Raw's Family Reunion: O's and NO's

Long time O-sters will know that this is not my first O's and NO's column.

To our new family members, the "NO" is simply the opposite of the "O"...pretty self-explanatory right?

Monday Night Raw's Family Reunion special was overall, a fairly entertaining show, with a few O's and NO's to go around.

Here was my take...

O:
Shawn Michaels' off-the-top-rope elbow to Trevor Murdoch through the table on the outside of the ring. It's amazing that HBK is still able to compete at the level that he does. Usually reliable for at least an "O" or two in big matches, Michaels didn't disappoint in the street fight last night. Kudos to Murdoch for taking the major bump as well. It's just sad that the team of Cade and Murdoch is getting squashed by DX so often. Speaking of which...

NO:
DX burying....everybody! The 'non-existing' tag-team division on "Raw", Chris Masters, the Spirit Squad...they've all been buried by DX in recent weeks and last night on "Raw" was no different. Perhaps, DX was shooting on the truly depleted concept of the tag-team division on "Raw" but it certainly doesn't help that they are able to destroy every "team" that there is - and all at the same time. Joking about it last night during their "apology" only hurts these teams further.

O:
JBL's commentary. I don't know if Big Daddy's incessant praising of this guy is just rubbing off on me or what...but Layfield's announcing skills are truly entertaining me. I mentioned in my "'O' Mercy!" column that he gives credit where credit is due and truly highlights the attributes of the in-ring talent appropriately...but he is also hilarious.

Line of the night takes place when Jim Ross and JBL are jokingly jarring at each other during the Shelton Benjamin and Chris Benoit match. JR plugs his barbeque sauce. JBL plugs his Fox news show. Michael Cole remarks "I have nothing to plug". JBL quips "That's what your wife said!". I died.

Another "O" for JBL comes when he and Tazz are going at it disputing their respective career accomplishments as both wrestlers and commentators. JBL exclaims that "it's better to be a has-been than a never-was".

Tazz replies "I quit wrestling because I wasn't tall enough. You're very tall so that helps you here".

JBL: "Hell of a comeback, next time, try 'O yeah?'". I died twice.

NO:
Now, I know I said I'd do my best to limit the amount of ragging on John Cena I do, but the guy leaves me no choice. Does anyone laugh at this guy's attempts at comedy? Every last one of his "jokes" fall flat. They are both predictable and often poorly timed ("You talkin' about Hulk Hogan in Mr. Nanny?" - while King Booker was speaking about "The greatest movie of all time...Ready To Rumble!" - now that's funny. You could tell Booker wanted to laugh as he said this.)

O:
Kristal. Three words: Un Be Leivable!

NO:
Mitch's "I suck" promo. How much are they trying to bury the Spirit Squad anyway?

O:
The appearance of Money Inc. Yeah, it was cool to see Piper. But Ted DiBiase AND Irwyn R. Shyster?! Hype! I was thinking as I watched SmackDown! last week that no one cared to mention that both Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat and Mike Rotundo were both in the ring at the same time trying to separate the SD! main-eventers during a scrum.

Seeing Rotundo reprise the IRS character for a surprise cameo on "Raw" had me mark out. Gotta love Money Inc.'s entrance music: "Money, money, money, money, moneeeeyyy!"

NO:
John Cena. Oops, sorry, did I mention him already? My bad.

Nope wait. He's bad.

Truly. Truly bad.

O:
The alliance made between Edge and Randy Orton. Now, I'm no Orton mark. But I love this concept. Often, we see tag-teams breaking up. How often do we see them being created in front of our eyes? More importantly than the advent of this union is the reasoning behind it. It makes perfect sense for SOMEONE to want to stop DX...especially someone who has suffered at the hands of HBK and HHH as much as Edge and Orton have. I look forward to see where they go with this new team.

Amazing how two fine athletes like DiBiase and Rotundo are now built like Dusty Rhodes.

Getting old is sad

I was just amazed that they could fit the arch-heeldom of Ric Flair, Money Inc, and Rowdy Roddy Piper in the ring all at the same time without SOMEBODY being betrayed! I marked more than a busted sharpy.
