Tuesday Night Turmoil: More To Come

On the heels of a three hour “Raw” that saw Vince nearly die…again, and some pretty big names change brands we get an episode of ECW that seemingly couldn’t have cared less about the brand extension. I understand that it’s the night after and everyone gets to say goodbye, so we’ll say that’s the reason.

Hopefully it won’t become a huge fiasco again. WWE needs to seriously commit to this. Keep “Raw” guys on “Raw,” “SmackDown” guys on “SmackDown” and ECW guys on ECW. Otherwise the brand split is what Donnie calls it, useless. Do away with it, or go with it.

I’m already sick of the Vince McMahon angle, because I realize that it’s going to be the main topic of conversation again, I just hope this time no “federal investigators” are brought in. Please God, let there be no federal investigators. Just wait for “SmackDown,” Vickie will cry and continue to draw the most heat in the company.

I like Teddy Long on ECW, it does add a little bit of legitimacy to the brand, and I think Teddy is an entertaining guy. He has an entertaining character, and it works well in the role of General Manager. I liked the “big” introduction of Matt Hardy. Matt is the only singles champ “exclusive” to the brand, plus it’s time he gets a big-time push.

Hardy teamed with former ECW champ, and ECW brand member CM Punk to take on and defeat John Morrison and the Miz, the WWE Tag Team Champions. I really dislike the fact that Morrison and Miz lost this match, but it makes sense. Hardy’s push and CM Punk’s farewell, I just hope Morrison and Miz come out victorious on Sunday at NOC.

Bwoop, Bwoop, Bwoop, Kofi Kingston (SOS) took on his only major rival Shelton Benjamin in an Extreme Rules match. The crowd didn’t really seem to be hugely supportive of Kofi, but that could be attributed to several factors, all of which I wont discuss, but leave up to you. I think Kofi is much improved lately, but he could be getting stale to some.

I enjoy seeing Extreme Rules matches on ECW. Even though it isn’t even close to the old ECW it is nice to see the name get some recognition. Shelton and Kofi both sold like champs throughout the match. I can see a Kofi/Hardy program and/or a Shelton/Hardy program sometime pretty soon.

I’ve voiced my approval for Evan Bourne the last few weeks, and will continue to do so. I really liked the fact that Knox was dominant but Bourne still squeezed in some offense. It really is nice to see someone the size of Bourne getting some valuable face time and not looking like a complete herb.

“SmackDown” superstar Big Show will take on “Raw” superstar and ECW Champion Kane. The ECW brands only championship is being fought over by two guys not even on the roster. That’s just funny, but it doesn’t really matter. Either way the ECW Champion will still be a regular on ECW and will be a big ass dude.

I’m not a big fan of Mark Henry, but I do think he will add an extra something to the match at NOC. A triple threat with those three may be enough to draw a few extra buys in the minds of those that drink the Vince McMahon Kool-Aid. Either way I see Big Show/Henry continuing for a while down the road. I don’t really know where Kane goes from here though.

There are several places to go after this, but the biggest question, with reports of a Supplemental Draft occurring later today (Wednesday) a superstar could be drafted to ECW that could serve as a possible future champion a little later, but why not just use who you already have? Someone like Shelton Benjamin.

Finlay, or even the return of Big Daddy V, who if in accordance with the E’s wishes will be just Daddy V if he loses like 40-50 pounds could be a possible champion, would work well in the Supplemental Draft. This Draft should also be pretty interesting considering the mid-low card guys were completely forgotten on “Raw.”

This weeks ECW was a pretty good mix of night after and build to. Hopefully this was the last of the large amounts of brand-integration but most likely not.

Tha Results…
*Matt Hardy & CM Punk def. Miz & Morrison
*Kofi Kingston def. Shelton Benjamin
*Mike Knox def. Evan Bourne
*Mark Henry def. ECW Champion Kane (non-title)

Good recap/review. Tonight there was magic in the air, because for the first time ever, I became a Mike Knox fan. The beard is a great touch, and he should keep his hair at that length, add that with his aggressive (non WWE) style of wrestling, and this guy is easily my pick to be the top ECW heel/animal. His opponents look good against him if they need to, but if he's meant to go over, he gets himself over quite well in my opinion.

I liked the Kofi/Shelton feud, but it's the only feud that seems to go on forever with no real benefit, which is probably why Kofi is kinda losing steam as a face (except for the fact that Shelton is the man, so I can see why fans may have a hard time no liking him over Kofi).

I liked the high five Punk/Hardy did as they did bulldogs, lol.

I'm wondering how long M&M will stay together before Morrison makes it back to singles stardom. The guy is easily a future top heel on the top brand.

I liked the show for the most part, but I feel like Kane and Show look out of place on ECW. Don't put guys like that on ECW as if to say "we're trying to show that this brand matters", when you know it really doesn't in comparison to the other two. So just let it be a training ground for new talents. It's like having your own crops in the back, ECW can be WWE's crops of talent, forget about the OVW type promotions.
