Put bluntly, last night's "Raw" was good. It had the feeling that a lot of guys who may have been underused in the past were about to finally get a push of some sort. However, it also had the feel of other wrestlers being held back, or, as Dan coined, "put under".Tonight, Jeff Hardy did something he has done little of in his career...he talked. Jeff held his own on the mic (telling off Vince McMahon, the true pedigree of a main eventer), but I almost think that he might be a "less is more" kind of guy. Keep his promos short, simple, and to the point. Jeff Hardy is a guy whose ring work can clearly speak volumes for itself.
I don't know if the comparison to Saddam was used as a way of plugging "Tribute To The Troops", but either way, my point from earlier this year has been proven. How many times is Vince going to run a "I'm losing my mind" storyline? On the plus side, WWE has opened the door for a new superstar to be born overnight. Bear with me on this-
Vince is always having these angles where he sinks into madness/depression. So, introduce a new wrestler whose gimmick is that he's a pharmacist. Vince gets copious amounts of Zoloft and Prozac, and out of gratitude, gives the superstar title match after title match. Oh, man, what a sweet idea. How awesome am I?
The man who claimed to be closer to Vince than anyone, Triple H, really seems to be putting aside his ego lately. First he puts over Jeff Hardy, and now, it seems that he's set to put over Ric Flair in two weeks on the New Year's Eve edition of "Raw". As for tonight, Ric Flair faced a guy who is being constantly put under in Umaga. At this point last year, Umaga was still undefeated, and was heading into a main event match to face John Cena for the title. Now, he hasn't won a match ever since he got with his hand in the syringe jar. I suppose the upside here is that it was a loss by count-out, which makes Umaga seem like less of a job machine.
Getting back to Triple H, he faced Coach and William Regal in a Handicap Match tonight. This match seemed pointless from all aspects. Can we turn this guy heel already so he can stop trying to do these comedy spots? I suppose that as long as he's not burying everyone under the sun, I don't care.
The Great Santino Debate seems to now be a thing of the past, and it would seem that those who sided with Dan were right after all. Those wins meant nothing in the means of getting him over, and were just filler until they figured out something to do with him. He is now involved in a tag team with Carlito. Looking into my crystal ball (which is much different than looking into Donnie's balls, which Frank likes to do), I would imagine that these two men will be the next tag team champions. Apparently WWE really doesn't care about tag team wrestling, as both titles are held by makeshift teams. Oh, well. At least we got to hear the great line from Santino last night-"My partner likes to swap spit with those who aren't cool!" Classic.Okay, I think certain people may have misinterpreted my point about JBL last night. I am very excited to see JBL wrestling again, and thought the segment with he and Y2J last night was great. However, I also think that this program should not be on "Raw". Jibbles is a "SmackDown!" guy, and the roster on that show is far thinner than that of its Monday night counterpart. Let this feud take place on "SmackDown!", which is in worse need of star power.
Getting back to Jeff Hardy, he was involved in the main event, along with Shawn Michaels, Mr. Kennedy, and Randy Orton. It would seem that Michaels and Kennedy will be feuding for at least a little while longer, which is always good. I don't understand the insistence of some people that Kennedy shouldn't be getting exposure. Back when Randy first won the World Heavyweight Championship back in 2004, people thought he didn't deserve the spot. However, through being put in big feuds and gaining experience, he continues to get better everyday, and he has truly earned the spot he has right now.
How is Kennedy ever going to take his game to the next level if he's stuck feuding with midcarders and curtain jerkers? If the company really believes in him, and believes that he can get over, this is smart booking. Let him play with the big boys; a trial by fire is often a great way to teach someone. Over time, he'll get more acquainted with that spot, and he'll get better and better, until he's at a level like Randy Orton is now.
As for the match itself, Hardy went over. I'm hopeful that the third time is the charm here. I'm really hoping that Jeff Hardy has cleaned up his act for good, and that he's going to be around for a long time, and that he's finally going to break the glass ceiling. However, a lot of that is going to be based on whether or not WWE drops the ball on this current push. I don't expect him to win the championship at Royal Rumble, but as long as he isn't one-and-done in the main event, that's fine. After all, Shawn Michaels lost his first title match at WrestleMania, and I think he turned out fine.Tha Results:

Does anyone remember the article I wrote a long, long time ago about Triple H needing to put over new talent and allow the new faces and next generation to shine. It's finally happened.
I know that Jeff wont be Maining Mania, and I know he wont be wearing the Big Gold anytime, soon but it's nice to know that it'll be teased for a while.
This wasn't a great Raw, it wasn't a terrible Raw, it was a...weird Raw.
Memo to Ken Kennedy: Throw away those tights, grey/green or olive green or whatever the fuck that was....bad!
I'm glad that SantinO has a partner who swaps spit with people who dont want to be cool. Santino has a purpose now. SWEET!
The pop to the head that Triple H did with the knucks to Coach was funny as hell. I don't really know what to make of all this right now. What's he doing? Is he staying face to get a bigger pop when he wins the WWE title? It's all very weird right now. It's like singing showtunes at a Patriots game, right Plunkett?
Did anyone else think Vinny Mac was going to go suicidal on us again?
I maybe the minority in this, but I really did not enjoy last night's RAW. I appreciate that Hardy is getting the Main push. I'm interested in the Flair angle. However, everything else on the show was crap to me. The women's match was crap (Michelle McCool is sex personified, but her work is the shits.) The McMahon segment was painful...and I had my DVR forwarding through the "slow" parts! I'm starting to hate on Cody Rhodes and it's not really even his fault. I hate that he's shoved upon us while Harry Smith is sitting on the sidelines. Ric Flair looks like he's going to have a heartache for real after every match he has. Jericho looked pathetic to me even with JBL helping him along. The E really needs to stop the whole "booking the guy that's losing at the PPV" with the tag team wins on RAW. Even the regular marks can see it a mile away, now.
The proof is in the pudding of what Dan and many of us have been saying about Santino...there is nothing that says, "We've got no idea what to do with you" more than getting stuck in the tag team "division" and stuck with Carlito ontop of that. The thing is, these two guys might be able to make something of it, but that doesn't mean they were placed together to do so (think Booker T and Goldust. Stuck together, but turned it into something).
I really wish Vince would take himself off TV. It's beyond clear he's not what people want to see anymore. People watched last week because it was a good show, not because Vince got socko'ed, chokeslammed, and stunned.
Does anyone think that this storyline is one of the reasons why vince wanted to keep carlito around? It seems like it might have been in the works for awhile, with santino jobbing out every week, to have the team be carlito carrying the weight and santino leeching off his wins.
No offense, Matt, but I think that's highly unlikely. Carlito was doing an enhancement talent before he was jobbing to the little bastard and had nothing remotely to do with Santino's segments. As far we've seen on TV, the two never spoke to one another until last night. We know WWE doesn't do subtle storylines and for this to be planned for awhile, we'd see an obvious build to it at some point previously. This was a "Let's see...Santino is an ethnic gimmick and we're lost about how to book him...Carlito is an ethnic gimmickand we're lost as to how to book him...I think I smell tag team! Brilliant! Now, I think we should make Vince have another breakdown. We haven't done this in weeks...it's all new, again!" I really F'n wish E's writers were still considered screen writers and were on strike.
Happy birthday Stone Cold.
Randy "I'm keeping the belt warm for HHH" Orton looks like a guy holding a championship belt instead of a World Champion.
Rey Mysterio thinks he's a poorly booked champion.
I don't think a character pushing pills will sit well with the stockholders.
Hardy really should've kept talking when vince began to cower in the corner.
There's no such thing as putting Ric Flair over... Though the rumors of Flair going all the way to WM with this win streak are rampant... It is possible HHH makes a Heel-turn by insinuatiing (sp?) he's going to lay down for Flair... then stealing the win... This match is in Greensboro, where MANY, MANY classic Flair matches have taken place... just a thought
Santino is still on TV... and they're setting up a feud between the two...thats just how i perceived it...
I think Jeff has already shattered that glass ceiling... he's getting a big title match at my 2nd favorite "Big 4 PPV"... even if history goes on to repeat itself and he doesnt go over... which is likely, it's still lightyears ahead of where we thought he'd be 3 years ago.
As far as Vince, are they really going to rehash the sane storyline pre-Benoit Tragedy?
I agree with your jeff hardy comment comparing him to HBK. Putting him in the main event level now, and not winning the title wont hurt him at all. HBK was in the main event for over a year before he won vs Bret Hart at WM13. So Hardy losing wont kill him, he as already done good by defeating HHH. However, if they WANT people to really believe he is a main event guy, and that he can actually beat Orton, they have to take the IC title off him ASAP. Him having the IC title at The Rumble, no one wil leven think twice that he will beat Orton. But i dont know who he should drop it to, I was thinking Carlito, but i dunno what the hell the Carlito/Santion thing is going. Honestly, i hope it was a one night thing, but who knows...
Let's set the record straight.
Shawn Michaels first WWF Title match was at the 1992 Survivor Series.
