Losing It On "Raw"

"Losing it". That was the theme of last night's edition of "Raw". It wasn't a bad "Raw". It was fairly entertaining...but pretty strange at the same time. It just seemed that too many people were...well, 'losing it'.

For example, am I just not privy to some inside information about Ric Flair? He seemed to have been 'losing it' at the end of his match with DX against The Spirit Squad. As Triple H and Shawn Michaels continually hugged him, he openly got emotional. Was the teary-eyed Flair preparing for his seemingly-never-coming retirement? Perhaps, his impending beatdown at the hands of Edge and Randy Orton later in the show reflected the beginning of a hiatus for Flair.

But even stranger than that...

THE SPIRIT SQUAD IS LOSING IT.

It is no secret that The Spirit Squad have been perennial whipping boys since entering WWE. Sure, they had a somewhat meaningless run as tag-team champions, but as discussed in the "Sour Survivor Series" article, they all too often get their asses handed to them. Last night's "Raw" continued with this trend. WWE's creative team has been 'losing it' with these guys for a while.

Perhaps...and this may just be wishful thinking...having DX ship the male cheerleaders off back to OVW is exactly what is needed. Literally. The Spirit Squad as an entity on WWE TV has been buried so deeply, the boys may just need to be re-packaged completely in order to garner any measure of respect and credibility upon their return.

I guess Hunter meant it when he said that we'll never see The Spirit Squad again. And thank God. When we DO see the members of what used to be The Spirit Squad again, hopefully they'll be given the opportunity to show their true talents and shine as they deserve.

J.R. IS LOSING IT.

Big Daddy Donnie mentioned this in a comment...as I forgot to mention it in the article regarding Survivor Series: Poor old Jim Ross is slippin' folks. I will be the first to say that Ross is one of, if not the best play-by-play man in the history of professional wrestling...but he's getting some kind of weirdo form of Alzeimer's.

This was most evident during the segment in which Jerry "The King" Lawler took on Chris Masters. Before the match and after Edge and Orton left Ric Flair a bloody mess, J.R. goes "It's really a damn shame what DX did to arguably the greatest in-ring performer of all time". "You mean Orton and Edge", replies Lawler. At one point, J.R. also mentions that the ECW Press Conference regarding December To Dismember was held in Albany, Georgia...to which Lawler had to correct him by saying that it took place in Augusta.

As "The King" enters the ring to face Masters, Ross says "Jerry Lawler, my friend, he stood up for me, stood up for me". That's not a typo, he says it twice. Just weird. During the match, Lawler clocks Masters with three left hooks and follows up with a right handed punch that sends The Masterpiece to the mat. "Lawler with a right hand, make it three right hands", says ol' Jim. Nuff said. I wish him the best, I really hope he's okay.

MICHAEL RICHARDS IS LOSING IT?

By now, we all know that the man who played Cosmo Kramer on "Seinfeld" is a racist fuck. I had no idea that WWE would ever spoof the incident that proved it. Cryme Tyme, slowly becoming one of my favourites, kicks some Richards impersonator's ass...proving (I guess) that WWE isn't so racist after all. Very interesting comment to be making considering the questionable way in which Cryme Tyme was introduced to WWE fans.

I guess I'll back that. I just hope to see more impressive performances from Cryme Tyme in the ring before I can truly be down. Nowhuhimsayin'?

JOHN CENA IS LOSING IT.

Notice how John Cena is not even the star of the show anymore? One tiny little segment with Umaga. No big promo, no match. The Hardy Boyz getting a shot at the tag-titles main-evented the evening...as they should have. Maybe we're about to witness the end of the Cena championship era. Perhaps, Umaga will finally put an end to the drudgery that is John Cena's work rate. Then again, maybe I'm just losing it.

On a happier note, many O-sters have found themselves 'losing it' this past week in the WWE Fantasy game. Um...who's "Better Than Dan-e-o"? Check out Tha "O" League standings after week 7:

1 The Smashin' Masters - 1909 pts

May I say that Methods Of Mayhem was a late entry into the season, thus my lowly standings. Pretty good RAW, but yeah I think JR is really losing it as evidenced from SS. Hey at least no Cena match. I think Cryme Tyme is gonna be a permanent fixture on my fantasy roster. They're on every damn time. Yo Yo.......Yo

Not even you can seriously believe that Umaga would be a better champion than Cena. Zero charisma, zero mic skills, zero ability to put togehter a good match, and has yet to beat a credible opponent without some kind of assistance, be it a simple distraction or physical interference (unless I'm just not recalling the first meeting between him and Kane).

Well

Umaga has beaten Triple H, HBK, Cena, Kane .... everyone that's been put in front of him about as clean as a heel can win.

He has charisma in the ring... he is a compelling character.

He doesn't have mic skills? what are you basing that on? LOL... anyways, it doesn't matter - that's Armando's job.

Jamal CAN wrestle... and he can deliver different performances for different occassions....

A big guy that can actually work.

I'm surprised to say it, but I'd actually support an Umaga title run... BUT it has to happen now while he's hot... not at Wrestlemania or next Summerslam when he's lost steam.

I was really expecting a Beth Pheonix return last night... to confront Mickie... its coming...without trish mickie has lost character steam... and i love victoria though... but the head shivvering thing is not necessary...

TheEndustry is movin up boys... i still think a weekly fantasy column would be nice

For the record, I don't actually believe that Umaga will become WWE Champion. It would be a surprise to me if he did. But I'd love just about anyone taking the strap from Cena.

I'm thinkin about challenging Little Johnny for his spinner...

I'll make one promise... I'll no-sell the F-U right before I DDT him through 3 tables...

Wow you guys seem pretty quick to trade one champion who was pushed too hard for another. WWE has managed to pick the one guy who's paid even less dues than Cena to challenge for the belt. What, Benoit gets one crack at it every 20 years? Jeff Hardy will be in midcard land until he's 45. Show, RVD, Edge, and Hardy have all been Heat bound before getting their hands on gold... and WWE seems content to main event a guy who's been here all of 5 months, who's finisher is a THUMB TO THE NECK! For crying out loud!

John Cena should be working into the title picture just about now... and Umaga should be a freakshow wrestler. The WWE saw Samoa Joe's popularity and assumed the wrestling fan had an insatiable hunger for Fat Samoans who never lose, and now folks are buying the hype!

Wait a sec...

Jamal has paid more dues in the indies than Cena has in his entire career....

Let's get facts straight here...

Did Cena not pay any dues as Prototype?

I've felt that 'good ole' JR has been losing it for years. I can't remember how many Jericho Benoit matches he flubbed his way through, somebody get the man a bigger moniter!
Umaga sucks, hey maybe the next 'Monster Heel' can sell the IRON CLAW! There's a finisher for ya!
