In Honor Of A Wizard's Father

This is a brief piece to pay respect to the father of a great man. Gordo, The Wizard Of Id is perhaps the greatest champion for Ontario Independent Wrestling. He is a mainstay at virtually every indy show across the province, he is a staunch supporter of women’s wrestling and is a defender of the business in an era where many simply try to discredit it. He is a massive contributor to the Declaration Of Independents, and has an uncanny sense of humor.

Gordo, who has worked for many indies as a manager, ring announcer or colour commentator is always willing to help out. Anytime Dan-e-o and I attend an event, you can be sure you’ll hear his megaphone like voice belting out “O SHOW IN THAAA HOOOOOUSE!

It is with a heavy heart and much sympathy that I inform you that Gordo’s father passed away earlier today.

I haven’t yet spoken to Gordo, (although, he did send me an email just prior to finding out about his dad) but from what some of his closer friends in the biz (and he has a lot of them) have told me, the older Id had battled cancer for the past twenty years, and was suffering horribly from Alzheimer’s Disease.

I never met Gordo’s dad. Truth be told, I don’t even know the gentleman’s name… but to quote Bloody Bill Skullion “if he was responsible for conceiving the Wiz, he must have been a helluva character.”

On behalf of all of us here at Tha O Show , our deepest condolences go to Gordo, Mrs. Id and the entire family.

You can contact Gordo yourself and extend your best wishes to him during this difficult time.

My sincere heartfelt condolences go out to Gordo and his family.

Knowing Gordo, if his dad was anything like his son, we've lost a truly great person.
