This week, the show opened up with our new " Hardcore Dictator"... Armando Alejandro Estrada. And instead of opening the program with a 20 minute segment with "surprise" interuptions, and lack-luster promos, he gives a match... an "Extreme Rules" match at that! Now I'm not a real mark for weapons matches with no program build-up, but the general audience is and that's who they should be appeasing.
Sure it was a basic Big Daddy V squash on Tommy Dreamer, but at least ECW is possibly trying to live up to the gimmick that trademarked the initials that fans have chanted for over a decade that inspired WWE's new brand that we have came to know as Tuesday Night Extreme. Pardon the rant and the run-on sentence, but after this show I'm rather hyped for the new ECW.
Now, I'm not sure who it was that made the comment a week or so back about Elijah Burke bringing the same match week in and week out, but I have to ask... How do you like my boy now?!
In a losing effort to Balls Mahoney this week Burke brought on a high impact, well calculated, well thought out, with a dash of comedy, quality match. FROM BALLS MAHONEY! When was the last time you saw a bite attack in a televised WWE match? And then he pled to the referee he was giving him a kiss! As the kids say LOL!!!
And mad props to Balls Mahoney; he gave a decent comedy bit with Vince backstage and put on a pretty good match this week. If this is more than a fluke, maybe Balls could become a modern-day "American Dream" Dusty Rhodes, minus the incredible workrate. In the real world Balls is just an overgrown, tattoed moron; but if they stay with this push and put Kelly Kelly on his arm... Who knows? He could become an inspiration to
out-of-shape, toothless rejects everywhere.
Onto even better things...
Maybe the absolute best tag-team match in Tuesday Night Extreme's short history was brought to us last night: CM Punk and Boogeyman versus John Morrison and The Miz. Now I think I can assure you that this is the first time anyone has put The Miz, Boogeyman and best match all in one sentence... but it's true. Don't bother asking about the drainage... my nose is clean.
CM Punk put on a stellar performance last night. Talk about being %100 in the zone, this guy was an absolute all-star in this match and I think the other three guys were feeding off of his energy. Real tag-team psych mixed with quick action and a few highspots... ¡Muy bueno!
We saw a nice preview of the upcoming ECW title match between Punk and Morrison this sunday, but I really have to give it up to Boogeyman. This guy has really stepped it up in my opinion. Some people are stuck with their first impressions of Boogeyman, but I think he's really starting to click.
And aside from the botched "catapault" spot (which is the absolute worst "move" in all of pro wrestling), The Miz looked like an actual wrestler out there. I'm not drinking the preverbial Kool-Aid either. As the original ECW messiah, Paul Heyman, once said "Accent the positive, hide the negative." The Miz, if used properly, may just become a legitmate singles wrestler one day, but until then they should continue using him in these tag-team matches until he really becomes comfortable on this stage.
Well O-sters, that's all the rant I have in me this week. But before I go, I want to suggest that all of you order Dan-e-o's new CD; if only for the track titled "Dear Hip-Hop" (2007). After listening to this song, I'm convinced this is the best hip-hop track released in the past 5 years. And this is coming from a guy that swore off hip-hop(for the most part) over 10 years ago.

First Stevie starts getting wins, now Balls Mahoney. Many months ago, Frank wrote an article against parity booking. However, with how small the ECW roster is, I think it's necessary to have the originals go over now and then. Weekly squahes become boring.
I'm hoping Marcus Cor Von comes back sometime soon. Did he get injured or released or something? Last I knew, he was given some personal time off because of a death in the family that he took pretty hard, but he's been gone for a while now.
Cor Von took time off to deal with a family tragedy...
I laughed out loud during both Vince backstage bits, moreso for CM Punk than Balls. I sat there thinking, "Dude, Vince just got owned." Finally a glimmer of what people mean when they say Punk was mic skillz.
Last I knew that was the story, but it was starting to seem like he had been gone a long time, so I wasn't sure if it was still that or if there was something else going on as well. Thanks for clearing that up, Donnie.
for the very first time CM punk made me a fan. Both in ring and his back stage skit.
You're right, Punk was absolutely an all-star last night. ECW is looking hella good.
The part I loved the most was Balls winning, not only did this deviate from the norm of Original squashes but set up what could be a cool feud. That, plus Stevie and Thorn's feud, makes ECW the most well developed wrestling program on television. Strong feuds, and great working.
So am I the only who's not comfortable with the fact that Elijah Burke jobbed to Balls Mahoney?? WTF.
Learn the definition of a "job" Dizz.
Now i know you've all heard about D Lo Brown coming back to Raw....i think he needs to go to ECW badly....they could definetly use him as a main eventer there....if his work today is indicative of the work he did in TNA....then da brother could flat out go in the ring...put him against Punk, Burke, or Nitro...and you are bound to get 4 star match in ECW....so air-head mcmahon....stephanie...needs to wake up and decide to put this guy in ECW...because he would just get lost in da shuffle on RAW.
Whatever, you fuckin know-it-all smark. I was just saying, why have have Balls beat one the guys who's putting the new ECW on the map. Let Miz job to him since they're in somewhat of a feud. Elijah Burke is main event status. He should NOT be losing to fuckin Balls Mahoney out of all people. Tommy Dreamer maybe. It's just bad.
Burke taking the loss to Balls elevates Mahoney much more than beating Dreamer. He'll get his program and win over Miz, but Burke is more legitimate, even to marks.
And considering that Burke has been on a roll for the past who-knows-how-long, he's not currently in the title picture, so it's not damaging in the least. The finish was merely a roll up anyways. It's not that big a deal. I'm a big Elijah mark, I don't think anyone pops for him like i do around here, but I don't see this as a bad thing at all.
Yeah when i look at back on it, it's all good for the direction of the show. I over-reacted. My bad bro.
