
*Natalya & Maryse def. Maria & Michelle
*The Brian Kendrick def. Scotty Goldman
*Triple H def. Kenny Dykstra
*Big Show def. Ryan Reddick
*Vladamir Kozlov def. Festus

I don't about the whole attitude thing, as I don't really care for much of what happens off screen. But I feel like Dykstra has a lot more potential then what we've seen on SD. Sometimes it's the small things. Take Kendrick for example, the big tough body guard, the music, the strut to the ring, and the commentators comparing him to the likes of Shawn Michaels and Brian Pilman. I think all those things help to make Kendrick look credible.

Now take Dykstra....firstly, his name is Dykstra, who wants to associate with anyone with that name. That is a horrible name. The manager he got was Victoria, and he still lost most of those matches.

While they're may be off screen conflicts, it's no doubt that Ken Doane hasn't been given the opportunity to prove himself. Spirit Squad was a big faction, they were the talk of RAW for a cool minute, and Doane was the head of that faction, so we know he can get some type of reaction.

Laslty, the guy looks a lot like Owen Hart. Not saying they should run with that, but having him return as Owen Doane wouldn't be a bad idea in my opinion. He wouldn't mock Owen or anything, he should just use the name, find his own persona though, which shouldn't be hard, as Doane looks like a natural bad guy.

Also, I'd like to tell all the smarks (who actually aren't smart) to stick it where the sun don't shine, because so many talked down on Kendrick's new role, and how it was stupid, but the guy is looking pretty good right now, which goes to show, that for most part, wrestling fans online, are a complete joke and deserve no respect, Rodney Dangerfield them geeks.

My first comment I really just wanted to get the Dykstra thing across.

Here though, I'd like to say that when MVP first appeared, I did not like the guy at all, I bashed him any chance I could get, I was a dumb smark who thought I know what was up. Now though, MVP looks really good, I like the new finisher, the guy is great to listen to on the mic, and I feel he's not too far away from a HW title run.

That Festus vs Kosloz match was pretty decent, with both of these guys appearing unbeatable, I didn't know who would win. I'm not a big fan of Kosloz because I feel like we've seen guys like this alot in WWE, and they always disappear after a few months.

Edge is a mad man, I'm really curious as to what's gonna go down in that cell.

Here's the thing about Kendrick. Everybody knows that he can go, we all saw when he and London were the tag champs and lit up Friday nights.

The reason many people were hard on Kendrick was because, at first, his new gimmick was that he wore a coat. He came out and didn't say a thing, but came out with a coat on and was subsequently put over as now being a heel. This actually ties into a point you made, where you said that we see a lot of guys who go on undefeated streaks, then fizzle out and are never seen again. Well, that's why. They win matches every week, sure, but they have next to no character behind them, and therefore fans don't find them compelling, and they eventually stop standing out. A coat does not stand out.

Eventually, yes, he was given time on the mic, he's developed his character very well, and he has been given weekly chances to shine, and I fully agree with you, he's looking pretty good right about now. Nobody said that he couldn't get over, but as you pointed out, WWE has a long and storied history of dropping the ball when it comes to letting people get over, and people were harsh in this case because people like Kendrick.
