Good for WWE. I honestly have to hand it to them. They never ever miss a Martin Luther King Jr. day without acknowledging this great man. Year in and year out, they begin their programming with a tribute to Dr. King on his birthday. Although, he had nothing to do with professional wrestling, Martin Luther King continues to be properly honoured by the E. Just as the rest of the country (world, really) should be doing on this day.
On to business...there may just be another reason to say "good for WWE" this week. In an effort to say as many positive things about the product on "Raw" - especially after last week's debacle - I will do my best to comment on what was positive about last night's edition. And I gotta start with Carlito.
Wrestling fans and O-sters everywhere writhed in symbolic agony after witnessing Carlito's lame loss to Chris Masters at New Year's Revolution. Masters now seems to have done no better than to re-begin what may be considered a feud with Super Crazy. Carlito, we all thought, was taking a free fall from what was considered a push. Has the E put back on their thinking caps in place of the dunce caps worn last week?
What could possibly be a better way to get a guy over then to have him feud with the pinnacle of evil himself - Mr. Vince McMahon? Hell, if the entire Rosie/Trump 'skit' was simply the precursor to a Carlito/McMahon feud, then I just may be willing to take back all the nasty things I said and thought about it (well, maybe not ALL of those things).
The letter written by Donald Trump (kayfabe) and read by Vinnie Mac said what, I can only imagine, EVERY real wrestling fan was thinking. To paraphrase...WWE fans want to see exciting in-ring action and not poor attempts at satirical comedy. To reiterate...enough with the bullshit!! (By the way, anyone else notice that last night on "Raw", McMahon continually referred to his own company as something that sounded like "Dubba-da-bee"? What was with that?).
If this is setting up a Carlito VS. Mr. McMahon match for Royal Rumble...or better yet, WrestleMania 23 after a well-worked two and a half month program...then Carlito will be back on top of the professional wrestling world by the spring.
Now "Raw", of course, wasn't perfect last night. I'm not sure why Kenny had to put Ric Flair over after defeating Naitch three times in a row. Are they going to actually push this kid or not? Give him some fresh meat and allow for a somewhat reasonable winning streak to ensue. Geez.
As well, why are we supposed to believe that Rated RKO can inevitably be decimated by a solo HBK? Forget that they're the World Tag-Team Champions, Edge and Orton are both former WWE/World Champs and are among the elite on the WWE roster. Now, Shawn Michaels is also clearly at the top of the food chain...but I don't care who it is...I always hate it when the '1' in a '2 on 1' Handicap Match is able to get the upper hand when the match is finished. It just isn't logical.
Whoops, I was supposed to only comment on the positives about last night's "Raw"...man, this would be a lot easier if I was writing about "SmackDown!". Now that show - as has been recently praised here on Tha O Show - definitely deserves a "good for WWE".

of course hbk couldnt take out rated rko in a logical sense...thats one of the appeals of wrestling... underdogs always have a chance... honestly, if you thought rated rko were just gonna dominate and that was it... then you mustve tuned in for the first time ever last night
I was amazed Vinnie Mac acknowledged the fact that he put out some major league crap last week. Somehow I think this is gonna lead to Mcmahon with Khali vs. Trump and Hogan and Carlito nowhere to be found.
Is there a point to Kenny still feuding with Flair? Is there a point to Flair still "wrestling". No disrespect or anything, but all the man does nowadays is chop, whoo and figure four. Even Lawler starts chuckling every time he goes up top.
Man I was really hoping for a new DX member but they seem adamant about keeping it to just HBK & HHH.
Overall not a bad show, more wrestling than skits, which is always good.
3 1/2 O's out of 5?
Watch the video again - cuz in real time i CLEARLY saw Masters fingers seperated ... marking the second time this actually happened... first time was by HBK...
Ben I watched it too and Donnie's right. Simmons shoulders come down and if you look behind Masters hands are about 5 or 6" apart and that was before Crazy ever showed up.
Does it matter if it was broken or not? I seriously doubt anyone gives a rat's ass about the Full Nelson Challenge. Masterlock my ass!
Yes it does matter its Master's entire ffucking characterr
Goes to show how badly he needs an overhaul
