Final Resolution Results

Christian Cage is the NWA Heavyweight Champion once again. After an incredibly overbooked main event that featured ref bumps, tons of outside interference and a turn, Christian walked away with the gold.

The monster and defending champion Abyss was eliminated from this match in just over five minutes. Amazing. This is the type of booking that makes me nuts.

For years we’ve been conditioned to believe that Abyss is a near indestructible force. His first title reign ended with about as much fan fare as it started (remember he won the title when Sting was disqualified).

Sting worked hard in this match, using Cage’s own Unprettier against him. Christian’s boy Tomko nailed Sting with a TKO. When the ref was distracted, Abyss came back into the ring to try to exact some revenge on the Stinger. He laid him out, giving CC the chance to hit his Frog Splash for the win.

I will admit, it’s kinda cool that the guy is now a two time world champion and is still undefeated in TNA.

This sets up the next big program which will be between the new champ and his old friend, Kurt Angle (who won his Iron Man match with Samoa Joe).

Angle and Joe went at it for 30 minutes. First, Joe made Angle tap to a choke. Then Angle made Joe tap twice to the ankle lock. Joe evened up the score when he pinned Kurt following a Muscle Buster. Angle won the final fall when he reversed a German into a Victory Roll. The match ended when Joe caught Angle with an ankle lock of his own. As the clock ticked down, Joe grapevined the leg and cranked harder. Angle tapped at 30:01…Meaning it was after the bell, and he won the match 3-2.

Personally, I hate the fact that these guys can have a 25 minute match on one PPV where they battle like hell for one win, but here they had five falls in that span of time. Somehow, it just seems to cheapen their characters to me. Had it been a traditional Iron Man Match (an hour long) I think it would be bother me a lot less.

So now, even though Angle said no rematch after their second bout, he got one to avenge a loss. Now, the Samoan Submission Machine has to walk around as the loser of this feud? It just doesn’t sit well with me.

You can bet the farm that Angle will end Cage’s undefeated streak and wear another World Title.

Also on the show…

As was expected, Bob Backlund was there for the finals of the PCS. He was absolutely hilarious. Here’s hoping TNA keeps him around.

Alex Shelley won the match defeating Austin Starr in Sudden Death overtime when the time expired and the judges ruled it to be a draw. After the match, Austin Starr cut a decent promo, preserving his character and pitting himself against the whole world.
He got Backlund’s cross face chicken wing for shootin his mouth off. Sweet.

Rhino and AJ Styles shockingly jerked the curtain. Their Last Man Standing Match was pretty sick. After a pair or unreal Gores, AJ struggled to get up before the 10 count. When the count got to 9, he looked at Rhino and basically said, fuck it. He decided to sit down and hand Rhino the match. This match was about 15 minutes long and also featured several near falls.

Chris Sabin defeated Christopher Daniels and Jerry Lynn to win the X Division Title again.

LAX retained their titles when Team 3D were disqualified due to interference from a seemingly drunk Brother Runt.

James Storm scored a cheap win on Petey Williams.

VKM cut a promo declaring themselves the victors in their feud with WWE. Christy Hemme tried to get the crowd behind by interrupting and saying she was sick of not being appreciated and wanted so bad to wrestle and blah blah blah. Kip called her a slut and the crowd popped.

On the pre-show:

Raven caned the hell out of Devine. Not sure why.

Chase Stevens worked Hoyt and somehow lost. No, he didn’t just lose… he lost in two FREAKIN’ minutes! So much for his push.

Overall a good show, albeit incredibly overbooked.

face it, the people werent "feeling" abyss... so they canned his title run... quickly albeit... with all that he offers, hes still a bit stale for viewers...
i think part of the reason is, he doesnt speak... so james mitchell gets over, it doesnt convey well for the purpose of putting Abyss over... and without the extra few inches (ie:Taker) he doesnt astonish and overwhelm the crowd... its sad but true...

i like abyss, much like any "real" wrestling fan... im glad he had a title run... he went through alot to get there, not to mention his loyalty to the company and the product... but lets face it, hes TNA's Kane... and theres nothing wrong with that
did i mention how im the biggest christian cage mark?

I thought the Ironman was done fairly well, Joe not getting the win can still play to his favor. Since it seems like Angle is set to take the NWA title, it will give Joe an underdog feel for when the two meet for the title. Its always better to see someone win the title while being the underdog then someone heading in with a lot of steam.
And on as for the amount of falls in the match. That is just how Ironman matches go. Well all except one. Steamboat/Rude ended 4-3 in a 30 min. bout when the two had many matches prior that went and easy twenty minutes. Michaels/Angle was the same with 2-2 when the two had two classic matches that year that went well beyond twenty minutes each. With the idea that you only have 30 or 60 min's to gain as many falls as you can the pace is increased a bit and a strategy is formed that isn't seen in many other matches.

I agree that an Iron Man should have the least amount of falls possible. I think they've built up angle too much. He's ended Joe's streak, holds more victories over him and is now set for the belt.
You know why the E is succesfull? They don't bring in outside talent and build em up as big as TNA has done with Angle (or Cage, hell even Tomko is in the main event picture now, albeit on the side)
Don't get me started on VKM. They went to a house show and got saluted by Hunter. They challenged Michaels at the Alamo and even they didn't show up. James boys, if you can't wrestle anymore, take a backstage position and let other guys get you promo time.
