Benoit's Brain Had Massive Damage

At a news conference today it was revealved that the brain of Chris Benoit showed significant damage from both repeat concussions and sub-concussive blows. Dr. Julian Bailes of the Department Neurosurgery at West Virginia University and Dr. Robert Cantu, the Chief of Neurosurgery Service at Emerson Hospital concluded that level of damage was enough to explain the suicide and homicides.

The doctors noted his level of damage would lead to cognitive impairment, major depression and heightened aggression. The doctors clarified that there is no medical evidence that would support long-term steroid use causes the damage to the brain Chris Benoit had.

Benoit had the reputation of being the only man in WWE who would take unprotected chair shots to the back of the head. Chris Nowinski, former "Tough Enough" contestant, who has become a spokesperson for mental health in sport has said that undiagnosed concussions cause to long-term side-effects such as depression and paranoia. Nowinski was one of the supporters to have Benoit's brain examined.

The tests were conducted with the permission of Michael Benoit, Chris' father who believes his son perpetrated these murders out of mental illness and not premeditated anger.

I saw this news on dirtsheets everywhere, but refused to read it, because I didn't want some jack off computer nerds opinion instead of the real results.

I saw that you wrote this Frank so I read it. Now I'm not only sickened by the hastiness from US Congress to begin ruining the lives of many because steroid use, and other "cosmetic" drugs, I'm sickened that this news will only be reported on by select few.

Don't expect Nancy disGrace to cover it too in depth, because that would mean she was wrong. The US Congress will most likely look over this, and come down harder now that they, yet again, have been proven wrong.

I take no satisfaction from this, but it does in a way relieve some of the pain that still lingered. At least now I know that he wasn't a cold and calculating murderer, he was man under mental diress, but that's where I will stop, as not to make opinions on the matter.

So with this new evidence coming to light, will this rescue Benoit's tarnished career and name or is it not enough?

I hope wrestlers, especially hardcore and even backyarders will learn not to take chair shots to the head now or limited them to very few.
I to now hope this will save Benoit's legacy. I think though more on this study and the affects of hard blows to the head and brain has to be provided to the masses.

We live in a time when to,
"Report tragic information to the public~before the facts are in..."
is a common occurrance and this is especially true of any matter where a celebrity is concerned.
Case in point~Chris Benoit...

How many media/people were ready to point the finger at drugs (steriods)for the answers???
Does the thought, "Remember, when you point your finger at someone for something~there are three fingers that point back at you..."

I realize that it is easier for people to believe things when they are repeated over & over...

If something seems possible or even slightly more likely because...

If we've been told,
"This is what could happen"

If we've been trained to be~LIE~ve we then "LIVE" with conviction in a "LIE" must "BE"...

It's time we take a stand on truth. Reporters opinions and thoughts or ideas of possibilities of what "might have" happened need to be put into the proper place...
Like "The Fiction News Channel." Only it hasn't been created~yet because it sounds too oxy-moronic, right?

The brain & body are still very much a mystery to the average person~even today~and even with all the things that have been discovered in the last century...

Think about it.

The brain like the whole body is a sensitive thing, some in wrestling think they are indestructible and can take a hammering again and again so they put themselves in harm's way with no reason to. Better research needs to be done on this, looked further into, shouldn't get hit in the head repeatedly over time like that, safety of the wrestler should come first, ones who do that should be told that.

Last night they covered this story on Nightline and actually did a great job sticking to the facts, instead of running down the business. Chris Nowinski is a class act all the way. He didn't go all sour grapes unlike other former performers (Fuck You Mero!) and works toward furthering awareness and research of sport related head injuries. It's good to see someone giving back and not ripping down for a change.
