The Toyota Center in Houston, Texas played host to possibly the biggest upset in UFC history.
Matt Serra shocked the world just moments ago, by knocking out the seemingly unstoppable Georges St. Pierre.
The fight started slowly with GSP looking very calm. A quick exchange of shots resulted in a right hand by Serra slipping in. GSP slipped and Serra capitalized. When GSP regained his footing, Serra was on him like stink on shit.
At 3:25 of the first freakin' round, the Welterweight Title had a new owner. Matt "The Terror" Serra. Unreal.
This match was expected to end in the first round, but with the opposite result. Strangely enough, the other part of the co-main event (expected by many to be a match of the year candidate) did not deliver at all what we expected.
Josh Koscheck beat that mouthy little bitch Diego Sanchez by decision in what can only be called the worst UFC fight of 2007.
Sanchez cut many a promo leading up to this fight talking about how he wasn't afraid to get hit... He looked bloody terrified against Kos.
Kos stood up with Dirty Sanchez, just measuring and scoring with shots while defending Sanchez's offensive attempts. Truth is, Sanchez had more offence during the official weigh-in when he two hand shoved Kos (nearly off the stage).
Sanchez suffers his first loss, even though I'm not sure he ever actually started fighting.
Other results:
Luke Cummo defeated Josh Haynes by KO at 2:45 of Round 2
Marcus Davis defeated Pete Spratt by Ankle Lock Submission at 2:57 of Round 2
Thales Leites defeated Pete Sell by Unanimous Decision
Heath Herring defeated Brad Imes by Unanimous Decision
Kendall Grove defeated Alan Belcher by D'Arce Choke at 4:42 of Round 2
Yushin Okami defeated Mike "Quick" Swick by Unanimous Decision
Roger Huerta defeated Leonard Garcia by Unanimous Decision

that is a crock of fuckin shit. hogan mustve been right or maybe ufc isnt fixed but wtf im fuckin shocked im glad i didnt go to the bar and watch this
hell maybe it isnt fixed or w/e im just really pissed off. i shouldve stayed on hughes bandwagon like i have been for the last 4 years jesus christ
I am in complete shock. I can't believe how many upsets there have been this year in MMA, this just adds to it.
The aura that Sanchez brought to the octagon is now gone. He didnt' command this fight and didn't seem to have the confidence he usually does.
I still think Serra will be a weak champ and does not have any kind of superstar presence like Hughes and GSP did. To make a wrestling comparison, Serra still looks indy, no matter how talented he is.
While others will talk about how shocking the Serra upset was, I choose to share a humorous story about the fight.
I was at a sports bar to view the fights because frankly I don't have the cash to watch it otherwise and after the Bobby Lindsey like impact the Diego/Josh fight had the bar of drunks (Who had probably been there since the start of the leafs game) started to buzz.
As GSP was introduced a large "St. Pierre!" chant rang through the bar as he bounced down to the ring in his Japanese garbs.
After Serra showed GSP the door another St. Pierre chant was started, this time by a smaller portion of the bar and myself mocking the earlier GSP chant.
Without the Serra upset this show might have been a dud (Based of course on the upper card alone, the Huerta fight was an entertaining beat down but not a great fight), but Serra rose above the ashes of the Diego/Josh fight like a magnificent phoenix and reminded us all why we love MMA so much.
Too bad he'll be rocked in his first defense.
Wow. I don't follow UFC that closely, but even I knos this is a huge upset.
Maybe Frank can beat GSP after all.
lol frank still cant beat GSP. GSP is a fucking monster im still in shock this morning that the man lost
Happiest guy lasr night was Matt Hughes
lol mustve matt can eat hughes for breakfast, i hope kos doesnt get a shot before him
I don't know too much about UFC but I realized it was a big deal when SportsCenter talked about it. Great way to get mainstream attention.
G-S-P did the J-O-B on a P-P-V...
man that almost sounds familiar
Seems the UFC can't keep a title on anybody long enough to promote 'em. I don't know, but after what Hogan said I have been watching UFC alittle differently. I'm really starting to think that this is an actual work. I mean, everyone pretty much had Serra put down as meat for GSP. I'm starting to think that either they are trying to build up the Ultimate Fighter show or somebody in Vegas with a very italian last name just made a lot of money
i doubt its a work. did you see the fight man he got a lucky punch in to the back of GSP's head and then GSP slipped.ANYONE can land a punch to knock someone out it doesnt matter who it is ANYONE can get lucky. now if tito beat chuck in december then id think alot differently but come on even i could go in there and maybe get lucky and knock someone out
and another thing if it was a work the diego vs kosdicksucker wouldnt of been a 15 min power nap
Mr del negro, thank you for joining me in that opinion, and joining my team of guys that buryme hates.
