Words From Stro: "Piper, Lady Amazon, And More"

The following column was written by The Stro formerly WCW star, 'The Maestro'. The Stro is a star on the independent wrestling circuit and a regular contributor to Tha O Show.

Hi everyone! Welcome to another edition of the "WFS". This year is just flying by with Thanksgiving and Christmas almost here. As usual, I am always late on shopping on gifts. But if all goes well, I should have a bit of a head start this year. Now on with the column.

I get asked often about how someone should get started in the wrestling business in my travels. This is a tough industry with a lot to keep in mind. But I will give just a few bits of friendly advice.

1) Get trained properly at a professional wrestling school. The ring is very unforgiving with a very high risk of injury. Someone is isn't trained is a liability to themselves and others. The ring is a truth sirum in which you can't hide ability. Trust me...fans,wrestlers, and others do notice. So take time and learn from your trainers and peers.

2) Respect the veterans. Always respect the elders of the industry. If a veteran wants to give you advice..listen! Especially a veteran willing to help with your training. Disrespecting them will only be disrespecting yourself.

3) Wrestling gear. Fans pay to see wrestlers, not to see someone who dresses like the kid next door. Even the wrestling characters of this business wear proper boots, padding, and look the part. So look like a wrestler.

4) Friends. If you make a friend in the industry, be a true friend. Not because of status or being cool. The business can be very fleeting and can change at a drop of a hat. The same people you will meet on your way up will be the same ones you will see when you come down.

Just some food for thought.

I would like to extend my thoughts and prayers to my friend Lady Amazon who is recovering from an automobile accident last week. Lady Amazon is one of the greats in the wrestling industry and was the only female trained by the late Tojo Yammamoto. You can send your thoughts and wishes to Lady Amazon through her website at:

Would like to thank the Unknown Soldier and everyone at GWA for having me down at their event this past Saturday night in Enigma, Georgia. I had a great time seeing all the fans and wrestlers there. I do hope to return there again soon.

I will be returning to Roseboro, North Carolina this Saturday night for ACPW. It will be great to see the great fans of Roseboro there as I have had some great matches there. NWA legend George South will also be there and I look forward to seeing him again.

"Rowdy" Roddy Piper's new DVD has come out this week. I am going to try to go get a copy to check it out. The Rowdy one was quite popular here in the Mid-Atlantic / Georgia area many years ago. It will be great to check out some of his great matches and feuds that he has had over the years.

I was in a tag team cage match against Jake "The Snake" Roberts in Shallotte, North Carolina. I was climbing the cage when Jake reaches up to grab me, but in the process pulls down my tights! So I'm "mooning" the crowd trying to escape the cage. I pulled my tights up and kicked him back to the mat. I took off his snakeskin boot and started hitting him in the head with it. He can't move cause he is immobile still laughing about pulling my tights down while I'm hitting him with his own boot.
