Damn it's good to be back, in the states and on Tha O Show. I missed last week's "SmackDown!" but I caught this week's of course (TV channels where they speak English was a plus in Mexico) and man do I have a lot to cover. So without any more rambling on my part, it's "Friday Night Fallout"!On paper this week's edition of "SmackDown!" should have been fan-damn-tastic, but instead it was fan...friendly-ish. We had a tag team championship match, and a championship competition, what the hell happened to the word tournament?
Beats me, because honestly, championship competition sounds about as gay as Kip James tights look. Problem is, he's wearing those for heat, and the WWE is dead serious. Without the stupid name this looked good on paper, for a second anyway.
Kane VS. Finlay, a match I could watch a few times actually had me thinking, well at least it'll be one of these guys, and then Long said "The Animal" Batista and the returning Rey Mysterio. Ok, two things, not only did Rey steal MY return gimmick, but dammit, I also realized that Fronte was right. Dig through Tha O Show archives and you will hear Fronte say that "Rey Mysterio will come back at The Great American Bash (I think) and defeat Khali for the World Heavyweight Championship." Dammit Frank, you're good. You missed the PPV, but that's ok.
I will admit that Rey and Batista in any fashion together is a draw for the marks, and for some reason Batista puts forth a passable match with Mysterio, but I really, really didn't want to see Rey back in the main event spot, and I definitely didn't want to see him win that belt again. He needs a manager to hold it for him, it's too big. Adversely, it looks like a child-size replica on Khali's shoulder. Go figure!
Kane VS. Finlay proved to be mildly entertaining with some nice spots, and low dropkicks. It played up some comedy with the Hornswoggle replacing the shillelagh bit, and even the spot where Kane pulled out one of Finlay's old moves. You know, where the wrestler grabs the second rope and his opponent pulls him out and the guy busts his ass, yeah, that one. The finish left a little to be desired, but hey, it's SmackDown! what did you expect.
Speaking of the finish leaving something to be desired, Rey wins his first championship competition, God what a gay ass name, match by DQ? Come on, somebody write something better. If you want me or a mark to believe this midget is going to overcome the odds in John Cena like fashion, don't make me stomach him winning by DQ. It's a sad state of affairs when you see this and you IMMEDIATELY know that Rey will be the #1 contender and most likely the next World Champion on "SmackDown!"
Ladies and gentleman, boys and girls children of all ages, WWE "SmackDown!" proudly brings to you, it's NEW WWE Tag Team Champions of the World, The Common Man Matt Hardy, Half Man, Half Amazing, MVP, The, wait, What the Fuck?! I know hardly anybody that's a regular on this site is a fan of the non tag team, tag team champions, but this time, if it's all you got, you just have to do it. Plus what way to get over that they're both good, but MVP is a legit heel because he has to screw his own partner to win it. While I know it's been done at least 200 times, it elevates the United States Championship and it's feud a little higher.
Since their squashes at the hands of Batista Deuce and Domino have collected dust, but, as Warrant once said, "looks so good, bring a tear to your eye," Cherry is anything but stale. While I thought the MVP/Cherry spot was a little weird, I remember once again that Michael Hayes has alot to do with "SmackDown!" I don't think we've seen the last of D&D by any means, but I do think that Cherry will be leaving their side soon. Either that or the crack writing staff of "SmackDown!" just forgot she did the same angle tonight with MVP that she did with Ric Flair and Batista a few weeks ago.
So the new WWE Tag Team Champions are the guys who we've been waiting to see wrestle for the WWE United States Championship for a little over a month now. While it could potentially be a good move, it could also just as easily kill the interest in what IS the best feud on "SmackDown!", and the second best in the WWE right now. If they drag it out with MVP and Hardy defending the tag titles, much like Cena and Michaels, people will get irritated, then annoyed, and finally FED the hell up, yes that pun was intended. If they drop the tag titles next week or the week after to say, the Dalton's, then I'd understand.
It would put over the Daltons and it would further the feud between Mr. 305 and the Common Man. This feud is at a boiling point right now, and it could either catch fire, or boil over and just leave a wet spot where the fire could have been. I mean think about it, what other feud has involved names like Evander Hollifield and Stone Cold Steve Austin lately?None, if WWE drops the ball on this one, fuck em! A title change should happen soon, and not only do I mean tag team titles, I mean United States gold too. I said before that MVP could be ready for the World Championship, but with Max Mini getting ready to take it, I doubt any new blood will ascend, so having Matt and MVP trade off the belt keeps the feud going and elevates the belt. Wait, did I say Max Mini? I meant Rey Mysterio, you guys forgive me though, right?
I mentioned the Daltons earlier for good reason, if I have to see Little Terry Gordie and that goofy looking fake fucking Kane on TV two more times without a match I will not mention them again until they take the tag team championships, and lets hope for their sake they don't take the road Cryme Tyme took, because then, those bitches would be waiting a long, LONG ass time. "SmackDown!" has no tag team scene.
At one point "SmackDown!" was viewed as the show that would re-put over tag team wrestling, and now, their tag team championships are tied up in a singles feud, and they have at least 3 legit tag teams, and a possibility of a Scottish-canadian one coming their way, and a foundation that's close to the Hart's of many as well. But you know what? Two of the 3 current teams haven't been seen in action in a while, and if they've been seen it's forgotten that quickly, and the other does ignorant vignette's week in and week out.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, one set of tag team championships is plenty, if not too much. Tag Team wrestling is great, but in today's world it gets lost in the shuffle quite easily, and without the Hardyz, Dudleyz and E&C people just don't have the give a damn they used to about it. While I like Deuce & Domino, they aren't enough. I also don't see Jesse and Fuckstus, or the Major Brothers elevating to the level of any of the three aforementioned teams. So why not have one set of belts, traveling champions, and legit competition on both "Raw" and "SmackDown!"? Because it would make some sense, and that's exactly why it WILL NOT happen.
As I said before I missed last weeks show, and haven't been reading any results so I don't know what happened, and frankly the break was pretty well needed. Other than the 10-15 minutes of Matt Hardy/MVP I've been treated two, I have one hour and forty-five minutes of dead air to watch. The only thing that could hurt "SmackDown!" worse than Michael Hayes is replacing JBL and Michael Cole with Don West and Mike Tenay. Don't get me wrong, I love "SmackDown!" and I love wrestling, but the booking has had me scratching my head lately. As when John Cena pinned Orton at SummerSlam, and Rey Mysterio pinned Finlay to become new #1 contender this week, I can only pose a question, "where do we go from here?"
Well O-sters that's about all for this week, with the exception of this, since The Notorious TID has made his way back into the land of O, I will no longer be Tha Notorious D.J.B, I'm back once again to just D.J.B, and TID, I'm glad your back and I'm glad you're healing, and I'm really glad I'm no longer Notorious. And until next time, Ooooooooooooooooooo
Quick results if you missed it:
All matches marked with * are in the #1 contenders tournament
*Finlay def. Kane
Matt Hardy and US Champ MVP d. Deuce & Domino w/Cherry to become new WWE Tag Team Champions
*Rey Mysterio def. Batista via DQ
