In all the chaos of Mike Bucci, Nick Dinsmore and Cryme Tyme being released - news of CM Punk finally capturing the ECW Title at the TV tapings on Saturday was overlooked. Cincinnati Ohio witnessed Punk win his first championship in the WWE. The spoiler has already been reported on WWE.com in hopes of spiking the rating for ECW on Sci Fi this Tuesday.
Congratulations to the former TNA / ROH star - but am I the only one who thinks this is way too late? Failing to capture the strap on successive Pay-Per-Views likely hurt his character in the eyes of most WWE fans who don't normally tune into the ECW program.
The truth is, John Morrison was one of many superstars listed in the Signature Pharmacy debacle and has been suspended for thirty days. RVD set the precedent here.
If you've got gold and get caught with drugs you gotta drop it.
Who knows what the booking department had in store for this feud or what they would have done with Morrison long term.

No, it's not too late.
Samoa Joe should be dead and buried if it's ever too late to win a championship. Joe is almost as hot as ever with the audience, and he's being misused like a motherfucker down TNA way.
C.M. Punk, much to the chagrin of the office, is the most over guy in ECW, and probably one of the most over in the company to tell the truth. Sure he lost it on back to back PPV's, but he's a babyface, and he lost it to a heel, so in the eyes of the marks, he outsmarted John Morrison's cheating ways.
In the eyes of the smarks, the office had to bite the bullet and put the belt on the guy that deserved it anyway, because the present champion couldn't keep his nose clean. I bet Punk will get lots of praise due to his straightedgedness now, except of course, from those who really should give it to him.
Punk is ECW champ and Hardy is is the IC champ.

I agree that this was long overdue. they made him lose like 3 ppvs in a row and not win the title but have him win on live TV? BS! Everyone knows he should of won at Summerslam, because it made total sense. Because they didnt put the title on Punk @ SS, and then 4 days later comes the internet drugs thing, and boom, WWE has fucked itself, by trying to make punk look bad or whatever it is they were trying to do? i have no idea, but he should of won at SS.

Does no one remember when programs would run for months until finally the face would come through? Hell, he lost the last match because of cheating. C.M. Punk is a guy we should all respect and relate to. For fucks sake he worked and worked, got hurt and worked some more. He's been held down and pushed to no end. He's made his name in the northeast, the midwest, the west, the southest, the southwest, Japan and all over the world.
He was a golden boy, then an outcast. The WWE did more to hold down Phil Brooks than we'll ever probably know, but like and unlike John Cena the man will be a champion. He sells merch, tickets and moves. Cena sells merch, tickets and no sells moves. C.M. Punk is a world class worker, and John Cena is a world class merch pusher.
C.M. Punk may have a straight edge gimmick and you may not like it, but guess what, he's a better heel than he is face, and he'll use that to his advantage in the near future, because unlike Cena the WWE will turn him heel to attempt to bury him, but trust me as someone whose seen Punk and Punk tapes for years, Punk as a heel is sooo much more money than Punk as a face.
If someone with Thundercats and Cocacola tattoos hooked on some dope steps to C.M. Punk it will make a great storyline, and oh yeah, just so you know, wrestling is a work.
